  • This paper was written for the purpose of using as the theoretical basic data of judgment in the situation that there is a growing demand for intelligent design theory to be taught in public schools along with evolution theory. In order to verify the possibility that intelligent design theory, which has little empirical evidence unlike evolutionary theory, could be a scientific theory, what intelligence is and whether the trace of intelligence is actually found in nature was confirmed through literature. If intelligent elements, which are traces of intelligence in nature, are discovered empirically in nature, then intelligent design theory can be recognized as a scientific theory and can also be taught in public schools. The identity and traces of intelligence were found in relevant literature and the traces are found not only in various artificial products derived from human beings such as thinking, knowledge, and civilization, but also in all phenomena of nature. Based on these results, this paper provides a discussion on how the evolutionary theory and intelligent design theory should be handled in the field of school education, as well as how to resolve the conflicts between evolutionary theory and intelligent design theory.

  • This study explores the evolution of technical innovation over time. It focuses on sectors of the information technology because this industry can be referred to as one of the most dynamic industries of all times. Following evolutionary theorists, we argue that technological change is gradual and that superior firms and technologies are reward by the' selection' environment. In the initial phase of the industry life cycle, technological change is expected to be radical and uncertainty is high. Over time a product or technology is likely to arise which stands out above all other products or technologies. These so-called 'basic designs' serve as sorts of 'technological guideposts' for further developments in the technology. Once a basic design established, technological progress tends to follow consistent paths or trajectories. The cumulative character of technological progress facilitates a rapid expansion of the boundaries of the technology until the natural limits of the technology are approached and technological progress slows down. Following ecological theories, supply-side developments in the industry are described on the basis of five different organizational types. On the basis of this pattern of market and technological evolution we came up with seven basic propositions.

  • This paper debates on two different theoretical positions in explaining corporate adaptation. Until the 1980s, a restructuring perspective had dominated in explaining corporate success and adaptation. However, this perspective pays little attention to how firms adapt to environmental change and why some firms adapt successfully, while some others fail to adapt. Thus a restructuring perspective does not give insights into a context-specific explanation of corporate learning and adaptation. More recently, especially since the 1990s, academic focus on corporate adaptation and evolution has shifted towards exploring the nature of learning that leads to the dynamic competitiveness. A learning perspective emphasizes the influence of knowledge, learning and competence on corporate evolution. However, it reveals that this view is also less appropriate for explaining corporate adaptation in radical shifts in environment. In this context, the evolutionary theories of the firm need to seek to maintain a balance between two theoretical positions in order to understand more effectively the dynamic evolution and adaptation of the firm. This paper shows that the dynamics of corporate adaptation and evolution are an outcome of the mixture of perpetual processes of restructuring and learning, both continuous and discontinuous.

  • This paper aims to introduce paradigm shifts in the development of economic geography and to explore theoretical background and themes of the New Economic Geography discussed recently. Since the 1990s the New Economic Geography has been discussed actively in the field of economics with including the concept of space to the economic theory. The New Economic Geography has also been actively discussed in the field of economic geography with exploring new methodology and theoretical framework based on institutional and evolutionary approaches following a broad trend of "cultural turn". Diverse themes such as innovation, environment, services, feminist, labor market, etc. has been studied along the perspectives of the New Economic Geography in the field of economic geography. It is expected that new theories and methodologies for understanding and analyzing new economic spaces can be established through active interactions between economic geographers and other social scientists such as regional science, economics, sociology, etc.

  • This study examined high school students' acceptance of evolutionary theory, evolutionary knowledge, and epistemological belief. The Christian and non-Christian students' acceptance of evolutionary theory and evolution content knowledge were compared in relation to their 'scientific epistemological views' (domain-specific) and 'evolution in relation to nature of science' (context-specific). The Christian students' evolutionary knowledge was most predicted by the theory-laden exploration of science, while the non-Christian students' scores on evolutionary knowledge were most predicted by the scientific epistemological views. In addition, the Christian students' scores on scientific epistemological views and evolution in relation to evolution were not significantly related to each other, while the non-Christian students' scores on both variables were significantly related. Furthermore, 'evolution in relation to nature of science' is the strongest predictor of both Christian and non-Christian students' acceptance of evolution.

  • Interest in the origin of the universe and man has historically been one of the central themes of human inquiry. The question of origin is not just a matter of intellectual curiosity, but a matter of human identity and an important matter of human destiny. The traditional model presented in relation to the origin of man is largely the Christian creationism that all things originated from the Creator, the evolutionary theory that everything happened by chance and evolved from lower to higher animals, and the agnosticism that we cannot know anything about the origin. This study deals with the theory of theistic evolution, a combination of creationism and evolutionism. It is argued that the theory of the evolutionary origin was not an immediate creation, although all things originated from God, but through creation through a long evolutionary process. The theory of theistic evolution was proposed by combining two conflicting theories of origin in a Christian way, which has several essential problems, but this study pointed out two. First, the God of the Bible is reduced to the image of being confined to the laws of nature, not the Almighty Creator. Second, by interpreting the events of the Bible symbolically, it results in rejection of historicity. Therefore, it is more rational to choose either evolutionism or creationism rather than the theory of theistic evolution.

  • This paper aims to provide an evolutionary theory of firm existence and boundaries. We explicitly discuss about the cause of firm existence from the viewpoint of evolutionary economics, combine functionalistic and process-oriented explanation of firm evolution, and propose industry-level theory of firm boundaries. Vertical and horizontal firm boundaries are explained in the same frame.

  • The purpose of the present study was to prepare baseline data for developing nursing theory and knowledge by analyzing the concept of taeoom among the nurses and by investigating the differences from the similar concept of workplace bullying. This study carried out an analysis after perusing 15 articles selected from 125 research articles retrieved according to the evolutionary method of Rodgers. The attributes of taeoom found in the present study were passage rites, painful human relationships, verbal attacks, and working relationships. There is a clear difference in concept between taeoom and workplace bullying, therefore the two concepts should be used discriminatively in nursing research. In addition, by the dynamic changes of the properties of taeoom according to the times and social circumstances, the concept of taeoom is gradually expanding and changing negatively.
