Application of the AE Technique for The Detection of Shaft Crack with Low Speed (저속회전축의 균열 검출을 위한 음향방출기법의 적용)

  • Condition monitoring(CM) is a method based on non-destructive test(NDT). So, recently many kind of NDT were applied for CM. Acoustic emission(AE) is widely used for the early detection of faults in rotating machinery in these days because of high sensitivity than common accelerometers and detectable low energy vibration signals. And crack is considered one of severe fault in the rotating machine. Therefore, in this paper, study on early detection using AE has been accomplished for the crack of the low-speed shaft. There is a seeded initial crack on the shaft then the AE signal had been measured with low-speed rotation as the applied load condition. The signal detected from crack in rotating machine was detected by the AE transducer then the trend of crack growth had found out by using some of feature values such as peak value, skewness, kurtosis, crest factor, frequency center value(FC), variance frequency value(VF) and so on.

Sludge Detection Inside Pipes Using Torsional Guided Waves (비틀림 유도파를 이용한 배관 내부 슬러지검출)

  • A new method is presented that uses guided wave techniques for sludge and blockages detection in long-range pipelines. Existing techniques have the limitations that the sludge position needs to be known a priori and the area to be inspected needs to be accessible. Two guided wave techniques have been developed which allow the sludge or blockages to be detected remotely without the need to access the specific location where the pipe is blocked, nor to open the pipe. The first technique measures the reflection of guided waves by sludge which can be used to accurately locate the blocked region; the second technique detects sludge by revealing the changes to the transmitted guided waves propagating in the blocked region or after it. The two techniques complement each other and their combination leads to a reliable sludge or blockage detection. Various types of realistic sludge have been considered in the study and the practical capabilities of the two techniques have been demonstrated.

  • Fault diagnosis and condition monitoring for rotating machines are important for efficiency and accident prevention. The process of fault diagnosis is to extract the feature of signals and to classify each state. Conventionally, fault diagnosis has been developed by combining signal processing techniques for spectral analysis and pattern recognition, however these methods are not able to diagnose correctly for certain rotating machines and some faulty phenomena. In this paper, we add a minimum detection error algorithm to the previous method to reduce detection error rate. Vibration signals of the induction motor are measured and divided into subband signals. Each subband signal is processed to obtain the RMS, standard deviation and the statistic data for constructing the feature extraction vectors. We make a study of the fault diagnosis system that the feature extraction vectors are applied to K-means clustering algorithm and minimum detection error algorithm.

  • We present a quantum interference experiment with frequency-entangled pairs of photons with wavelength of 640 nm and 660 nm produced in the process of parametric down-conversion. When photon pairs in different angular frequencies $\omega$$_1$and $\omega$$_2$are registered by two detectors the coincidence counts exhibits a two-photon fringe as a function of relative time delay $\delta$$\tau$ of two photons within the coherence time depending on the arrangement of the detector pairs.

  • Failure detection in a cross-ply laminated composite beam under tensile loading were performed using a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor. A Passive Mach-Zehnder interferometric demodulator was proposed to enhance sensitivity and bandwidth. The proposed FBG sensor system without active device such as a phase modulator is very simple in configuration, easy to implement and enables the measurement of high-frequency vibration with low strain amplitude such as impact or failure signal. Failure signals detected by a FBG sensor had offset value corresponding to the strain shift with vibration at a maximum frequency of several hundreds of kilohertz. at the instant of transverse crack propagation in the 90 degree layer of composite beam.

