  • Students' perception of science-related career strongly influences the formation of career motivation in science. Especially, the high level of science gifted students' positive perceptions plays an important role in allowing them to continue to study science. This study compared perceptions of science-related career between general and gifted middle school students using semantic network analysis. To ensure this end, we first structuralize semantic networks of science-related careers that students perceived. Then, we identified the characters of networks that two different student groups showed based on the structure matrix indices of semantic network analysis. The findings illustrated that the number of science-related careers shown in science gifted students' answer is more than in general students' answer. In addition, the science gifted students perceived more diverse science-related careers than general students. Second, scientific career such as natural scientists and professors were shown in the core of science gifted students' perception network whereas non-research oriented careers such as science teachers and doctors were shown in the core of general students' perception network. In this study, we identified the science gifted students' perceptions of science-related career was significantly different from the general students'. The findings of current study can be used for the science teachers to advise science gifted students on science-related careers.

  • This study was conducted to determine the quality of sleep, and its association with the sociodemographic characteristics, health-related characteristics, and job-related characteristics among male workers in small-scale manufacturing industries with fewer than 50 members. A self-administered questionnaire was distributed to 856 male workers from April $1^{st}$ to June $30^{th}$, 2011. The survey items included the variables of sociodemographic, health-related, job-related, and quality of sleep. As a result, the quality of sleep according to the PSQI of the study subjects revealed 32.0% to be good and 68.0% to be poor. The quality of sleep assessed by hierarchical multiple regression analysis was significantly lower in the married group, those with lower BMI, and those with a lower level of subjective health status, non-smoking, alcohol drinking, without regular exercise, coffee drinking, blue color, had a longer of working hours, subjective health status, had a visiting out-patient department, and had a history of hospitalization. With the above model, the job characteristics had 13.1% explanatory power. This suggests that the quality of sleep (PSQI) has more power when combined with the job characteristics.

  • Developing our understanding of retail employee job satisfaction is important, especially given its impact in reducing employee turnover intentions and increasing employee job performance. While developing our understanding of job satisfaction is important, the vast majority of studies examine job satisfaction as a global or single-faceted construct. However, extant research provides evidence that to properly measure job satisfaction, multi-faceted scales are required (e.g. Churchill et al., 1974; Boles et al., 2007; Rutherford et al., 2009). Using the literature on multi-faceted job satisfaction, this study examines retail employees' satisfaction with supervision, job, company policy, promotion, pay, fellow workers, and customers. Specifically, emotional exhaustion, need for emotion, and personal traits (strong, independent, and warm) are examined as antecedents. This study finds that emotional exhaustion is negatively related to all seven facets of job satisfaction.
