  • In recent years building floors become larger and more spacious due to the development of new design methods and high strength and light weight materials. However, such long span floor systems may provide smaller amount of damping and have a longer period so that they may be more vulnerable to the floor vertical vibration. In Korea when floors are to be checked against the floor vertical vibration, the provisions developed in foreign countries have been used. However these guidelines have been developed based on human perception, which may vary from country to country. Also, Korea have particular floor systems, such as flat plate floor system of apartment building. This study attempts to evaluate the vibration performance of the floors in typical apartment buildings. Two different floors with the area of $28 m^2$ and $32 m^2$ were investigated. The criteria provided by ATC-1(1999), AISC-11(1997), AIJ(1991) and the local criteria developed in the previous study(Han, 2003) was used to check the acceptability of the floor vertical vibration.

  • This paper deals with the natural frequency analysis and two experiments to evaluate first twisting and bending natural frequency of railway vehicle. The KS R 9228 testing method is generally performed as pseudo FRF(frequency response function) which is widely used by two accelerometers. The exciting method is utilized using the load weight(1 ton release). The modal testing is used to verify KS R 9228 testing result and the natural frequency analysis result. The first twisting and bending natural frequency should be above 10 Hz by resonance which is mostly generated between bogie and vehicle frame exciting low frequency. The first twisting and bending natural frequency of railway vehicle are successfully verified between analysis and test.

  • This study analysed response spectrum using the observed ground motion from the mine blasting and, then compared the results to the seismic design response spectra applied domestic nuclear power plants. The results showed that the resultant response spectra above 20 Hz revealed higher values than the design response spectra and those below 20 Hz revealed much lower values. These facts suggest that the analysis of response spectrum should be applied to the analysis of impacts to frequency dependent structures in addition to the analysis of peak values of ground motions.

  • Recently, the construction of infrastructures has been booming and accelerating to keep up with rapid economic growth. Construction activities and operation of transportation facilities cause unfavorable effects such as civil petitions associated with vibration-induced damages or nuisances. Accordingly, the objective of this study is to develop vibration-controlled concrete using various vibration-controlled mixtures, and also to recycle obsolete materials in part. As the first step to achieve this research, preliminary mix designs have been carried out to obtain an appropriate mix proportion above 200kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ in uniaxial compressive strength. Test specimen based on the mix proportion selected have been actuated by the impact hammer to investigate their dynamic characteristics. Vibration-controlled mixtures are foam, latex, rubber powder and plastic resin, which have been determined to reduce a vibration by and large. KS F2437 and travel time method have been used to figure out 1st natural frequency and dynamic elastic moduli. Damping ratios have been computed by adopting the polynomial curvefitting method and the geometric analysis method on the frequency response spectrum curve. of which results have been compared and analyzed hereon.

  • In this study, experimental vibration tests are performed on a real full-scale railway steel plate girder bridge, which resides in open-space environments. Using experimental modal analysis techniques, the modal parameters of the railway steel plate girder bridge yielded by the modal testing of the impact hammer are compared and investigated with the natural frequencies and mode shapes obtained by finite element analysis. This work focuses on the application of model updating techniques to measured experimental data and output-only data from an analytical vibration study that takes into account various geometric and material properties of the bridge members. A finite element model of the railway bridge structure is used to verify the modal experimental results. It is subsequently updated using the corresponding modal identification technique. The basic database is provided to evaluate damage, which can be determined based on the changes in the element properties, resulting from the process of updating the finite element model benchmark and experimental data.

  • Most of the existing rail structures have undergone a lot of aging since a considerable period of time has passed from completion. In particular, among existing railway bridges, many of the plate girder bridges are older bridges that have lived 40 to 60 years or more. Since the treadmill is directly connected to the girder without the ballast, the running load of the vehicle is directly transmitted to the bridge. Therefore, the shock and noise applied to the bridge are larger than those of the ballast bridge, and the dynamic shock and vibration are also relatively large. Therefore, it is very urgent to develop appropriate maintenance, repair and reinforcement technology for existing steel plate bridge. In this study, the authors introduced the characteristics of embedded rail (ERS) developed for improving the performance of the existing plate girder bridge and the techniques solving the vibration and noise problems. In order to evaluate the vibration and noise reduction performance of ERS, a non-ballast plate girder bridge with 5m length of sleepers installed and a plate girder bridge with ERS were fabricated. And, then, the vibration response generated under the same excitation condition was measured and analyzed. Also, the radiated noise analysis was performed using the vibration response data obtained from the experiment as the input data of the acoustic analysis model. As a result of experiments and analyses, it was confirmed that the plate girder bridge's vibration using ERS was reduced by 15.0~18.8dB and the average noise was reduced by 7.7dB(A) more than the non-ballast bridge.

  • To get vibration responses, a camshaft is modelled as an unbalanced multiple rotor bearing system. Because of complex geometry and complicated load conditions, the finite element method is used. After the finite element equation of the system is constructed, Newmark's method is used to get the vibration responses. Whirl vibration responses of a V-8 engine camshaft are estimated and compared with measured responses. After the fluctuating stresses are obtained, fatigue analysis is performed based upon the modified Goodman's equation. Stress concentration effects are considered. In the whirl vibration of camshafts, the bending effect is dominant, and the bending deformation is dependent upon the span length between the adjacent bearing journals. For high speeds, the fluctuations of excitation forces are large, and it is known that nonlinear time varying bearing coefficients should be used for analysis.

  • This paper aims to design the leaf spring of high fatigue life which guides the moving part of the horizontal linear vibrating actuator. The vertical linear vibrating actuator has been used as the vibration device for haptic and alarm function on smart phone. However, the vibrating actuator has a major cause on the limitation to make smart phone slim because of its own characteristic of vertical direction vibration. The horizontally linear vibrating actuator for smart phone slimness has been developed in recent years. One of the most significant parts of horizontal vibrating linear actuator is the guide spring which supports moving part of actuator and enables actuator to vibrate elastically. Various types of leaf springs were designed and analyzed to get the required stiffness with high fatigue life through the stress analysis using commercial structural analysis program, ANSYS. The experiments were performed with prototypes to measure vibration acceleration and life time of leaf spring.

  • A new algorithm for determining optimal accelerometer locations is proposed by using a frequency-domain Hankel matrix which is much simpler to construct than a time-domain Hankel matrix. The algorithm was examined through simulation studies by comparing the outcomes with those from other available methods. To compare and analyze the results from different methods, a dynamic analysis was carried out under seismic excitation and acceleration data were obtained at the selected optimal sensor locations. Vibrational amplitudes at the selected sensor locations were determined and those of all the other degrees of freedom were determined by using a spline function. MAC index of each method was calculated and compared to look at which method could determine more effective locations of accelerometers. The proposed frequency-domain Hankel matrix could determine reasonable selection of accelerometer locations compared with the others.
