DEVELOPMENT OF GENERAL PURPOSE THERMO/FLUID FLOW ANALYSIS PROGRAM NUFLEX (범용 열/유체 유동해석 프로그램 NUFLEX의 개발)

  • A general purpose program NUFLEX for the analysis 3-D thermo/fluid flow and pre/post processor in complex geometry has been developed, which consists of a flow solver based on FVM and GUI based pre/post processor. The solver employs a general non-orthogonal grid system with structured grid and solves laminar and turbulent flows with standard/RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. In addition, NUFLEX is incorporated with various physical models, such as interfacial tracking, cavitation, MHD, melting/solidification and spray models. For the purpose of evaluation of the program and testing the applicability, many actual problems are solved and compared with the available data. Comparison of the results with that by STAR-CD or FLUENT program has been also made for the same flow configuration and grid structure to test the validity of NUFLEX.

Analysis of Added Resistance in Short Waves (단파장 영역에서의 부가저항 해석)

  • In this study, the added resistance of ships in short waves is systematically studied by using two different numerical methods - Rankine panel method and Cartesian grid method – and existing asymptotic and empirical formulae. Analysis of added resistance in short waves has been preconceived as a shortcoming of numerical computation. This study aims to observe such preconception by comparing the computational results, particularly based on two representative three-dimensional methods, and with the existing formulae and experimental data. In the Rankine panel method, a near-field method based on direct pressure integration is adopted. In the Cartesian grid method, the wave-body interaction problem is considered as a multiphase problem, and volume fraction functions are defined in order to identify each phase in a Cartesian grid. The computational results of added resistance in short waves using the two methods are systematically compared with experimental data for several ship models, including S175 containership, KVLCC2 and Series 60 hulls (CB = 0.7, 0.8). The present study includes the comparison with the established asymptotic and empirical formulae in short waves.

  • Cartesian grid system has mainly been used in the casting simulation even though it does not nicely represent sloped and curved surfaces. These distorted boundaries cause several problems. A special treatment is necessary to clear these problems. A cut cell method on Cartesian grids has been developed to simulate three-dimensional mold filling Cut cells at a cast-mold interface are generated on Cartesian grids. Governing equations were computed using volume and areas of cast at cut cells. In this paper, we propose a new method that can consider the cutting cells which are cut by casting and mold based on the patial cell treatment (PCT). This method provides a better representation of geometry surface and will be used in the computation of velocities that are defined on the cell boundaries in the Cartesian gird system. Various test examples for several casting process were computed and validated. The analysis results of more accurate fluid flow pattern and less momentum loss owing to the stepped boundaries in the Cartesian grid system were confirmed. We can know the momentum energy at the cut cell is conserved by using the cut cell method. By using the cut cell method. performance of computation gets better because of reducing the whole number of meshes.

  • It is important to research and understand the physical phenomenon around a semi-submersible offshore structure on waves and currents because the wave run-up and load occurs owing to the waves and currents. In this study, the numerical simulations are performed about flow around a fixed semi-submersible offshore structure. The Modified Marker-density method is adopted in the present computation procedure, this method is one of the various methods to define the free-surface. The present computation results are compared with existing experimental and numerical simulation(VOF method) results. And, the computation results are relatively coincident with the existing results of model test and numerical simulation by VOF method.

  • 하천 수치모델링을 통한 흐름, 오염물질 거동, 지형변화 해석 등은 효율적인 하천 수질 관리를 위해서 상당히 중요한 부분은 차지한다. 수질이나 지형변화를 보다 정확하게 예측하기 위해서는 하천 흐름 예측의 정확도 향상이 중요한 역할을 하게 된다. 본 연구는 평면 이차원 하상변동 및 수질예측 수치모형인 KU-RLMS 모형을 이용하여 낙동강 상류의 반변천 합류부의 흐름 특성을 규명하고, 수질 모형을 수행하기 위한 흐름 계산 결과를 제공하기 위해 수행하였다. KU-RLMS 모형은 하천 및 저수지의 국부적인 수리, 수질, 유사이동 해석을 위해 개발된 평면 이차원 비정상 수치모형이다. 직사각형 격자를 사용하는 유한차분법의 단점을 보완하기 위해, 흐름 계산을 위한 지배방정식은 3차원 Reynolds 방정식으로부터 수심적분된 2차원 연속방정식과 운동량방정식을 불규칙한 경계를 현실적으로 모사할 수 있는 직교곡선 좌표계로 변환한 방정식을 사용한다. 수치모형 적용을 위한 현황분석으로 안동 및 임하 조정지댐의 방류량, 안동 수위관측소의 자료를 분석하였다. 흐름 모형을 보정하기 위해 안동대교 지점에서 횡유속 분포를 측정하였으며, 이 결과를 사용하여 흐름 모형의 매개변수인 Manning 계수와 공간가중계수를 추정 및 검증하였다. 안동다목적댐과 임하다목적댐의 방류량을 고려하여 수치모의조건을 결정하였으며, 각 조건에 대한 흐름 변화 특성을 분석하였다.

