Success Factors of German Mittelstand as a Role Model for Korean Exporting SMEs (한국 수출중소기업 롤 모델로서 독일 미텔슈탄트의 성공요인 분석)

  • The term, Mittelstand, has no exact english translation for the definition, but, today, Mittelstand refers to small and medium-sized enterprises(SME), mostly family-owned firms in Germany. The Mittelstand is called the backbone of the German economy because it drove the economic miracle after World War II. During the global recession and the euro zone's debt crisis in recent years, in which european businesses have faced the near-collapse of competitiveness particularly in manufacturing, the German exports are booming and exceeded exports of China in 2012. Most importantly, the Germany economic performance has been widely attributed to the strength of the Mittelstand. Many of countries, even some leading public companies are seeking to emulate the success of the Mittelstand. Investors evaluate that many of Germany's investable "hidden champions" are Mittelstand companies. The purpose of this study is to present some of answers to the following questions: Firstly, what makes the German Mittelstand so successful? Secondly, what does the success of the German Mittelstand mean for the Korean SMEs in global competitiveness? Thirdly, what Korean government has to do improve the global competitiveness of the Korean SMEs? Some discussions in this study mention the managerial implications for Korean exporting SMEs particularly in manufacturing. Several factors that account for the success of the German Mittelstand are technological excellence and the tradition of family-owned management, concentration on niche market and globalization, and institutional supports. There are some of important lessons to be learned from the German Mittelstand. If the purposes of Korean SMEs want to remain in the sustainable competitive advantage and withstand unforeseen economic turbulences in the future, they must be able to meet the followings: 1) Technology that meets the global standard or exceeding it 2) Competitiveness in price in the global market 3) Active involvement in the globalization process, utilizing various entry modes Innovative products at globally competitive price are a crucial point for Korean exporting SMEs to achieve their competitive edge over others in the target markets abroad. It is time for Korean SMEs to cultivate a core competence in manufacturing in order to position Korea as a global manufacturing hub with SMEs leading.

Gender Difference of the Influencing Factors on Successful Aging among Rural Community-dwelling Korean Elders (남성노인과 여성노인의 성공적 노화 영향요인)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the degree of successful aging and to investigate influencing factors of it in elderly to types of gender. Subjects were 73 male elderly and 77 female elderly, total 150 elderly living at K city in C province, from May to June, 2012. The data were analyzed using the SPSS Win 18.0 program for $X^2$ test, t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple regression analysis. The correlated factors of successful aging among male elders included life satisfaction(r=.525, p<.001), family support(r=.355, p=.004), depression(r=-.555, p<.001) and loneliness(r=-.437, p<.001). Those of successful aging among female elders included life satisfaction(r=.607, p<.001), leisure satisfaction(r=.679, p<.001), family support(r=.784, p<.001), depression(r=-.516, p<.001), loneliness(r=-.644, p<.001) and self-transcendence(r=.576, p<.001). Life satisfaction and depression were statistically significant influencing factors of successful aging in male elders. Especially in the cases of female elders, life satisfaction, depression, family support and self-transcendence affected to successful aging. Life satisfaction, depression, family support, and self-transcendence were explained 52.9% in perception of successful aging among elders. This study suggests that life satisfaction, depression, family support, and self-transcendence will be considered in enhancing the successful aging promoting care and welfare designed for types of gender.

Relations among Personal, Occupational Characteristics and Preparation for the Old Age - Focused on the Workers in the Banwol·Siwha Industrial Complex- (근로자의 개인적·직업적 특성과 노후준비와의 관계 - 반월·시화공단 근로자를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the general concept and preparation process for successful aging. At the same time another object is to find out factors which were affecting influences on the preparations for the old age and analyze the relationships between the factors and preparation for old age. 280 questionnaires were distributed to over 40 years-old workers working in Banwol and Siwha industrial complex in Kyeonggi-do. Using 261 questionnaires, frequency analysis, factor analysis and multiple regression analysis, etc were executed with SPSS 18.0 to fulfill the purposes. Findings of the study are as follows. First, health condition had a positive effect on the general preparation for old age, but age, educational career, monthly income, religion and the number of children had partially positive effects. Second, job satisfaction had a positive effect on physical and economical preparation for old age, but job commitment had a positive effect on economical preparation only. Third, Age, educational career, spouse, religion, health condition and the number of children showed different effects on those preparations.

Searching the Meaning of Life Insurance Planner's Job Experiences (생명보험설계사의 직무경험 의미 탐색)

  • This study explores the meaning of life insurance planner's job experiences achieving job security, high performance and high income. After 6 of life insurance planners working in the field were chosen as the study participants, we use narrative approach to studying the meaning of their job experiences. The study shows that perception about job competency of planners depends on the level of experience: candidates who had no experience at all feel that anyone can perform planner's job, new employees after introduction training program see planners can do with product knowledge and consulting competency, and experienced people admit they can perform successfully only when they have good attitude towards customers and do all their work in a conscientious manner. Also, the meaning of planner's job experiences is identified as awareness of work value and serving customers with their commitment. The anticipated factors that make planner's job performed successfully are playing a role as a teacher, doctor, and angel, being regarded as happiness preacher for economic stability of individuals and families, and displaying their performance as experts.

