  • Increasing flexibility and lightness of recently built high-rise buildings make the structures susceptible to loads such as earthquakes and winds. Therefore, higher performance vibration control systems to reduce the vibration levels are demanded more than any time in the past. One of the typical active vibration control systems is the active mass driver (AMD). In this paper, an active vibration control system consisting of small shaking table, building model, sensors, signal processing board and AMD is constructed. The dynamic characteristics of these individual systems are investigated through the experimental study. The performance of the active vibration control system is verified through the El Centro earthquake(1940,NS) on the building model.

  • In this study, eco-friendly hybrid composite boards were manufactured from green tea and wood fibers for application as interior materials with various functionalities of green tea and strong strength properties of wood fibers. In this relation, the effect of green tea content on dynamic MOEs (modulus of elasticity) of these green tea and wood fibers composite boards were investigated. The dynamic MOEs of hybrid composite boards were lower than those of control boards without green tea, and the values decreased with the increase of green tea content. Also, the dynamic MOEs appeared to be somewhat different by resin type used for board manufacture. The hybrid composite boards manufactured from $E_1$ grade urea resin, which has higher molar ratio of formaldehyde to urea than that of $E_0$ grade one, were 1.06~1.54 times higher than that manufactured from $E_0$ grade. And, the differences between hybrid composite boards manufactured from both adhesive increased with the increase of green tea content. On the other hand, high correlations were found between dynamic MOE and static bending strength performances, it was concluded that static bending strength performances could be estimated from the dynamic MOE, except for a few hybrid board types with large variations.

  • In this paper, We make horizontal balancer (HB) and confirm a possibility of the technique that can be applied to ship through horizontal vibration reduction experiment. We use MATLAB as the simulator tool and experimental equipment consists of two induction motors shafts of which cam type unbalanced loads are fixed to, DSP and inverter circuit. Two induction motors perform roles as vibrator and balancer respectively, DSP control softwares such as speed, phase and vector control program. The simulation and experimental results show that the balancer characterizes good vibration reduction by phase control.

  • There is a noticeable hum from the inverter board of LCD TV when in operation. In this study, we investigate the source and the characteristics of this noise for the inverter board of LCD TV using measurement of vibration and noise. Modal analysis of vibration and noise is visualized for identification of noise sources and transmission vibration. The main source of noise was the transformer of the LCD TV inverter. A noise reduction was achieved by damping the structural elements.

  • While a satellite is carried into orbit by a launch vehicle, it is exposed to the severe launch environment with random vibrations and shock. Accordingly, these vibration sources affect electronic equipment, particularly the printed circuit board (PCB) in the satellite. When the launch load impacts the PCB, it causes negative behavior. This causes perpendicular bending around the boundary of fixation points that finally leads to the failure of solder joints, lead wires, and PCB cracks. To overcome these issues, the electronic equipment design must meet reliability requirements. In this paper, Steinberg's method is used to derive allowable and maximum deflection to verify design from a life perspective concerning the control board of the Antenna Pointing Driver (APD) mounted on KOMPSAT-3.

  • This paper presents the analysis of tactile effects on different body parts according to the various vibration patterns. The experiments use a vibration pad made of 16 vibration elements in the form of $4{\times}4$ array. The vibration elements are controlled by a 8-bit microprocessor. The sound of gunshot initiates a vibration pattern on different body parts and its sensitivity is measured. The analysis of the experiments lead us to conclude that the vibration pad is the most realistic interface for shooting games and the shoulder part is the most sensitive part in the body. In addition, the most effective vibration pattern is the for the pattern which gives the sensation of spreading out from the center to the outside. This study analyzes the relationship between the human body parts and the tactile sensations by the various vibration patterns. The result of this study will be a good reference for user studies in the field of haptics based on the vibration.

  • This work presents an experimental investigation on vibration control of the active hybrid mount system for naval ships. To reduce unwanted vibrations, this paper proposes an active mount which consists of rubber element, piezostack actuator and inertial mass. The rubber element supports a mass. The piezostack actuator generates a proper control force and supply it to the mount system. To avoid being broken piezostack actuator, an actuator of the proposed mount is devised as an inertial type, in which a piezostack actuator is positioned between inertial mass and rubber element. Vibration control performances of the active mount system are evaluated via experiment. To attenuate the unwanted vibrations transferred from upper mass, the feedforward control is designed. In order to implement a control experiment, the active mount system supported by four active mounts is constructed. For realization of the controller, one-chip board is manufactured and utilized. Subsequently, vibration control performances of the proposed active mount system are experimentally evaluated in frequency domains.
