The horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) has been widely applied to evaluate ground characteristics such as site response and thickness of the soft sedimentary layer on top of the bedrock via dominant frequencies and amplification factors of microtremors. Eight seismic stations were selected to investigate the HVSR results at the surface and at varying depths, and their variations due to wind speeds. These stations are equipped with seismic sensors on the surface and downhole(s) at depths. The borehole data analysis reveals that the geological condition at burial depth influences the HVSR results. Their dominant frequencies indicate the entire thickness of the soft layer, not the thickness to the bottom or top of the soft sedimentary layer from the seismometer burial depth. Analysis of the background noise observed at the surface showed that the resonance frequency estimation varied with wind speed changes. In the studied cases, the background noise observed in the sedimentary layer at depths of 20 to 66 meters yielded stable and consistent resonance frequency estimation regardless of wind speed fluctuations. The results of the seismic sensors buried deeper than 100 meters are unstable. The result indicates that the background noise from the buried seismometer at shallow depths (~0.3 m) under light wind conditions (wind speeds less than 3 m/s) is sufficient to achieve the purpose of the HVSR analysis.

In the companion papers (I, II), site-specific response analyses were performed at more than 300 domestic sites and a new site classification system and design response spectra (DRS) were proposed using the results of the site-specific response analyses. In this paper, the proposed site classification system and the design response spectra are compared with those in other seismic codes and verified by different methods. Firstly, the design response spectra are compared with the design response spectra in Eurocode 8, KBC 2016 and MOCT 1997 to estimate quantitative differences and general trends. Secondly, site-specific response analyses are carried out using $V_S$-profiles obtained using field seismic tests and the results are compared with the proposed DRS in order to reduce the uncertainty in using the SPT-N value in site-specific response analyses in the companion paper (I). In addition, site coefficients from real earthquake records measured in Korean peninsula are used to compare with the proposed site coefficients. Finally, dynamic centrifuge tests are also performed to simulate the representative Korean site conditions, such as shallow depth to bedrock and short-period amplification characteristics. The overall results showed that the proposed site classification system and design response spectra reasonably represented the site amplification characteristic of shallow bedrock condition in Korea.

In the companion paper (I - Database and Site Response Analyses), site-specific response analyses were performed at more than 300 domestic sites. In this study, a new site classification system and design response spectra are proposed using results of the site-specific response analyses. Depth to bedrock (H) and average shear wave velocity of soil above the bedrock ($V_{S,Soil}$) were adopted as parameters to classify the sites into sub-categories because these two factors mostly affect site amplification, especially for shallow bedrock region. The 20 m of depth to bedrock was selected as the initial parameter for site classification based on the trend of site coefficients obtained from the site-specific response analyses. The sites having less than 20 m of depth to bedrock (H1 sites) are sub-divided into two site classes using 260 m/s of $V_{S,Soil}$ while the sites having greater than 20 m of depth to bedrock (H2 sites) are sub-divided into two site classes at $V_{S,Soil}$ equal to 180 m/s. The integration interval of 0.4 ~ 1.5 sec period range was adopted to calculate the long-period site coefficients ($F_v$) for reflecting the amplification characteristics of Korean geological condition. In addition, the frequency distribution of depth to bedrock reported for Korean sites was also considered in calculating the site coefficients for H2 sites to incorporate sites having greater than 30 m of depth to bedrock. The relationships between the site coefficients and rock shaking intensity were proposed and then subsequently compared with the site coefficients of similar site classes suggested in other codes.

In this paper, we study the existing results of the structure-soil-structure interaction (SSSI) effect on seismic responses of structures and summarize important parameters. The parameters considered in this study are a combination of buildings in the power block of a nuclear power plant, the characteristics of earthquake ground motions and its direction, and the characteristics embedded under the ground. Based on these parameters, the seismic analysis model of the structures in the power block of the nuclear power plant is developed and the structure-soil-structure interaction analyses are performed to analyze the influence of the parameters on the seismic response. For all analyses, the soil-structure interaction (SSI) analysis program CNU-KIESSI, which was developed to enable large-sized seismic analysis, is used. In addition, the SSI analyses is performed on individual structures and the results are compared with the SSSI analysis results. Finally, the influence of the parameters on the seismic response of the structure due to the SSSI effect is reviewed through comparison of the analysis results.
In this study a lab scale seismic test method which is able to evaluate seismic resistant performance of the fire protecting components in case of earthquake was developed. This seismic test consists of equivalent accelerating and temporary accelerating. The former is to search for resonance frequency and the latter is to simulate vibrating by earthquake with intensive magnitude. The frequency and displacement accelerated to the components was decided by maximum acceleration of gravity, and whether or not they could maintain function was tried to be confirmed. This test method is expected as an effective one for evaluating seismic resistant performance for the fire protecting components.

