  • Although seaman has made a contribution marine transportation and the marine products industry, the current status of preventing occupational disease by monitoring health danger factors is very unsatisfied. Therefore, a monitoring system regarding health condition and disease occurrence of seaman is required. In this paper, we propose a real-time sailor management system based on uniqutious healthcare, which collects various organic signals and analyzes their relation in order to confirm blood pressure, temperature and pulsation of seaman. The proposed system enables a medical doctor to manage the diseases anywhere at any time even via a PC and PDA.

  • An important scientific objective of longitudinal studies involves tracking the probability of a subject having certain health condition over the course of the study. Proper definitions and estimates of disease risk tracking have important implications in the design and analysis of long-term biomedical studies and in developing guidelines for disease prevention and intervention. We study in this paper a class of rank-tracking probabilities to describe a subject's conditional probabilities of having certain health outcomes at two different time points. Linear mixed effects models are considered to estimate the tracking probabilities and their ratios of interest. We apply our methods to an epidemiological study of childhood cardiovascular risk factors.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the differences in the level of disease condition and ADL by self-efficacy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. The subjects of the study consisted of eighty-four outpatients with rheumatoid arthritis at a university hospital in Taegu between July 20, 1999 and August 25, 1999. The instruments used in this study were the self-efficacy developed by Lorig et al. (1989), the pain scale developed by Lee and Song(1987), the erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR), the pain joint count to measure disease condition scale, and the ADL scale developed by Katz et al. (1970) and Barthel(1973). Analysis of data was done by use of descriptive statistics: Pearson Correlation, Chi-square test, t-test, ANOVA and Scheffe, with the SPSS program. The major findings can be summarized as follows: 1. The first hypothesis, "There will be differences in the level of disease condition by self-efficacy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis" was partially supported. 1-1. "There will be differences in the level of pain by self-efficacy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis" was supported(F=3.422, p=.037). 1-2. "There will be differences in the level of ESR by self-efficacy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis" was the Disease Condition and supported (F=3.314, p=.041). 1-3. "There will be differences in the level of pain joints count by self-efficacy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis" was rejected(F=2.602, p=.080). 2. The second hypothesis, "There will be differences in the level of ADL by self-efficacy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis" was supported(F=7.067, p=.001). With the above results, it can be concluded that the higher level of self-efficacy contributed to the better level of disease condition and ADL in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Therefore, by providing nursing intervention to promote the level of self-efficacy of rheumatoid arthritis patients with low self-efficacy, disease condition and ADL would be much better.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine radiologists' awareness and performance of hospital infection control, providing basic information needed to improve and educate how to control hospital infection. The subjects' awareness and performance of hospital infection control were respectively 141.05 and 138.15 points in average score on a 150-point scale. In all sub-areas of the control, the higher the awareness was, the higher the performance was, but the latter was relatively lower than the former. Factors that were having statistically significant effects on that awareness included the necessity of infection control education, participation or non-participation in infection prevention education and recognition or non-recognition of patients' disease state. And factors that were having statistically significant influences on that performance included participation or non-participation in infection prevention education, recognition or non-recognition of patients' disease state and the foresaid awareness itself.

  • Disease of patient who visited the hospital can cause different symptoms of the disease, depending on the environment and lifestyle. Recent medical services offered in patients has changed in the environment that can be selected for treatment by analyzing the patient according to the disease symptoms. In this paper, we propose an efficient method to manage disease control because the treatment method may change at any patients suffering from the disease according to the patient conditions by grouping the different treatments to patients for disease information. The proposed scheme has a feature that can be ingested by the patient big disease information, as well as to improve the treatment efficiency of the medical treatment the increase patient satisfaction. The proposed sheme can handle big data by clustering of disease information for patients suffering from diseases such as patient consent small groups. In addition, the proposed scheme has the advantage that can be conveniently accessed via a particular keyword, the treatment method according to patient disease information. The experimental results, the proposed method has been improved by 23% in terms of efficiency compared to conventional techniques, disease management time is gained 11.3% improved results. Medical service user satisfaction seen from the survey is to obtain a high 31.5% results.

  • This study was performed to determine the complaint rates of musculoskeletal symptoms and its association with related factors among manufacturing workers. The self-administered questionnaires were given to 856 male with 50 or less employees in manufacturing industries. As a results, complaint rates of work-related musculoskeletal symptoms of the body sites was 61.2% for shoulders, 55.4% for low back, 55.3% for neck, 38.6%, for legs/feet, 32.2% for hands/wrists/fingers and 26.9% for arms/elbows. In logistic regression analysis of significant factors related with musculoskeletal symptoms of body sites, neck was related with marital status, subjective health status, smoking, drinking coffee and occupational stress, shoulders was related with job tenure, shift work, visiting out-patient department and occupational stress, arms/elbows was related with sleeping time, experience of sick absence and occupational stress, hands/wrists/fingers was related with age, smoking, drinking coffee, working hour, job position, job tenure, visiting out-patient department and occupational stress, low back was related with educational level, BMI, sleeping time, job position, job tenure, visiting out-patient department and occupational stress and legs/feet was related with marital status, job position, job tenure, history of hospitalization and occupational stress.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine which factors determine fall experience among Korean elderly. To achieve this purpose, it uses the Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging(KLoSA), wave 1 and 2. Participants aged 65 from wave 1 were selected. From wave 2, a dependent variable was selected and it was fall experiences since the first interview in 2006. Other than this variable, all independent variables were selected from wave 1. In analyses, x2 or t-test were conducted to examine whether independent variables significantly differ between falls and no falls. Then, since a dependent variable consisted of two categories-falls or no falls, multiple logistic regressions were run. Female, using hearing aid, having two diseases, having three or more diseases, depression, and exercise 5 times/a week or more elevated the odds ratios of fall experience. compared to their reference categories. Particularly, if Korean elderly had three or more diseases or depression, their likelihood of fall experience would have about 2 times higher than their reference categories. In conclusion, health practitioners should make the elderly be recognized how much these risk factors are important to falls. Also, Korean government should support Korean elderly having these risk factors to prevent them from falling.

  • In livestock, diagnosis of disease is found on body temperature variation like a human. In case of cattle, body temperature variation can estimate disease that milk fever, toxication, diarrhea, dyspepsia, chronic enteritis, influenza, pneumonia, anthrax. So we are suggested the temperature measurement system for livestock. This system will be useful to a stock farmer and alternative that a worker.