Convergence Effective Factors for Work Performance among Returning to Workers with Industrial Accident (산업재해 직업복귀자의 업무수행능력 융합적 영향 요인)

  • For workers, industrial accidents exert a bad effect on the productivity, quality of life, and depress the morale. This study aimed to examine the overall influence on job performance of employees who returned to work after industrial accidents. This was a cross-sectional study using the data of 2013 and 2014 Panel Study of Worker's Compensation Insurance (PSWCI), and we performed logistic-regression analysis to analyze an affinity between general characteristics and job performance as independent variable and outcome variable, respectively. As a result, the major factor depressed the job performance were the 1 - 7 degree of disabilities and injuries with convalescence period for 6 to 9month or more than 12 months. In other words, this study shown that job performance was decreased as higher degree of disability and longer convalescence period. Job performance is the factor to identify indirectly worker's successful return to work, and it is important in follow-up of workers who returned to work after industrial accidents. Stable job performance of an industrial disaster victim is the key factor to maintain worker's comfortable and qualitative life as well as increase of productive capacity.

  • Job creation is foundation for wealth creation of the individual personal and important social activities that can solve the problem through increased economic activity and decreased population of unemployment. Jab creation contributes to the best way to solve social problems by acting as mediator of economic stability by establishment to a virtuous cycle between growth and employment and providing the foundation for sustainable growth. In this study, the factors affect on entrepreneurship and professional values were studied on the vocational personality types of student. As a result of this study, Vocational personality types positive commitment to the entrepreneurship. Realistic, exploratory, artistic, social, persuasive and customary factors also positive commitment the entrepreneurship. Vocational personality types positive commitment to the professional values. Professional values positive commitment to the entrepreneurship. However, the professional value factors which are self-actualization, safety, power, independence, community service and leadership depend on entrepreneurship. Therefore, in order to improve the success rate of student start ups, the appropriate selection of optional items of start ups and entrepreneurship education at the right time to establish a business plan by the type of vocational personality types and should provide the opportunity to encounter.

  • The government is trying to create jobs by providing 160 billion won in 2021 to revitalize youth start-ups, but the number of youth unemployment and potential unemployment is hitting a record high of 1.2 million due to the shock of employment due to COVID-19. Although start-ups are encouraged as an alternative to revitalizing jobs, the success rate of young start-ups is low due to lack of start-up funds and experience. The purpose of this study is to understand the need to diversify start-up education and career education by understanding start-up policies through one-time funding and short-term education. The results of the study on the factors affecting the willingness to start a business were as follows, by sampling 344 students from specialized high schools preparing for employment and 344 young people in their 20s who are seeking jobs. First, among the entrepreneurship subvariables, innovation, autonomy of job value, and desire for economic achievement are significant, and the older the person surveyed, the more positive the perception of the entrepreneur was. Second, as you get older, your will to start a business decreases, and your experience in successful start-up models and start-up education has an impact on your will to start a business. Third, perception of entrepreneurs is a partial medium effect, which indirectly influences the willingness to start a business and directly or indirectly influences the willingness to start a business through the autonomy of job values, the desire to achieve economic and entrepreneurship.

  • The purpose of the study was to examine the case of Regional Learning Network and present the implications for Consortium training Programs for small and middle-sized corporations in Korea. I found a following findings in Alesund regional learning network. First, companies participated regional learning network on their own initiative. Second, companies developed their innovation competency and had a chance to implement change management programs in order to cope with dynamic environment. Third, regional learning network was designed based on organization learning theory which make it possible to create, experiment and share the common knowledge for paticipating companies. Based on the these findings, implications for Consortium training Programs for small and middle-sized corporations in Korea was presented.

The Effect of Job Stress on Job Intention of Vocational Counselors : Focusing on the Mediating Effect of Job Satisfaction (직업상담사의 직무스트레스가 이직의도에 미치는 영향 : 직무만족의 매개효과를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to empirically analyze the impact of job stress on job turnover intention through job satisfaction for vocational counselors working in private and employment centers in Korea. This study applied the significance sampling method, and the number of samples used in the maximum analysis was 167 copies, and statistical analysis was conducted using the SPSS 20.0 program. In order to verify the relationship between each variable, four hypotheses were established, and empirical analysis and surveys were conducted. As a result of the analysis, first, among the sub-factors of job stress of vocational counselors, job demands, organizational systems, and workplace culture had a significant positive (+) effect on turnover intention. Second, among the sub-factors of job stress, job demand, lack of job autonomy, and organizational system were found to have a significant negative (-) effect on job satisfaction. Third, job satisfaction was found to have a significant negative (-) effect on turnover intention. Fourth, it was found that job satisfaction partially mediates complete mediation with job factors, which are sub-factors of job stress, with the organizational system. Therefore, it can be seen that job stress of vocational counselors is a factor affecting turnover intention and job satisfaction. Based on these analysis results, the implications of the study, suggestions to reduce the intention to change jobs due to stress of vocational counselors, and limitations of the study were presented.

Determinants Factors Analysis of Job Retention for Injured Workers after Return-to-Work Using Recurrent Event Survival Analysis (산재근로자의 직업복귀 이후 고용유지 영향 요인 : 재발사건생존분석을 중심으로)

  • This study aims to investigate determinants that affect job retention of injured workers depending upon types of return to work in order to suggest define the intervention priority for those who returned to original works and for those who did not. After constructing explaining variables based on literature reviews, determinants were verified analyzing 1,292 people using Panel Study of Worker's Compensation Insurance(PSWCI) data. The job retention period turned out to be 46.6 months for those who returned to original work and 34.2 month for those who returned to new works. Injured workers who return to new works tend to have more unemployment experiences. As a result of Cox proportional regression analysis, the longer it takes to return to work, the longer both groups tend to retain after the accident. Age, recuperation period, health status, psycho-social rehabilitation, education and occupational training also affect on job retention probability for those who return to new work. Based upon the analyzed result, setting up an adequate duration for return-to-work, intervention for injured workers who experienced vulnerable working condition before the accident and continuous case management after return-to-work are suggested.
