  • Water pollution status of the sewage in Jinju City was investigated to provide the basic information for the conservation of the Nam River. Physicochemical characteristics of the sewage were examined at five sites of sewage ditches, Jinyang Lake and Nam River. The results are as follows; 1) Average value of analyzed components of the sewage at five sampling sites were pH 7.1, DO 2.3 ppm, BOD 126.2 ppm, COD 123.7 ppm, turbidity 22.3 ppm, $NH_4^+-N 9.30 ppm$, alkalinity 121 ppm, hardness 121 ppm, Cl 44.3 ppm, $SO_4--$ 88.9 ppm, Pb 0.0052 ppm, Zn 0.0079 ppm, Cu 0.0124 ppm, Mn 0.0050 ppm, respectively. 2) Discharged amount of sewage in Jinju City was $38,720 m^3/day$. BOD loading of the Nam River discharged from the sewage ditches was 4.93 ton/day, and her BOD loading discharged from the Jinyang Lake was 6.94 ton/day. 3) Heavy metals content of the sewage were comparatively low, and then it would not influence the water quality of the Nam River. But $NH_4+$ contents were very high at all sewage ditches. Therefore, the sewage would not suitable for the agricultural irrigation water.

  • Hydraulic and water quality models with high reliability are necessary for the efficient management of water quality in the reservoir. The model capacity can be demonstrated by the application for the various hydrological conditions. CE-QUAL-W2 model is laterally averaged two-dimensional hydraulic and water quality model. The W2 model, which is suitable for the narrow reservoir like the Jinyang reservoir as compared with the depth and length of waterbody, has been frequently used by many researchers. Namgang watershed is expected to increase the water demand. In this study, the W2 model is validated under two different hydrological conditions; wet year (2011) and normal year (2009). Using hydrological and water quality condition for calibration, 2011, the effect of water intake increase was simulated. The simulation results showed that the increase of water intake led to increase the concentrations in total nitrogen, total phosphorus and Chlorophyll-${\alpha}$ concentration. Especially the concentration increase was appeared during the dry season in each of up to 62.53% (Total nitrogen), 39.07% (Total phosphorus) and 232.19% (Chlorophyll-${\alpha}$). The changes of chlorophyll-${\alpha}$ is similar to those of total phosphorus concentration.

  • The objective of this study was to determine the weight-length relations and condition factor (K) of Zacco platypus, along the trophic gradients from oligotrophic to eutrophic state in six reservoir ecosystems ($B_aR$, $Y_yR$, $J_yR$, $G_pR$, $Y_dR$, and $M_sR$), during 2008~2010. The species was selected as a sentinel species for the study, due to its wide distribution and wide trophic gradient. The analysis of trophic state index (TSI), based on total phosphorus (TP) and chlorophyll-a (Chl-a), indicated that reservoirs of $Y_yR$ and $B_aR$ were classified as to be in an oligotrophic state (30~40), the $J_yR$ and $G_pR$ as mesotrophic (40~50), and the $Y_dR$ and $M_sR$ as eutrophic state (50~70). Total 47 species and 26,226 individuals were sampled from 6 reservoirs and sensitive species dominated in the oligotrophic reservoirs ($Y_yR$ and $B_aR$). In the mean time, the tolerant speciesdominated the community in the mesotrophic ($J_yR$ and $G_pR$) and eutrophic ($Y_dR$ and $M_sR$) reservoirs. Regression analysis of body weight, against the total length, indicated that the regression coefficient (b value) was lower in the oligotrophic reservoir (2.77~2.79) than the mesotrophic (3.07~3.17) and eutrophic reservoirs (3.15~ 3.21). This result suggests that the population growth rate Zacco platypus reflected the trophic gradients of the reservoirs. The analysis of condition factor (K) against the total length showed positive slopes (b>3.0) in mesotrophic and eutrophic reservoirs, and a negative slope (b<3.0) in oligotrophic reservoir. The variation of the regression slope of "b" in Z. platypus was accounted for 79.7% [$b=0.012{\times}TSI(TP)+2.395$, p=0.017] by the variation of TSI (TP) and 82.2% [$b=0.013{\times}TSI(Chl-a)+2.36$, p=0.013] by the variation of TSI (Chl-a). The proportion of DELT abnormality increased as the trophic state increases in the reservoirs. The overall data suggest that the growth of the fish populations, based on the length-weight relations and condition factor, reflected the trophic state of nutrient and phytoplankton biomass of the reservoir waters. Thus, in spite of the tolerant characteristics of Z. platypus, hypertrophic states might negatively affect the health of the population.

  • The purpose of this study looks for the directions to improve the performance evaluation of cook by examining the perceptions for performance of cook by supervisors in hotel restaurant. In order for this purpose, this study focuss on two areas: (1) the significant differences of each hotel type on the perceptions of each performance evaluation item, (2) the significant differences of each kitchen type on the perceptions of each performance evaluation item in terms of two different types of hotel. To examine (1) and (2), this study uses Student t test and anova analysis. The findings from this study have both theoretical and practical implications. Implications of these findings are discussed.

  • Phytoplankton flora of Chinyang Lake and Hapchun Lake were studied. A total of 161 species(Chinyang Lake, 135 species; Hapchun Lake, 80 species) were identified. The major species of two lakes were Melosira granulate var. angustissima and M. italica. As the bloom causing species, Microcystis aeruginosa, Ceratium hirundinella, and Peridinium sp. were identified. The chlorophyll a concentration of Chinyang Lake was higher than Hapchun Lake.