The influences of high speed train on the dynamic responses of steel composite railway bridges are investigated. The bridge system which has two I-girder and several cross beams is modeled with plate and frame elements. With assumption of concrete slabs are fully connected with steel girders, the offset between slabs and girders is modeled using constraint equation. The track system is modeled using beams on elastic foundation theory. And, the TGV train model is developed in 2-dimension considering bouncing and pitching motion. And braking action of vehicle is considered using speed dependent braking function. To investigate the behavior of bridges due to moving trains, parametric studies on the variation of natural frequency of bridge, speed parameter, vehicle modeling method, braking action of train, etc are performed.

In general, the accelerogram of earthquake ground motion or the accelerogram obtained from dynamic tests contain various errors. In these errors of the accelerograms, there are instrumental errors(magnitude and phase distortion) due to the response characteristics of accelerometer and the digitizing error concentrated in low and high frequency components and random errors. Then, these errors may be detrimental to the results of data processing and dynamic analysis. An efficient method which can correct the errors of the accelerogram is proposed in this study. The correction of errors can be accomplished through four steps as followes ; 1) using an interpolation method a data form appropriate to the error correction is prepared, 2) low and high frequency errors of the accelerogram are removed by band-pass filter between prescribed frequency limits, 3) instrumental errors are corrected using dynamic equilibrium equation of the accelerometer, 4) velocity and displacement are obtained by integrating corrected accelerogram. Presently, infinite impulse response(IIR) filter and finite impulse response (FIR) filter are generally used as band-pass filter. In the proposed error correction procedure, the deficiencies of FIR filter and IIR filter are reduced and, using the properties of the differentiation and the integration of Fourier transform, the accuracy of instrument correction and integration is improved.
The spectral-analysis-of-surface-waves (SASW) method is a nondestructive testing method based upon generation and detection of elastic stress waves. SASW is widely used as one of the techniques to determine stiffness profile in engineering geophysics. The essential steps involved are construction of an experimental dispersion curve from data collected in situ, and inversion of the dispersion curve to determine the stiffness profile. The main object of this study is to derive an analytical Jacobian for the inversion. If we set the subsurface to N homogeneous layer, it could save 2N times Jacobian calculation compared to numerical jacobian calculation during inversion. To reconstruct a stiffness profile, constrained damped least square method was applied for the inversion. The algorithm was tested for the numerical data and for the real asphalt and tunnel data, which were able to verify the stiffness profile. The stiffness profile reconstructed by the algorithm showed the possibility to appraise the soundness of tunnel with applications SASW.

This study described a generation of artificial earthquake wave compatible with seismic design spectrum, and also determined equivalent static loads to analyzed the response spectra acceleration by the simulated earthquake motion. This study constructed powerful engineering base for seismic design, and presented equivalent static analysis method for seismic design of water and gas extinguishing piping system. Also, this study readied basis that can apply seismic design and performance estimation of fire fighting system as well as pipeline of water extinguishing system from result of this research. Hereafter, if additional research by earthquake magnitude and ground kind is approached, reliance elevation, safety raising and performance based design of fire fighting system see to achieve.

This paper presented regarding an parametric study to investigate seismic capacity evaluation of semi-rigid steel frame infilled with composit panel. In order to propose the optimum retrofit of the steel frame, we analysed the various pattern of retrofitted steel frame subjected to weak/medium earthquake. Steel frame with composit panel was analysed by Time history analyses analysis. The model were analysed using the suites of ground motion developed by NEHRP project on steel moment resisting frame. These earthquakes consist of 20 horizontal ground acceleration record each, i.e., a 10%, 50% probability of accidence in a 50 year period. We considered the semi-rigid connection which are commonly used in field, and modeled the nonlinear connection element (GAP) between panel and frame. It was shown that how is the steel frame with composit panel effected. We also examined the response of retrofitted frame.
