With the increase of expansion and use of the underground space, the possibility of an underground explosion by terrorists is increasing. In this study, after modeling a circular tunnel excavated at a depth of 50m, an explosion load was applied to the inside of the tunnel. As for the explosion load, the explosion load of the maximum explosive amount for six types of vehicle booms proposed by ATF (Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms) was calculated. For the rock mass around the circular tunnel, three types of rock grades were selected according to the support pattern suggested in the domestic tunnel design. Nonlinear dynamic analysis was performed to evaluate the influence of the ground structure by examining the surface displacement using the explosion load and rock mass characteristics as parameters. As a result of the analysis, for grade 1 rock, the influence on the uplift of the surface should be considered, and for grade 2 and 3 rocks, the influence on a differential settlement should be considered. In particular, for grade 3 rocks, detailed analysis is required for ground-structure interaction within 40m. Also, it is considered that the influence of Young's modulus is the main factor for the surface displacement.

The development and use of underground space in the city have been expanded considerably worldwide due to the growing population and traffic. Because the construction of underground causes some problems including traffic jam and safety accidents, the non-open excavation construction method are commonly used. NTR (New Tubular Roof) method which is one of the non-open excavation method is investigated in this study. The structural safety of underground structures by using NTR method is evaluated by ANSYS 9.0. The tubular roof according to diameters are analysed by ANSYS 9.0 at critical construction step. Finally, according the diameter and thickness of tubular roof the stress nad dispacement are analyzed and then the The efficient use of tubular roof is suggested from relationship between tubular's thickness and stress condition.

Underground concrete structures are constructed under a geographical environment called underground and exposed to various environments that promote deterioration. Among them, groundwater promotes deterioration of underground concrete structures due to contaminated water from the ground. In this study, the chemical resistance performance test evaluation of five different receptors for a total of 15-type leakage repair materials of five series was conducted to determine the chemical stability of the leakage repair material used in the crack area. The results show a general increase and decrease in most chemical receptors, but the biggest increase and decrease was shown in acrylic systems, which were found in sodium chloride and sodium hydroxide, and epoxy was found in hydrochloric acid. The cement system is showing a lot of increase and decrease in sodium chloride. It is expected that the results of these studies will be used as a basis for chemical stabilization in the development of new materials.

Recently, earthquakes have occurred throughout the entire region of Korea and seismic analysis studies have been actively conducted in various fields. SSI analyses studies considering ground have been carried out consistently. However, few comparative analyses have been performed on the dynamic behavior of buildings according to numerical analysis method in the case of the previous dynamic analyses considering grounds. Therefore, in this study, the dynamic analyses were performed on a high-rise building by using both a finite element program MIDAS GTS NX and a finite difference program FLAC 2D. The results were compared and analyzed each other. As a result, both the maximum compressive and tensile bending stresses of above ground and below ground part were estimated to be a little larger by MIDAS GTS NX than by FLAC 2D. However, the maximum horizontal displacement value, the horizontal displacement distribution, and the position of weak part were turned out to be similar in both analysis programs. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is no difference in using either a finite element program or a finite difference program for the convenience of a user for a dynamic analysis.

The changes in earth pressure and ground settlement due to the underground excavation nearby the existing retaining wall according to the separation distance between underground excavation and retaining wall, were studied experimentally. A soil tank having 160 cm in length and 120 cm in height, was manufactured to simulate the underground excavation like tunnel by using 5 separated bottom walls. The variation of earth pressure was measured according to the excavation stages by using 10 separated right walls simulating the retaining wall. The results showed that the earth pressure was changed by the lowering of first bottom wall(B1), however the earth pressure was not changed significantly by the lowering of third bottom wall(B3) since B3 had sufficient separation distance from retaining wall. Lowering of first bottom wall(B1) induced the decrease of earth pressure in lower part of retaining wall, on the contrary, lowering of first bottom wall(B1) induced the increase of earth pressure in middle part of retaining wall proving the arching effect.

