  • Auto Climbing Formwork System (ACS) for construction of high-rise building is a construction method for automatically lifting the formwork system supported by the anchor on the pre-constructed concrete wall. It has excellent construction speed and quality, but it has the possibility of structural failure depending on the quality of concrete and also has low economical efficiency due to the use of foreign technology. In order to overcome these problems, this study conducted an optimum design for the development of a new concept of Corner Supported Auto Climbing System (CS-ACS) in conjunction with the development of corner steel-reinforced concrete core wall system. For the design the formwork system, the basic module and structural member compositions were planned, and the structural analysis program was used to analyze the optimum member's cross section and spacing. As a result, the horizontal displacement and the stress of the horizontal members were influenced by the spacing more than the cross-section of the member. On the other hand, vertical members did not affect the displacement and stress of the formwork system. The form tie was very effective in controlling the displacement when adjusting the spacing of the horizontal members, but when the spacing of the form tie is more than 1,500mm, it is analyzed that form tie is yielding in basic module. When the span of the formwork system is more than 30m, it is analyzed that the basic module needs to be changed because of the increase of overall displacement.

  • Recently, with the advent of the 4th industrial revolution, digital twins are emerging as an important technology that connects and integrates physical systems and cyber systems. In this article, we analyzed the major requirements of digital twins required for the construction of digital twins of power equipments in the energy field, focusing on the industry 4.0-based Asset Administration Shell(AAS). However, since not so many studies have been conducted yet on a common platform or demonstration model for implementing digital twins both domestically and internationally, digital twin requirements are analyzed with the consideration of digital twinning of power equipment in the energy field. Also, we suggested necessary procedures and specific functions of AAS to establish a smart energy digital twin in the future by analyzing the core requirements necessary for the construction and designing the AAS design for specific power equipment.

  • The anion exchange membrane (AEM) water electrolysis for high purity hydrogen production is attracting attention as a next-generation green hydrogen production technology by using inexpensive non-noble metal-based catalysts instead of conventional precious metal catalysts used in proton exchange membrane (PEM) water electrolysis systems. However, since AEM water electrolysis technology is in the early stages of development, it is necessary to develop research on AEM, ionomers, electrode supports and catalysts, which are key elements of AEM water electrolysis. Among them, current research in the field of catalysts is being studied to apply a previously developed half-cell catalyst for alkali to the AEM system, and the applied catalyst has disadvantages of low activity and durability. Therefore, this review presented a catalyst synthesis technique that promoted oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) using a non-noble metal-based catalyst in an alkaline medium.

  • This study establishes a numerical analysis model of the finite element overhung rotor supported by a DTRB and describes the stiffness properties of the DTRB. The vibration characteristics and contact pressure of the RBR system are predicted according to the DTRB support characteristics such as the initial axial compression and roller profile. The stiffness of the DTRB significantly varies depending on the initial axial compression and external load owing to the occurrence of rollers under the no-load condition and increase in the Hertz contact force. The increase in the initial axial compression increases the rigidity of the DTRB, thereby reducing the displacement of the RBR system and simultaneously increasing the natural frequency. However, above a certain initial axial compression, the effect becomes insignificant, and an excessive increase in the initial axial compression increases the contact pressure. The roller crowning radius, which gives a curvature in the longitudinal direction of the roller, decreases the displacement of the RBR system and increases the natural frequency as the value increases. However, an increase in the crowning radius increases the edge stress, causing a negative effect in terms of the contact pressure. These results show that the DTRB support characteristics required for reducing the vibration and contact pressure of the RBR system supported by the DTRB can be designed.

  • Piled raft is known to be an unfavorable foundation type in soft clay because foundation is associated with both excessive settlement and bearing capacity failure problems. Despite these reasons, in recent decades, an increasing number of structures have been constructed over soft clay area, piled raft concepts arouse interest as the foundation of structures on soft clay area becomes popular. This study described 3 dimensional behavior of piled raft on soft clay based on a numerical study using 3D finite element method. A series of numerical analyses were performed for a various pile lengths and the pile configurations on the raft were subjected to vertical uniform or point loading. Based on the results of the parametric study, comparisons were made among the effect of loading type, various pile length and configurations, and the load-settlement behavior and load sharing characteristics of piled raft were also evaluated. From the results, the characteristic of piled raft on soft clay was examined.

  • For conventional gravity type offshore structures constructed on the soft ground, which is located on the western and/or southern Korea, the excessive consolidation settlements are caused by the self-weight of the structures and so additional ground treatment methods are generally needed. Several types of improved foundation systems utilizing buoyancy applicable to even the soft ground were introduced for economical and efficient design of the offshore structure. In this study, a series of numerical simulations on the consolidation and lateral behaviors of breakwaters with the improved foundation systems utilizing buoyancy were carried out. From the results of numerical simulations it is found that the foundation systems utilizing buoyancy are efficient for reducing the maximum consolidation settlements without reducing lateral safety.

  • In this study, behavior of a rigid continuous wall, earth pressure distribution with construction stage, and axial force of earth anchors were evaluated based on field monitoring data and numerical analysis results. For this purpose, a construction site excavated using the diaphragm wall was selected and full instrumentation system was introduced. From monitoring results, it was found that the values of horizontal displacement of the wall measured from the inclinometers, which were installed within the diaphragm wall were similar to analytical value. The earth pressure increased with excavation progress due to jacking force of the ground anchors installed in previous excavation stages. When the excavation depth reached 60% of the final depth, observed earth pressure distribution was similar to that estimated from Peck's apparent earth pressure distribution. When the excavation depth was around 90% of the final depth, values of observed earth pressure showed middle values between those of Peck's and Tschebotarioffs apparent earth pressures. It was also observed that, when excavation depth is deep, values of the earth pressures from the rigid wall were similar to those estimated from conventional earth pressure distribution shape proposed for flexible walls.

  • Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) method is being used increasingly in geotechnical design practice worldwide, and is expected to completely replace the current Allowable Stress Design (ASD) method in the near future. LRFD has advantages over ASD in that it allows the design of superstructures and substructures at a consistent reliable level by quantification of failure probability based on reliability analysis. At present, resistance factors for cast-in-place piles embedded in rocks are determined by AASHTO only for the intact rock conditions. In Korea, however, most of the bedrocks in which piles are embedded are heavily weathered. Thus, this study will try to determine the resistance factors of heavily weathered rocks (so-called intermediate goo-materials). To this aim, reliability analysis was carried out to evaluate the resistance factors of cast-in-place piles embedded in intermediate geo-materials in Korea. Pile load test data of 21 cast-in-place piles of 4 construction sites were used for the analysis. Depending on the method which calculates the pile capacities, the resulting resistance factors ranged between 0.1 and 0.6.

  • CWR (Continuous Welded Rail) may be broken when a temperature drop below the neutral temperature changes in axial force, causing tensile fracture and rail gap, in winter. Rail-breaks may lead to the damage of the rail and wheel by dynamic load, and the reduction of running safety if not detected before the passage of a train. In this study, the track and train coupled model with open gap for dynamic interaction analysis, is proposed. Linear track and train systems is coupled by the nonlinear Herzian contact spring and the complete system matrices of total track-train system is constructed. And the interaction phenomenon considering open gap, was defined by assigning the irregularity functions between the two sides of a gap. Time history analysis, which have an iteration scheme such as $Newmark-{\beta}$ method based on Modified Newton-Raphson methods, was performed to solve the nonlinear equation. Finally, numerical studies are performed to assess the effect of various parameters of system, apply to various speeds, open gap size and the support stiffness of rail.
