  • Today's employees are facing various socio-emotional problems due to the lack of appropriate supports and intervention in the workplace. These problems, however, cause considerable stress and inflict fatal damage on the quality of the employees' lives. Thus, this study analyzed the negative effects of the employees' socio-emotional problems on their stress, depression, and a sense of self-esteem. As a result, the study has identified that the problems occurred widely in the work life area such as job-related problem, predicament of retirement, workplace violence, family life area such as family relationship, child education, crisis problem, and lastly culture and health related area. This study also found that the socio-emotional problems in the three areas were the main stressors after all and they once again negatively affected depression and a sense of self-esteem. However, the role of social support, which is known to have the buffering effect on depression and a sense of self-esteem, was not sufficiently proved. This strongly implies that traditional social supports necessarily have limitations to overcome employees' socio-emotional problems in hand and thus systematic intervention toward the troubled workers in the organizational level must be required.

  • The purpose of this study was to measure the depressive symptoms and to determine their relationship with job stress content and social support of manufacturing male workers. A total of 428 male workers were surveyed from July 1 to August 31, 2017 using self-administered questionnaires. For the results, the rate of the depression group was 25.1%. In terms of the CES-D scores by job stress contents, CES-D scores were higher in the high job demand group than in the low group and higher in the low job control group than in the high group. In terms of CES-D scores by social support, CES-D scores were higher in the low supervisor support and coworker support group than in the high group. CES-D scores showed a significant positive correlation with job demand but a negative correlation with job control, supervisor support, and coworker support. In terms of hierarchical multiple regression analysis, higher job demand was associated with lower job control, and lower support of supervisors and coworkers gave high depression scores. Explanatory power for depression score significantly increased by 18.4% according to job demand and added job controls. Explanatory power increased by 14.1% with the support of supervisors and coworkers. The above results suggest that the level of depressive symptoms is highly correlated with job demand, job control, and support of supervisors and coworkers.

A total of 418 dental hygienists who were working in S, I and G area were recruited in this study. A self-administered questionnaire was used to evaluate individual and job characteristics, educational training, self-efficacy and social support of the study subjects. Hierarchical regression analysis was performed to examine the relationship of individual and job characteristics, educational training, self-efficacy and social support to job involvement. All statistical analyses were performed using the IBM SPSS Statistics ver. 20.0 for Windows, and p<0.05 was considered significant. The results show that learning experiences of liberal arts or social sciences as a part of college curriculum (t=-2.406), self-efficacy (t=3.728) and social support at work (t=4.391) were significantly associated with job involvement in dental hygienists. Dental hygienists who were having experiences of liberal arts or social sciences as a part of college curriculum, showing higher levels of self-efficacy, and receiving adequate social support from supervisors or coworkers at work were more likely to feel job involvement. They explained 17.4% of total variance of job involvement. This result suggests that experiences of liberal arts or social sciences as a part of college curriculum, higher levels of self-efficacy, and adequate social support from supervisors or coworkers at work might play an important role in increasing job involvement of dental hygienists. It is strongly required to develop individual and organizational program or training to promote a positive attitude to their job as a key professionals in the field of dental health, and to increase job involvement of dental hygienists.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of self efficacy, emotional labor, and social support on job center workers' psychological burnout. The data in the study were collected from 132 workers who work for job center in Busan, Ulsan, Gimhae, and Jinhae, and Self-Estimate Inventory, Emotional Labor Scale, Social Support Scale, and Maslach Burnout Inventory were used. Correlation analysis and multiple regression analysis were applied for data processing. The results of the study are as follows. First, the study found a correlation between job center workers' self efficacy and psychological burnout, with higher self efficacy being less burnout. This shows that self efficacy has an meaningful influence on job center workers' psychological burnout. Second, it also found a correlation between job center workers' emotional labor and psychological burnout, with higher emotional labor being more burnout. However, multiple regression analysis indicates that frequency of emotional display, attentiveness to required display rule, and emotional dissonance which are sub-factors of emotional labor have a negative influence on psychological burnout. Third, it found a correlation between job center workers' social support and psychological burnout, with higher social support being less burnout. Among sub-factors of social support, material support and evaluative support have a meaningful influence on psychological burnout statistically. Fourth, it showed that self efficacy has a high influence on psychological burnout. This research suggests to provide basic materials which are a great help to study job center worker's psychological burnout, and proposes to arrange various program for developing human resources of job center as a public employment organization.
