  • Four polymorphic allozymes were used for genetic analysis of overwintering populations of field diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (Linne). Different allele frequencies were found among three local populations of Andong, Youngchon, and Yangsan in all loci. Two allozyme loci (acid phosphatase and phosphoglucomutase) showed significant deviation from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium in allele frequencies among these populations. Estimated Nei's genetic distance varied from 0.0151 between Yangsan and Youngchon to 0.0877 between Andong and Youngchon. Compared with the previous genetic distances in this moth, a little higher genetic differentiation among these overwintering populations suggests that there would be a specific genetic bottleneck in each local population during overwintering period.

  • This empirical study aims to find the factors to affect purchasing dairy products between the expert group and consumer group and also find the difference between the groups and the reasons, using AHP. Based on the results of the previous studies, four main factors were selected and they are products, marketing, quality, and social factors. Then, we surveyed the groups of consumers and experts, conducted AHP analysis, and compared the gaps between the groups. The factor of marketing, especially the sub-factor of brand, was found out the most biggest difference, followed by the sub-factor of hygiene in the factor of quality. The results of this study can contribute to the dairy industry to see the difference between the expert and consumer groups' choices.

  • The purpose of this paper is to provide basic data for development of Korean teaching programs for immigrant women from multicultural families through the acoustic analysis of their prosodic phrasing and intonation pattern. The results showed that immigrant women showed some differences in most of the prosodic characteristics from a Korean women's group: Immigrant women realized the first word of a sentence in an intonational phrase while Korean women did in an accentual phrase. They also haven't yet correctly learned the tone type of the first of an accentual phrase which differs depending on the type of its first segment yet. As a result, they showed many diverse intonation patterns compared to Korean women. Furthermore, the immigrant women's groups showed some differences between them in a few prosodic characteristics. Philippine women, whose residence duration in Korea is relatively longer than that of Vietnamese women, were more similar to Korean women: Vietnamese women read a sentence with a larger number of intonational phrases than Philippine women did. And they realized sentence-final boundary tone of a yes-no question not only in 'H%' but also in 'HL%' while, like Korean women, Philippine women did only in 'H%'.

  • The purpose of this experimental study was to examine the effects of attitude similarity and ingroup/outgroup membership on interpersonal attraction. 2(Attitude similarity: Similar/Dissimilar) × 2(Group membership: Ingroup/Outgroup) between-subject design was used. The results revealed the significant main effect of attitude similarity. That is, participants preferred a person who had similar attitude with him/herself compared to the person who had dissimilar attitude. Furthermore, the significant 2-way interaction effect revealed that attitude similarity produced greater attraction for ingroup than for outgroup members and attitude dissimilarity produced stronger repulsion effects for ingroup than for outgroup members. These results could contribute to workplaces and organizations by suggesting that considering attitude similarity between team members could be a way to improve organizational productivity. The necessity for expanding these results to research on work-team performance and improvement of organizational productivity was discussed.

  • This study examines perceived homophily by the degree of self disclosure among SNS users. In this research, there were three different groups in terms of the degree of self disclosure among SNS users such as strong, medium and weak self disclosure groups The major results are as follows: Firstly, the higher the degree of self disclosure, the more social network service use. In addition, the higher the degree of self disclosure, the smaller the degree of online activity including blog and mini web page. Secondly, the higher the degree of self disclosure, the higher the degree of socio-demographic homophily. It can be argued that the strong group had much more mean scores than that of medium and weak groups in terms of regions, gender, age and vocation except nationality. Also, the higher the degree of self disclosure, the higher the degree of shared homophily except of political opinion homophily.

  • Although mathematically gifted students have potential and creative productivity, they might not manifest group level creative synergy. To manifest group creativity among them, the manifestation process should be facilitated and the process losses should be minimized. The purpose of this study is looking for the method to facilitate the manifestation process of group creativity and minimize the process losses of it. To do this, a case study method was adopted. The products and process losses of the manifestation process of group creativity was analysed. In conclusion, the processes and products of group creativity were concretized and the process losses were analysed by social/motivational and cognitive factors. In addition, the justification and agreement were necessary for the manifestation process of group creativity among mathematically gifted students.

  • The purpose of this study is two-fold: 1) to identify different adolescent smoking trajectories in Korea; and 2) to examine predictors of those smoking trajectories within a social developmental frame. Data were from the Korea Youth Panel Survey(KYPS), a longitudinal study of 3,449 youths followed since 2003. Using semi-parametric group-based modeling, four smoking trajectories were identified: non initiators, late onsetters, experimenters, and escalators. Multinomial logistic regressions were then used to identify risk and protective factors that distinguish the trajectory groups from one another. Among non smokers at age 13, late onsetters were distinguished from non initiators by a variety of factors in every ecological domain. Among youths who already smoked at age 13, escalators who increased their smoking were distinguished from experimenters who almost desisted from smoking by age 17 by self-esteem and academic achievement. Finally, implications for youth welfare practice from this study were discussed.
