  • Finding communities from network data including social networks can be done by clustering the nodes of the network as densely interconnected groups, where keeping interconnection between groups sparse. To exploit a clustering algorithm for community detection task, we need a well-defined similarity measure between network nodes. In this paper, we propose a new similarity measure named "Common Neighborhood Sub-graph density" and combine the similarity with affinity propagation, which is a recently devised clustering algorithm.

  • Clustering of incomplete data using the Autoencoder and the Fuzzy c-Means(PCM) is proposed in this paper. The Proposed algorithm, called Optimal Completion Autoencoder Fuzzy c-Means(OCAEFCM), utilizes the Autoencoder Neural Network (AENN) and the Gradiant-based FCM (GBFCM) for optimal completion of missing data and clustering of the reconstructed data. The proposed OCAEFCM is applied to the IRIS data and a data set from a financial institution to evaluate the performance. When compared with the existing Optimal Completion Strategy FCM (OCSFCM), the OCAEFCM shows 18%-20% improvement of performance over OCSFCM.

  • Recently with the development of Internet technology, a lot of research area such as retrieval and extracting data have getting important for providing the information efficiently and quickly. Especially, the technique of analyzing and finding the semantic similar words for given korean word such as compound words or generated newly is necessary because it is not easy to catch the meaning or semantic about them. To handle of this problem, word clustering is one of the technique which is grouping the similar words of given word. In this paper, we proposed the korean language clustering technique that clusters the similar words by embedding the words using Word2Vec from the given documents.

  • In hashing-based methods for approximate nearest neighbors(ANN) search, by mapping data points to k-bit binary codes, nearest neighbors are searched in a binary embedding space. In this paper, we present a hashing method using a PCA-based clustering method, Principal Direction Divisive Partitioning(PDDP). PDDP is a clustering method which repeatedly partitions the cluster with the largest variance into two clusters by using the first principal direction. The proposed hashing method utilizes the first principal direction as a projective direction for binary coding. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method is competitive compared with other hashing methods.

  • We propose a practical privacy-preserving clustering protocol over horizontally partitioned data. We extend the DBSCAN clustering algorithm into a distributed protocol in which data providers mix real data with fake data to provide privacy. Our privacy-preserving clustering protocol is very efficient whereas the previous privacy-preserving protocols in the distributed environments are not practical to be used in real applications. The efficiency of our privacy-preserving clustering protocol over horizontally partitioned data is comparable with those of privacy-preserving clustering protocols in the non-distributed environments.

  • The fuzzy set theory has been wide used in clustering of machine learning with data mining since fuzzy theory has been introduced in 1960s. In particular, fuzzy C-means algorithm is a popular fuzzy clustering algorithm up to date. An element is assigned to any cluster with each membership value using fuzzy C-means algorithm. This algorithm is affected from the location of initial cluster center and the proper cluster size like a general clustering algorithm as K-means algorithm. This setting up for initial clustering is subjective. So, we get improper results according to circumstances. In this paper, we propose a cluster merging using enhanced density based fuzzy C-means clustering algorithm for solving this problem. Our algorithm determines initial cluster size and center using the properties of training data. Proposed algorithm uses grid for deciding initial cluster center and size. For experiments, objective machine learning data are used for performance comparison between our algorithm and others.

  • In this paper, we propose a mobile app clustering method using word clusters. Considering the quick change of mobile app trends, the proposed method divides the mobile apps into some semantically similar mobile apps by applying a clustering algorithm to the mobile app set, rather than the predefined category system. In order to alleviate the data sparseness problem in the short mobile app description texts, the proposed method additionally utilizes the unigram, the bigram, the trigram, the cluster of each word. For the purpose of accurately clustering mobile apps, the proposed method manages to avoid exceedingly small or large mobile app clusters by using the word clusters. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves 22.18% from 57.48% to 79.66% on overall accuracy by using the word clusters.

  • There are continuous and tremendous attempts to apply various sensor systems and ICTs into the dairy science for data accumulation and improvement of dairy productivity. However, these only concerns the fields which directly affect to the dairy productivity such as the number of individuals and the milk production amount, while researches on the physiology aspects of dairy cows are not enough which are fundamentally involved in the dairy productivity. This paper proposes the basic approach for extraction of daily behavior pattern from hourly behavioral data of dairy cows to identify the health status and stress. Total four clusters were grouped by k-means clustering and the reasonability was proved by visualization of the data in each groups and the representatives of each groups. We hope that provided results should lead to the further researches on catching abnormalities and disease signs of dairy cows.

  • In paper, we propose a 3D polygonal mesh simplification technique based on vertex clustering. The proposed method differentiates the size of each cluster according to the local property of a 3D object. We determine the size of clusters by considering the normal vector of triangles and the vertex distribution. The subdivisions of cluster are represented by octree. In this paper, we use the Harsdorff distance between the original mesh and the simplified one as a meaningful error value. Because proposed method adaptively determine the size of cluster according to the local property of the mesh, it has smaller error as compared with the previous methods and represent the small regions on detail. Also it can generate a multiresolution model and selectively refine the local regions.

  • Brain gene expression information is closely related to the structural and functional characteristics of the brain. Thus, extensive research has been carried out on the relationship between gene expression patterns and the brain's structural organization. In this study, Principal Component Analysis was used to extract features of gene expression patterns, and genes were automatically classified by spatial distribution. Voxels were then clustered with classified specific region expressed genes. Finally, we visualized the clustering results for mouse hippocampal region gene expression with the Allen Brain Atlas. This experiment allowed us to classify the region-specific gene expression of the mouse hippocampal region and provided visualization of clustering results and a brain atlas in an integrated manner. This study has the potential to allow neuroscientists to search for experimental groups of genes more quickly and design an effective test according to the new form of data. It is also expected that it will enable the discovery of a more specific sub-region beyond the current known anatomical regions of the brain.
