In this study, a random vibration technique to anaiyze the vertical vibration of rigid circular footings on sand whose material properties are not previously determind is proposed. Total of 11 circular model footings varing mass ratio and radius are constructed for the vibration experim eat and the elastic half space is represented by compacted sand layer From the random vibration experiments, it is found that the technique suggested in this study gives more accurate prediction of circular footing behavior under vertical vibration than the simplified analog which assumes the subsoils as elastic half space. The predicted resonant frequene iris agree very well with the measured values from the slnusoidal vibration experiments. The ratio of the predicted resonant amplitudes to the measured values vary between 0.5 and 1,35 for the site used for the vibration experiments in this study.

While microseismicity induced by hydraulic stimulation carried out for EGS is useful means in estimating the range of permeability increase, it also affect surface structures and environments. In order to establish a mitigation plan for microseismicity triggered by hydraulic stimulation, we reviewed world-wide guidelines on the impact of ground vibration on the surface structure and human environment by blasting. Case studies from Europe and USA on the microseismicity by hydraulic stimulation are presented and suggestions are made for the guidelines on ground vibration by hydraulic stimulation for the ongoing Pohang EGS project.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate an effect of ground vibration caused by blasting on the concrete brick structure. For the purpose, dynamic response time-history of the structure assumed single degree of freedom (SDOF) system and vibration time-history directly measured from the structure were examined, using Newmark $\beta$ method based on data measured at ground. The time-history was interpreted from the measured data of ground and structure in single hole blasting. Vibration magnitude between ground vibration and structure in single hole blasting and 20 ms interval blasting was about three times and was shown larger vibration on the structure. By time-history analysis of structure dynamic response, the value was almost the same one with the data measured from the structure. It indicates that the vibration characteristics of structures may be predicted on the basis of the ground vibration data measured from the sub-ground of structure.

This paper deals with the free vibrations of shallow arches resting on elastic foundations. Foundations we assumed to follow the hypothesis proposed by Pasternak. The governing differential equation is derived for the in-plane free vibration of linearly elastic arches of uniform stiffness and constant mass per unit length. Two arch shapes with hinged-hinged and clamped-clamped end constraints we considered in analysis. The frequency equations (lowest symmetrical and antisymmetrical frequency equations) we obtained by Galerkin's method. The effects of arch rise, Winkler foundation parameter and shear foundation parameter on the lowest two natural frequencies are investigated. The effect of initial arch shapes on frequencies is also studied.
In order to reduce ground vibration during tunnel excavation, a free surface blasting method has been applied in which a partial free surface is formed on the excavation surface and controlled blasting is performed. In this study, the ground vibration reduction due to artificial joints was evaluated by forming artificial joints on center cut using diamond wire saw and comparing the ground vibration caused by center cut blasting. As a result of comparison, ground vibration was reduced by artificial joints center cut blasting more than normal center cut blasting, and the ground vibration reduction effect of horizontal artificial joints center cut blasting was evaluated more than that of vertical artificial joint center cut blasting.
This paper presents an assessment method of the ground vibration level with a combination of measured data and an analytic method. The basic concept of the method is similar to that in FRA(Federal Railway Administration) manual for detailed vibration analyses. However, going into detail, the assessment method was modified for a feasible evaluation of the vibration reduction effects of diverse types of wave barriers. The force density was evaluated in a vehicle-track interaction analysis and the transfer mobility of vibration was analyzed through a 2-D ground vibration analysis. The calculated 2-D transfer mobility was corrected to incorporate transfer characteristics of actual ground vibration by comparing the previously measured data and analysis results. Nine types of vibration reduction effects of wave barriers were analyzed on a shallow tunnel section of an urban railway where numerous civil complaints had actually been filed.
The stiff top layer in a soil profile, which can happen in winter, may change the isolation effect of the wave barrier. The research scope of this paper is the investigation of the propagation of surface waves in layered soil with a stiff layer on its top, and the isolation effect of the solid stiff wave barrier. The investigations have been performed numerically by the Boundary-Element Method as a two-dimensional problem. A strip foundation vibrated harmonically in vertical direction was considered as the vibration source. Three soil profiles, a homogeneous half-space, two profiles with different thickness of stiff top layer, with two different types of wave barriers were investigated. The profiles with a stiff top layer show considerable reductions of the amplitude of the vibration in comparison to the homogeneous soil profile. The layered soil profiles with a stiff top layer do not show wave propagation velocities as high as they are expected from the material properties. Furthermore the vibration amplitudes in a frozen soil are much smaller with distance than in a non-frozen soil.
