  • Aftermarket muffler has been developed mainly by personal experience and trial-and error and has not been properly simulated or evaluated its performance. One of the aftermarket muffler problems is that the aftermarket muffler has quite high pressure-drop across the passage. To reduce the pressure-drop, various simulation and test has been performed for various muffler models. As a result, the muffler that has superior pressure-drop and vibration characteristics compared to the previous muffler has been developed. Developed aftermarket muffler has a structure that avoids confined space causing vibration due to exhaust pressure pulsation and bisects an inlet pipe from the engine.

  • The present study aims at investigating the effectiveness of a new passive cavity flow control technique, sub-cavity. The characteristics of cavity flow oscillation with the device are compared with those with other control techniques tested previously, including a triangular bump and blowing jet. In the computation, the three-dimensional, unsteady Navier-Stokes equations governing the supersonic cavity flow are solved based on an implicit finite volume scheme spatially and multi-stage Runge-Kutta scheme temporally. Large eddy simulation (LES) is carried out to properly predict the turbulent features of cavity flow. The present results show that the pressure oscillation near the downstream edge dominates overall time-dependent cavity pressure variations, and the amplitude of the pressure oscillation can be reduced in the presence of a sub-cavity.

  • Thirteen taxi drivers as the subject in the experiment were exposed to vertical vibration which is controlled on a rigid seat reflecting vibration on passenger vehicle. They were employed not only to get human response of objective measurement but also to make subjective evaluation of the vibration. The subjective evaluation was estimated using the absolute discomfort threshold of the controlled vibration, which was achieved with the three-down one-up method that is widely used in the field of psychophysics. As the result, apparent mass and apparent eccentric mass as objective human response tend to gradually decrease when frequency of the vibration increases. The absolute discomfort threshold was increased in case of increasing the frequency. Concludingly, the subjective discomfort evaluation is highly correlated with the objective human responses at the range of idle vibration on passenger vehicle.

  • As the technique of automobile industry is being advanced, the advancement of vehicle ride is being required. In order to achieve this purpose, the study on the vibration which are produced by moving vehicle is carried out actively. In order to analysis, the tire vibration characteristics for passing over a cleat, the tire is modeled with 7-DOFs (degree of freedom). The model is verified against simulations and experiments. The effects of proposed tire design parameters such as the tire tread rubber, tread ring, apex are considered. According to the results of analysis, the tire design parameters that can reduce the tire and wheel vibration quantity are conducted.

  • This paper is concerned with the vibration measurement of cable by image processing technique. The measurement system consists of a CCD camera and zoom lens. The image data can be transferred to PC via USB or IEEE1394 port. In this study, a Matlab program was made to process the acquired image data. After acquiring an image data for each frame, this data is binarized for tracing cable vibrations. Then the area occupied by the cable is marked by 1 and the background is covered by 0. In this way, we can calculate the displacement of the cable. Experimental results show that the tracing of cable displacements is possible and natural frequencies and mode shapes can be computed. The accuracy of the image processing system for vibration measurement depends on the maximum frame rate of the CCD camera. The use of a high-speed camera enables us to compute more higher modes. The laboratory experiments guarantee the vibration measurement of real transmission lines.

  • Planar array of acoustic transducer is normally used in a sonar system. Acoustic radiation makes beam pattern in underwater uses. The main source of the beam pattern is due to the transducer array. Therefore, estimation of the acoustic radiated power is necessary to predict the performance and efficiency of the transducer. As an example of the acoustic radiation power, nine acoustic transducers mounted to a rigid infinite baffle are considered in a theoretical model. Each piston's acoustic radiation consists of self- and mutual-radiation impedances. Total radiation impedances and acoustic radiation power of the transducers are extracted using on the theory of an equivalent electric circuit. The theoretical results reveal that acoustic radiation power of the transducer depends on the mutual coupling effects.

  • In this study, combustion tests using liquefying fuels with fast regression rate were performed. The chamber pressure oscillation was analyzed and hazards of combustion instabilities were examined. In case of Liquefying fuel with fast regression rate, the amplitude of chamber pressure oscillation was increased compared to the polymeric fuels. However, the critical combustion instability can hardly occur in liquefying fuel. This is because the rapid change of inner chamber diameter limits the amplification of chamber pressure oscillation. The chamber pressure oscillation due to the large increase of fuel production and the vortex shedding in pre-chamber violently occurs during combustion using single-port axial injector.

  • In this study, we used artificial intelligence algorithms for the prediction of dissolved oxygen in Jindong Bay. To determine missing values in the observational data, we used the Bidirectional Recurrent Imputation for Time Series (BRITS) deep learning algorithm, Auto-Regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA), a widely used time series analysis method, and the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) deep learning method were used to predict the dissolved oxygen. We also compared accuracy of ARIMA and LSTM. The missing values were determined with high accuracy by BRITS in the surface layer; however, the accuracy was low in the lower layers. The accuracy of BRITS was unstable due to the experimental conditions in the middle layer. In the middle and bottom layers, the LSTM model showed higher accuracy than the ARIMA model, whereas the ARIMA model showed superior performance in the surface layer.
