In recent, in case that the underpass is constructed by trenchless method, its stability increases by reinforcing steel pipe with re-bar and mortar after propulsion into the ground to form pipe-roof. Therefore, it can be predicted that the integrated pipe-roof decreases the stress acting on the underpass by sharing load. In this study, to analyze the effect of integrated pipe-roof and behavior of stress around underpass, experimental tests for the rectangular and arch cross section of the underpass are performed using soil chamber. As a result, stress and strain acting on the underpass decrease due to sharing load by integrated pipe-roof. This phenomenon is more pronounced by increasing the stiffness of pipe-roof. Furthermore it can be expected that cross-section of underpass can be economically designed.

Stone column or granular compaction pile have been used in widely during the several decades as a technique to reinforce soft cohesive soils and increase bearing capacity, accelerate consolidation settlement of the foundation soil. The bearing capacity of the granular compaction pile is governed mainly by the lateral confining pressure mobilized in the native soft soil to restrain bulging collapse of the granular pile. Therefore, the technique becomes unfeasible in soft, compressible clayey soils that do not provide sufficient lateral confinement. This paper presents the main results of numerical study of granular compaction pile which is partly mixed with lean concrete. 3D finite element analyses are performed with composite reinforced foundations by both granular compaction pile and partly mixed granular compaction pile with lean-mixed concrete.
We developed a Impulse Response Measurement System, including hardware system and data analysis software, for non-destructive test of slab structure. And, we carried out impulse response measurements on the pavement to test performance of the system. In the field test, the developed system measured impulse response stably and showed parameters immediately. Test results showed that dynamic stiffness and average mobility varies significantly depending on the characteristics of the pavement materials. Some data showed anomalous values those reflect variations in pavement itself or subsurface ground. Developed system gives informations of conditions of slab structure easily and quickly. So, 2-D monitoring with the system will be helpful in maintaining various slab structures.

The feasibility study of a newly proposed smart base isolation system employing magneto-rheological elastomers(MREs) has been carried out. MREs belong to a class of smart materials whose elastic modulus or stiffness can be adjusted by varying the magnitude of the magnetic field. The base isolation systems are considered as one of the most effective devices for vibration mitigation of civil engineering structures such as bridges and buildings in the event of earthquakes. The proposed base isolation system strives to enhance the performance of the conventional base isolation system by improving the robustness of the system wide stiffness range controllable of MREs, which improves the adaptability and helps in better vibration control. To validate the effectiveness of the MRE-based isolation system, an extensive numerical simulation study has been performed using both single-story and five-story building structures employing base isolated devices under several historical earthquake excitations. The results show that the proposed system outperformed the conventional system in reducing the responses of the structure in all the seismic excitations considered in the study.

This study investigates the dynamic instability of strength-limited bilinear single degree of freedom (SDF) systems under seismic excitation. The strength-limited bilinear hysteretic model best replicates the hysteretic behavior of the steel moment resisting frames. To estimate the dynamic instability of SDF systems, the collapse strength ratio is used, which is the yield-strength reduction factor when collapse occurs. Statistical studies are carried out to estimate median collapse strength ratios and those dispersions of strength-limited bilinear SDF systems with given natural periods, hardening stiffness ratios, post-capping stiffness ratios, ductility and damping ratios ranging from 2 to 20% subjected to 240 earthquake ground motions recorded on stiff soil sites. Equations to calculate median and standard deviation of collapse strength ratios in strength-limited bilinear SDF systems are obtained through nonlinear regression analysis. By using the proposed equations, this study estimated the probabilistic distribution of collapse strength ratios, and compared this with the exact values from which the accuracy of the proposed equations was verified.
The seismic responses of a building are affected by the connection characteristics that have effects on structural stiffness. In this study, push-over analysis and time history analysis were performed to estimate structural behavior of 2D eight-story unbraced steel structures with partially restrained composite connections using a nonlinear dynamic analysis program. Nonlinear $M-{\theta}$characteristics of connection and material inelastic characteristics of composite beam and steel column were considered. The idealization of composite semi-rigid connection as fully rigid connection yielded an increase in initial stiffness and ultimate strength in the push-over analysis. In time history analysis, the stiffness and hysteretic behavior of connections have effects on base-shear force, maximum story-drift and maximum moment in beams and columns. For seismic waves with PGA of 0.4 g, the structure with the semi-rigid composite connections shows the maximum story-drift with less than the life safety criteria by FEMA 273 and no inelastic behavior of beam and column, whereas in the structure with rigid connections, beams and columns have experienced inelastic behaviors.

The objective of present paper is to investigate elasto-plastic behaviour and estimate the resistance capacity of a beam-shear wall structural system against earthquake ground accleration exciations. Pushover analysis is adopted to estimate inttiate and post stiffnesses and yielding point for inelastic response analysis in LPM (Lumped Parameter Mass) model, and modified Clough model is used as the hysteresis rule of each story. Three earthquake waves are used in the analysis but their peak ground accelerations are changed to be 0.12g, 0.24g. It is assumed that the earthquakes act in the longigtudianl direction of a 25 Story apartment building which consists of two some unit plan. The distribution of story ratio and ductility ratio are estimated and discussed within Korean, Japanese code and UBC.

This study investigated the influence of probabilistic variability in stiffness and nonlinearity of soil on response of nuclear power plant (NPP) structure subjected to seismic loads considering the soil-structure interaction (SSI). Both deterministic and probabilistic methods have been employed to evaluate the dynamic responses of the structure. For the deterministic method, $SRP_{min}$ method given in USNRC SRP 3.7.2(2013) (envelope of responses using three shear modulus profiles of lower bound($G_{LB}$), best estimate($G_{BE}$) and upper bound($G_{UB}$)) and $SRP_{max}$ method (envelope of responses by more than three ground profiles within range of $G_{LB}{\leq}G{\leq}G_{UB}$) have been considered. The probabilistic method uses the Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS) that can capture probabilistic feature of soil stiffness defined by the median and the standard deviation. These analysis results indicated that 1) number of samples shall be larger than 60 to apply the probabilistic approach in SSI analysis and 2) in-structure response spectra using equivalent linear soil profiles considering the nonlinear behavior of soil medium can be larger than those based on low-strain soil profiles.
Hollow prestressed concrete-filled steel tube (HCFT) piles, which combines PHC piles inside thin-wall steel tubes, were developed to increase the flexural strength of the pile with respect to the lateral load. Since P-M curves are needed for evaluating the structural safety of piles when applying HCFT piles to fields, equations for plotting P-M curves of HCFT piles in limit states were proposed. When the yield strength is applied to the steel tube and PC steel bar of HCFT piles, the proposed equations significantly underestimated the flexural strength of HCFT piles. Unlike the flexural strength test results, the proposed equations also provide greater flexural strengths for 12 mm thick steel pipe piles with the same diameter than for HCFT piles. However, when the ultimate strengths are used instead of the yield strengths for the steel tube and PC steel bar, the proposed equations provide the flexural strengths very close to the flexural strength test results.
