  • This study is about the k-nearest neighbor-based approach for the estimation of mutual information when the type of target variable is categorical and continuous. The results of Monte-Carlo simulation and experiments with real-world data show that k=1 is preferable. In practical application with real world data, our study shows that jittering and bootstrapping is needed.

  • The stippling techniques, which represent objects with numerous points using pen and ink. The previous stippling techniques for Non-Photorsealistc Rendering(NPR) use single-colored points to represent the tone of gray image ur the material of surface. This paper presents a new stippling technique with various colored points based on the analysis of color information. By using the color information of the input image on HSV model, we define the color weight function that allows to determine automatically the number and size of points. The color jittering based on Munsell's color model can generate stippling drawings using various colored points to represent the image. Our color stippling method is expected to be used in many areas such as animation, digital art, video processing and CG tool.

  • CCSDS Standard is widely used in international space telecommunication area. In this standard, Encryption is realized using a unique hierarchical encryption protocol and satisfied security requirements of communication channels. For synchronization, encryption sync is attached in the beginning of encrypted data. But exceptional case(timing jittering, abnormal system shutdown, etc.) is occurred, receiving equipment cannot decrypt received data. In this paper, we propose a SES Alarmed link encryption synchronization method for sending warning signal to the transmitter when some problems have been occurred during the transmission and we also suggest optimum conditions for SES Alarm signal through performance analysis.

  • Side channel attacks are well known as one of the most powerful physical attacks against low-power cryptographic devices and do not take into account of the target's theoretical security. As an important succeeding factor in side channel attacks (specifically in DPAs), exact time-axis alignment methods are used to overcome misalignments caused by trigger jittering, noise and even some countermeasures intentionally applied to defend against side channel attacks such as random clock generation. However, the currently existing alignment methods consider only on the position of signals on time-axis, which is ineffective for certain countermeasures based on time-axis misalignments. This paper proposes a new signal alignment method based on interpolation and decimation techniques. Our proposal can align the size as well as the signals' position on time-axis. The validity of our proposed method is then evaluated experimentally with a smart card chip, and the results demonstrated that the proposed method is more efficient than the existing alignment methods.