  • TRIO-CINEMA(TRiplet Ionospheric Observatory-Cubesat for Ion, Neutron, Electron & MAgnetic field)는 지구근접공간에서의 미세 자기장 변화 및 중성입자의 검출을 목적으로 경희대학교와 UC Berkeley가 공동 개발하는 초소형위성이다. 초소형위성은 내부 공간이 협소하여 효율적인 공간배치 및 위성체발사 시 진동에도 견딜 수 있도록 harness가 제작되어야 한다. CINEMA는 OBC, EPS, 배터리, 수신기, IIB(Instrument Interface Board), MAGIC(MAGnetometer Imperial College) board, HVPS(High Voltage Power Supply)로 구성된 avionics bus와 MAGIC, STEIN(Supra Thermal Electron, Ion, Neutral)의 payload, Solar panel, UHF와 S-band 안테나로 구성되어 있다. Solar panel에서 생산된 전력은 EPS를 통해 배터리에 저장되고 PC104를 통해 avionics stack의 각 board로 전력이 분배된다. IIB는 탑재체 파트와 연결되어 이를 제어하고 HVPS에서 STEIN에 공급되는 고전압은 특수 와이어를 통해 연결되며 UHF 안테나와 S-band 안테나는 RF 케이블로 수신기와 송신기가 연결되어 있다. 각각의 harness는 케이블타이와 lacing tape로 위성체와 고정되며 커넥터는 고정 지지대를 제작하여 나사로 체결하였다. CINEMA에 적용된 harness는 진동시험과 열진공시험을 통해 harness와 시스템의 안정성이 검증 되었다.

  • Non-destructive inspection techniques using laser have been breading their application areas as well as growing their measurement skills together with the rapid development of circumferential technology like fiber optics. computer and image processing The ESPI technique is already on the stage of on-line testing with commercial products in developed country nations. Especially, this technique is expected to be applied to the nuclear industry, automobile and aerospace because it is proper for the vibration measurement and it can be applied to objects of a high temperature. This paper describes the use of the ESPI system for measuring vibration patterns on the reflecting objects. Using this system, high-quality Jo fringes for identifying mode shapes are displayed. A bias vibration is introduced into the reference beam to shift the Jo fringes so that fringe shift algorithms can be used to determine vibration amplitude. Using this method. amplitude fields for vibrating objects were obtained directly from the time-average interferometer recorded by the ESPI system.

  • In this paper, a study of damage detection for 2-Dimensional Truss Structures using the parametric projection filter theorr is presented. Many researchers are interested in inverse problem and one of solution procedures for inverse problems that are very effective is the approach using the filtering algorithm in conjunction with numerical solution methods. In filtering algorithm, the Kalman filtering algorithm is well known and have been applied to many kind of inverse problems. In this paper, the Parametric projection filtering in conjunction with structural analysis is applied to the identification of damages in 2-D truss structures. The natural frequency and modes of damaged truss model are adopted as the measurement data. The effectiveness of proposed method is verified through the numerical examples.

  • The basis of all approaches to improve reliability of marine engines exists in analyzing the field data of troubles and failures on marine engines. This paper analyses the data of troubles and failures on marine engines by Principal Component Analysis Method, one of Multivariate Data Analysis Method. The total number of data investigated is 211 and the observation period is 9 years. The analyzed factors are categorized among five groups respectively; electric.automatic control equipments, auxiliary machinery, pipings, refrigerators.air conditioners, and main engine. The failures in main engine are discovered by a definite fact of disorder, on the contrary, the failures in auxiliary machinery, refrigerators and air conditioners are discovered by sensible judgement of the operators.

  • Acoustic emission(AE) 센서의 감도개선을 위해 적합한 압전소자의 특성향상에 대해 연구하였다. AE 센서기술은 재료 내부에 마이크로크랙에 의해 변형과 손상이 생길 때 발생하는 기계적인 진동을 고감도 압전소자를 통해 전기적인 신호로 변환해 재료의 이상 유무를 알 수 있는 유용한 방법이다. AE 센서는 압전소자와 구리 캡 그리고 구리와 황동재질의 떨림판으로 구성되어 있다. 재료의 손상을 알기위한 변위가 낮을 경우 약한 AE 신호가 발생하며 검출하기가 어렵다. 미세변위에 의한 AE신호를 검출하기 위해서는 우수한 전기기계결합계수 (kp)와 압전상수($d_{33}$)를 갖는 압전소자가 필요하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 Pb$(Zr_{0.54}Ti_{0.46})O_3$ + x wt%$Cr_2O_3$ + y wt%$Nb_2O_5$ 조성에서 $Cr_2O_3$, $Nb_2O_5$ 첨가량 x, y 변화에 따른 압전특성과 AE센서특성을 고찰하였다.
