  • This paper describes the variations of geomagnetic field by analyzing the geomagnetic observation data, which spanned the period from 1918 through 1944 and the global geomagnetic model in Korea. Geomagnetic data observed at Incheon in the period of 1918~1944 and global geomagnetic model (IGRF-95) were obtained from the World Geomagnetic Data Center. In this study, the variations of geomagnetic declination is estimated as $1^\circ{50'}$ from 1918 to 2000 and the variation rate is given as the nearest 1'20"/yr. The total variation of inclination is about 38' for 82 years and the variation rate is estimated as the nearest 27"/yr."/yr.;/yr.

  • This study aimed at the correlation analysis of geomagnetic variations related to earthquakes which occurred in and around the Korean Peninsula from 2012 to 2014. The wavelet-based semblance technique was used to confirm the geomagnetic variations related to earthquakes. As a result, a pattern of consistent geomagnetic variations in total magnetic has been found from the earthquakes occurred within 100 km radius around the observation site. A similar correlation between earthquake location and Z-field geomagnetic data was also confirmed by the wavelet-based semblance analysis. We mainly used the high quality geomagnetic measurements from the Cheongyang Observatory and additionally used the data from the Bohyunsan Observatory in order to validate the correlation between earthquake and Z-field geomagnetic data.

  • Effects of steel-skeletons on the geomagnetic distribution in building have been studied through the simulation and measurement of geomagnetic distribution at floor surface. Geomagnetic distribution was simulated by the finite element method, and the vertical component Z of geomagnetic field on the floor surface was measured with the fluxgate-type magnetometer. Horizontal steel-skeletons have a little effect on the Z distribution, but vertical skeletons disturb severely the Z distribution and result in the localized geomagnetic disturbance. This disturbance becomes weakened by the bypassing soft-magnetic plate and/or floor.

  • This paper presents system to enable an efficient water vein detection using GPS and geomagnetic fields. Because the developed system in this paper can be automatically saved the data acquired from GPS and geomagenetic instrument into the database, it can decrease the number of detectors and save the time for water vein detection. The developed system can analyze the positions for the drilling correctly.

  • Geomagnetic variation around May 2, 2009 when Angdong earthquake broke out was analyzed using the data recorded at the Cheong-yang geomagnetic observatory, KMA. Firstly, we predict the geomagnetic variation by PCA analysis of geomagnetic data, and then compare the predicted value with the observed data to find any significant differences in residuals. Secondly, wavelet semblance technique is applied to compare the time series before and after the earthquake. Some meaningful change is detected in the Z-field. Thirdly, eigen value analysis for the 3 component geomagnetic data is performed. The location of the observatory was too far from the epicenter and the magnitude was too small to find decisive precursory phenomenon. Nevertheless we can detect some significant correlation between the earthquake and the variation of the geomagnetic field. Various signal processing methods applied in this study will give some opportunity to find precursory effects in the future.

  • In the paper we propose and implement a new indoor localization system where the techniques of magnetic field based fingerprinting and pedestrian dead reckoning are combined. First, we determine a target's location by comparing acquired magnetic field values with a magnetic field map containing pre-collected field values at different locations and choosing the location having the closest value. As the target moves, we use pedestrian dead reckoning to estimate the expected moving path, reducing the maximum positioning error of the initial location. The system eliminates the problem of localization error accumulation in pedestrian dead reckoning with the help of the fingerprinting and does not require Wi-Fi AP infrastructure, enabling cost-effective localization solution.

  • People grow up and build up most of their character through living in dwelling space and have relax and refresh at home. Creating healthy dwelling space is being considered very important in architectural planning and design for providing comfortable living environment and improving quality of life. Many research papers and experiments indicates that the geomagnetic field affects the people and living organism. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the geomagnetic field and people's response in dwelling space. In this study the Importance and Effect of Geomagnetic Field in dwelling space are studied through literature survey of related science field.

  • ULF geomagnetic field anomalies related to earthquakes have been reported and a mechnism that magnetic field variations could be generated by the induced telluric current due to the high frequency fluctuation of conductivity in a fault Bone have been proposed. In this study, we calculated electromagnetic anomalies using a simple fault model and investigated the possibility of significant perturbation. Since low frequency electromagnetic fields are modulated by the high frequency oscillation of conductivity and the modulated fields are concentrated in a narrow ULF band, the electromagnetic fields in ULF band could be perturbed significantly. The amplitude of electromagnetic field anomaly depends on various factors: the geometry and conductivity of fault zone, the magnitude and frequency of conductivity fluctuation, the resistivity structure of crust or mantle, the frequency bandwidth of observational data and so on. Therefore, it is strongly required to reveal the deep resistivity structure of crust a.: well ah the structure of fault zone and to ,select the optimal observation frequency band for the observation of electromagnetic activities related with earthquakes.
