Analysis and Implications on Recent Research Articles' Trends in Korean Academy Literature (한국장애인복지학 연구동향에 관한 분석과 고찰: 장애인복지학의 이론적 패러다임을 중심으로)

  • This paper aimed to analyze articles published in 9 Korean social work journals from 1979 to 2005 regarding the conceptualization of disability and the orientation of disability theories. Trends of disability theories have shifted from the division of the individual model and the social model to four models including individual materialist, individual idealist, social creationist, and social constructionist. As a result of categorizing the articles, it was revealed that the individual idealist position is the most popular and the social creationist position is increasingly popular. To understand disability holistically, the complexity of disability has to be addressed rather than focusing on one model.

  • This study is an argument that Yeoheon Jang Hyun Gwang's Yeok-Hak-Do-Seol has been on the context of the typical Confucian methodology of self-organization for a sage's or superman's character (爲己之學) and completed the methodology. Therefore the context from Confucius to Southern Song China Era is argued as a context of development and systematization of the methodology. In addition the fact that Zhuxi(朱熹) and his students had systimatization of the methodology with the publications of some important textbooks is also explained. The most stressed thing of this study is Yeoheon's Yeok-Hak-Do-Seol is just the text that succeeded them as the methodology of self-organization and had a special purpose of completion of the methodology not only with comprehensive items of practice but also intuition into the human's life and the world by his mastery of Yeokhak(易學). The viewpoint this study keeps is the Confucian methodology of self-organization is considered for the purpose of development and upholding the Confucian truth, and thus the methodology itself has been regarded as the necessary one that is the closest approximation to a pursuit of Confucian truth. According to this viewpoint we can observe the features of methodology of the pursuit of Confucian truth from the Yeok-Hak-Do-Seol. However the Yeok-Hak-Do-Seol has its purpose merely on a human being's self-organization but also on an enormous enterprise to make the universe peace or sustainability of the world. His stress on the enterprise shows that his methodology is not a merely repetition of the tradition of the Zhuzixue but a creative deveopment of the tradition. The other feature is that his methodology is systematization on the basis of Yeokhak, or the study of Yi-jing(易經). The main method he intensified is easiness and simplification that is the main point which he extracted from Yi-jing as the most important and necessary way of life.

  • This paper tries to study theoretical transformation about modernity by analyzing changes of the concepts of Gaining Knowledge of the Study of Things(格物致知). Gaining Knowledge of the Study of Things(格物致知) was the main concept to explain the thought of Neo-Confucianism(性理學). But in the Modern era Gaining Knowledge of the Study of Things(格物致知) was understood as the meaning of Science. In Neo-Confucianism(性理學) Gaining Knowledge of the Study of Things(格物致知) was closely related to the side of human duty and the moral value judgement. But in the modern meaning Gaining Knowledge of the Study of Things(格物致知: Science) was focused to scientific study of the objective matter. So the Science on Gaining Knowledge of the Study of Things(格物致知學) effect to breakup the thinking of Neo-Confucianism(性理學).

The Advent of Earth Science and the Changes of the Geography Curriculum in 1950s (1950년대 지학의 등장과 지리교육과정의 변화)

  • Among the changes of the Curriculum from the liberation to the present, the biggest change in the highschool geography course appeared during the period from the Period of Syllabus to the 1st National Curriculum. More specifically, during the 1st National Curriculum the highschool geography course which previously had three subjects, 'Natural Environment and Human Lives', 'Human Geography', 'Economic Geography' was reduced to one subject, 'Human Geography.' In addition, while some contents related with astronomy, geology, and biology had been contained in the physiography course, they were left out from the human geography course of the 1st National Curriculum. This reduction of the geography course was related to the context that earth science was newly established in the 1st National Curriculum. Originally the draft plan released in June, 1953, which was 10 months before the formal time allotment criteria list had been made public, contained 'Physical Geography' instead of 'Earth Science'. What is sorry is that the name of 'Physical Geography' did not remain and was changed to 'Earth Science'. The underlying causes of the crisis the geography education is now facing are the reduction of Physical Geography and the emergence of 'Earth Science' during the 1st National Curriculum. To overcome the present crisis, the subject of geography should be changed more meaningful one based on the comprehensive perspective and academic product that geography has accumulated.

Ethnomathematics and Multicultural Mathematics Education: Educational Discourses of Diversity and Its Implications (민족지학적 수학과 다문화적 수학교육: 수학교실에서의 다양성에 대한 교육적 담론)

  • This paper presents an overview of theories about ethnomathematics to seek for implications for multicultural mathematics education. Initiated by anthropological inquiries into mathematics outside of Europe, research of ethnomathematics has revealed the facets of mathematics as a historicocultural construct of a community. Specifically, it has been shown that mathematics is culturally relative knowledge system situated within a certain communal epistemological norms. This implies that indigenous mathematics, which had traditionally been regarded as primitive and marginal knowledge, is a historicocultural construct whose legitimacy is conferred by the system of the communal epistemological norms. The recognition of the cultural facets in mathematics has faciliated the reconsideration of what is legitimate mathematics. what is mathematical competence, and what teaching and learning mathematics is an about. This paper inquires multicultral discourses of mathematics education that research of ethnomathematics provides and identifies its implications concerning multicultural mathematics education.

Research Trends of Japanese Earth Science Education: An Analysis of Chigakukyouiku published by Japan Society of Earth Science Education (일본의 지구과학교육 연구 동향: 학회지 "지학교육(地學敎育)"을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate research trends of Japanese earth science education published in Chigakukyouiku by the Japan Society of Earth Science Education. A total of 129 articles published in the Journal between 1998 and 2003 were analyzed. The Journal published six issues each year, and each issue contained about four articles that were fewer numbers than Journal of the Korean Earth Science Society's. About Sixty percent of the papers were written by a single author. Analyzing the content of the papers, it was noted that the most articles were geology-related (41.1%) followed by oceanography-related (1.6%) and general science education papers (1.6%). In summary, the characteristics of research trends of Japanese earth science education are as follows: First, the most topics of the papers were related to environmental sciences including earthquake, volcano, and tsunami. This trend seems natural because Japanese schools are situated within the reach of these environmental events. Second, there found many papers that dealt with geological field trip or fossils adjacent to the local community. Third, there were several papers that established a relationship between environmental education and earth science education. Obviously these papers tried to incorporate environmental education into earth science education at the school level. Last but not least, there found an effort to introduce computer into earth science education as an innovative educational method, for example, 'computer and earth science education'.