Recently, the development of underground space is being actively carried out in the urban area by saturation, and the excavation works are mainly carried out by various excavation methods by the structures adjacent to the ground and underground excavation. During such excavation work, ground subsidence accidents are occurring due to inattention construction, lack of construction technology, and leakage of ground water. For the prevention of ground subsidence we studied the method of risk influence factors by soil investigation. Analysis of 75 sites soil investigation by U.S.C.S (Unified Soil Classification System), construction method, depth of excavation and we studied the risk influence factors with ground subsidence.
This research was started in order to recognize the necessity of systematic and scientific approach to sinkholes, and to imply from an empirical point of view that a detailed evaluation method and measure for technique should be devised. As the result drew the risk factors that cause sinkholes by reflecting the opinions of water resources and ground experts, this research is expected to contribute to the development of a more systematic and pre-preventive evaluation index by preparing a countermeasure against sinkholes. In the future, it is necessary to develop an evaluation index toward the risk factors of sinkholes, in order to establish a scientific basis and objectivity that can determine priority, by subdividing the decision-making process that is required for preparing a countermeasure against sinkholes. In addition, a detailed methodology and related technique to measure each evaluation index should be continued to be discussed, in order to review the applicability of evaluation indices on actual sites.

The construction of underground structures such as box culverts for electric power transmission is increasing more and more, and the life extension of these structures is very important. Carbonation-induced corrosion in concrete may often occur in a high carbon dioxide environment. In this study, the risk of carbonation of two concrete box culverts in an urban area was evaluated by measuring the carbonation rate and concrete cover depth. Then, the carbonation-free service life at the depth of the steel was calculated, based on in situ information, by the Monte Carlo simulation. The service life of box culvert due to carbonation was estimated over 250 years via Monte Carlo simulation.

South Korea has recently witnessed an increasing number of seismic events, leading to a surge in studies focusing on seismic earth pressures, as well as the attributes of geological layers and ground where foundations are established. Consequently, earthquake-resistant design has become imperative to ensure the safety of subterranean structures. The slurry wall method, due to its superior wall rigidity, excellent water resistance, and minimal noise and vibration, is often employed in constructing high-rise buildings in urban areas. However, given the separation between panels that constitute the wall, slurry walls possess limited resistance to seismic loads in the longitudinal direction. As a solution, several studies have probed into the possibility of interconnecting slurry wall panels to augment their seismic performance. In this research, we developed and evaluated a method for linking slurry wall panels using mechanical joints, including concrete-confined steel pipes and headed bars, through mock-up tests. We also assessed the constructability of the suggested method and compared it with other analogous methods. Any challenges identified during the mock-up test were discussed to guide future research in resolving them. The results of this study aid in enhancing the seismic performance of slurry walls through the development of an interconnected panel method. Further research can build on these findings to address the identified issues and improve the efficacy and reliability of the proposed method.

Recently, due to the saturation of ground structures and the overpopulation of pipeline facilities requires to development of underground structures as an alternative to ground structures. Thus, mechanized tunnel construction of the shield TBM method has been increasing in order to prevent vibration and noise problems in construction of the NATM tunnel for the urban infrastructure construction. Tunnel construction plan for the tunnel line should be formed in a sharp curve to avoid building foundation and underground structures and it is inevitable to develop a shield TBM technology that suits the sharp curve tunnel construction. Therefore, this study is about the structural stability technology of the articulation jack, shield jack and skin plate for the shield TBM thrust in case of the mechanized tunnel construction that is a straight and sharp curve line. The construction case study and shield TBM operation principle are examined and analyzed by the theoretical approach. The torque of the cutter head, the thrust of the articulation jack and the shield jack, the amount of over cutting for curve is important respectively in shield TBM construction of straight and sharp curve line. In addition, it is very important to secure the stability of the skin plate structure to ensure the safety of the inside worker. This study examines the general structure and construction of the equipment, experimental simulation was carried out through numerical analysis to examine the main factors and structural stability of the skin plate structure. The structural stability of the skin plate was evaluated and optimizes the shape by comparing the loads of the articulation jack by selecting the virtual soil to be applied in a straight and sharp curve line construction. Since the present structure and operation method of the shield TBM type in domestic constructions are very similar, this study will help to develop the localized shield TBM technology for the new equipment and the vulnerability and stability review.