Wiener-Hopf Equation with Robustness to Application System (응용시스템에 강건한 Wiener-Hopf 방정식)

  • In this paper, we propose an equivalent Wiener-Hopf equation. The proposed algorithm can obtain the weight vector of a TDL(tapped-delay-line) filter and the error simultaneously if the inputs are orthogonal to each other. The equivalent Wiener-Hopf equation was analyzed theoretically based on the MMSE(minimum mean square error) method. The results present that the proposed algorithm is equivalent to original Wiener-Hopf equation. In conclusion, our method can find the coefficient of the TDL (tapped-delay-line) filter where a lattice filter is used, and also when the process of Gram-Schmidt orthogonalization is used. Furthermore, a new cost function is suggested which may facilitate research in the adaptive signal processing area.

  • Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) is widely used in contemporary wired and wireless communications systems. In this paper, I propose a generalized triangular quadrature amplitude modulation (gTQAM) that includes the square quadrature amplitude modulation (SQAM), TQAM, and ${\Theta}$-QAM as special cases. Therefore, the proposed gTQAM forming a lattice of arbitrary triangles provides a versatile structure in signal constellations compared to other QAM schemes. For M-ary gTQAM, I derive an exact closed-form expression for the bit error rate (BER), and present the optimal signal constellations for given SNR values from the derived BER expression. Finally, I validate the derived BER results through computer simulations.

A Study on Hydraulic Characteristics of River with Floodplain Vegetation (홍수터 식생에 의한 하천의 수리특성 연구)

  • 기존의 하천관리는 이 치수에 중점을 두었다면 최근에는 환경의 중요성을 인식하고 하천복원사업을 통해 주변환경을 개선하여 자연과 공존하는 방향으로 바뀌고 있다. 하천에 분포하는 다양한 종류의 식생은 지형변화, 유속 및 수위 변화 등 직 간접적으로 하천에 영향을 미치고 있다. 따라서 효과적인 하천관리를 위해서는 하천흐름에 대한 식생의 영향을 이해하고 분석하는 것이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 다차원 수리 수질 통합분석이 가능한 EFDC모형을 이용하여 홍수터 식생에 의한 하천의 수리특성 변화를 모의하였다. 금강수계 공주보~백제보 구간에 대한 수치지도 및 수심측량 정보를 바탕으로 작성된 3차원 정밀지형도와 30~50 m 간격의 직교곡선격자망을 이용하여 지형을 구축하고, 홍수터 식생에 의한 흐름저항을 반영하기 위한 현장조사를 통해 작성된 식생분포지도를 토대로 교목류(Tree), 관목류(Shrub), 초본류(Herb), 수체(Water) 4가지로 구분하여 분포밀도, 흉고직경, 교목의 높이를 모형에 적용하였다. 2일 간의 보 운영조건에 따라 상류의 공주보 방류량과 하류의 백제보 수위를 경계조건으로 분석을 실시하고, 동일기간 61개 관측지점 중에서 상 중 하류 4개의 임의지점에 대하여 유속측정결과와 모의결과의 비교를 통해 모형을 검증하였다. 홍수터가 완전히 잠겨 식생의 영향을 크게 받는 고유량 조건에 대하여 식생의 적용 여부에 따른 수리특성 변화를 살펴본 결과 홍수터의 경우 일부구간에서 유속이 감소하였으나 인근 주수로의 유속은 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 하천수위의 변화는 미미한 것으로 나타났다.

Analysis of Electromagnetic Scattering by a Resistive Strip Grating with Tapered Resistivity on Dielectric Multilayers (다층 유전체위의 변하는 저항율을 가진 저항띠 격자구조에 의한 전자파 산란 해석)

  • In this paper, the E-polarized electromagnetic scattering problems by a resistive strip grating with tapered resistivity on 3 dielectric layers are analyzed to find out the effects for the tapered resistivity of resistive strip and the relative permittivity and thickness of 3 die- lectric layers by applying the Fourier-Galerkin moment methods. The induced surface current density is expanded in a series of Jacobi-polynomial ${P^{(\chi,\beta)}}_p$(.) of the order $\alpha$= 0 and $\beta$=1 as a kind of orthogonal polyomians, and the tapered resistivity assumes to vary linearly from 0 at one edge to finite resistivity at the other edge. The normalized reflected and transmitted powers are obtained by varying the tapered resistivity and the relative permittivity and thickness of dielectric layers. The sharp variation points are observed when the higher order modes are transferred between propagating and evanescent modes, and in general the local minimum positions occur at less grating period for the more relative permittivity of dielectric layers. It should be noted that the patterns of the normalized reflected and transmitted powers for the tapered resistivity are very much different from those of the uniform resistivity and perfectly conducting cases. The proposed method of this paper cna solve the scattering problems for the tapered resistive, uniform resistive, and PEC strip cases.
