  • In this paper, we have developed a retrodirective active array operating in the 2 GHz LS band. The retrodirective array has the property of re-directing any electromagnetic wave back to the incoming direction without any priory informations. The system is consisted of frequency mixers and antenna array. The mixer is acting as a phase conjugator. In this research, 2-port gate mixers using pHEMT and 1${\times}$4 monopole array have been used. The retrodirective array developed in this research can be applied in the base station facilities for the wireless mobile communications and RFID transponders.

  • The curve shape of the time fluctuation extracted from the electromagnetic signals is very complex. Thus it is important to decide exactly the signal property such as the inflection point for the observed signal. Usually filters elaborately designed are used to detect the signal characteristics. When the noise is added to the signal, the inflection point can be detected using the observation filter. In this paper we propose the design method for a natural observation filter with optimal filter order to extract a definite inflection point for the case of signals with the mixed noise.

  • In this paper, we have developed a 2-port resistive frequency mixer for the retrodirective active array. The circuit topology is consisted of 2-port to avoid the complexity of LO and RF signal combination, using a pseudomorphic HEMT device. The operating frequencies are 4.0 GHz, 2.01 GHz, and 1.99 GHz for LO, RF, and IF, respectively. Conversion loss is measured to be -1㏈ and 1-㏈ compression point -15 ㏈m at the LO power of -10 ㏈m.

  • The system-on-board detectable and controllable the electrical fires due to ground fault(GF), arc fault and overload is implemented. The system IC for controlling and preventing the electrical fires is available to this system. The GF detection circuit for detecting the electrical leakage current, the arc fault detection circuit and the overload detection circuit controllable the input voltage for flowing the overload current are designed. The GF detection circuit and the arc fault detection circuit are good operated to the electrical leakage current and the arc signal, respectively. It is confirmed that the overload detection circuit has shown no erratic operation with the noise or the load variation and is only operated at the overload condition.

  • To study the fatigue properties of three type of foams for footwear midsole, polyurethane(PU), phylon(PH) and injection phylon(IP) foams were prepared with different hardnesses. Three types of foams were repetitively compressed for 50,000 cycles at 50 rpm. Cell shapes of foams were deformed with repetitive compression. The extent of cell deformation of IP was larger than those of PH and PU. Permanent strain of foam was made by repetitively compressing the foam, and the extent of IP was larger than those of PU and PH. Maximum compression forces of three types of the foams were decreased with the repetitive compression, and IP had the largest decrease in compression load of foam with compression. Decreases in maximum compression force of three types of foams were increased with increase of the hardness of foam.

  • To study the compressive stress, recovery force and permanent strain of foams for footwear midsole, polyurethane(PU), phylon(PH) and injection phylon(IP) foams were repetitively compressed with constant compressive stress. Maximum compressive stress of PU did not decrease with repetitive compression on the constant compressive stress, but that of IP largely decreased. Engineering strain of foams were formed by repetitively compressing the three types of foam. The engineering strain of PU was smaller than that of IP and PH. Compressive stress and recovery force of IP and PH at certain strain were decreased with repetitive compression, but that of PU was not noticeably changed.

  • Planar antennas are very efficient for the use of the out-door data transmission applications due to their low-profile characteristics. But the size of the antenna in UHF band blocks the practical usage. In this paper, a miniaturized planar antenna is investigated for the application of AMR system in UHF band. The designed antenna is fabricated in the form of the microstrip patch on the FR-4 substrate. The miniaturization is achieved by slot-loading on the patch. First, effects of simple slots on the size reduction are analyzed, followed by the design using more complex slots resulting in the reduction ratio of 37.9% in 425.6 MHz and bandwidth of 3.8 MHz. The effect of epoxy coating for the protection is also investigated.

The system is integrated with phase conjugators and antenna array. Microwave phase conjugators can be implemented by microwave mixers. In this research, 2-port gate mixers using pHEMT and $1{\times}4$ monopole array have been used to achieve the retrodirectivity. The measured results have been compared with the theoretical prediction, and it has been shown that there exists a reasonable agreement between them. The monopole array can be used easily in many areas for simplicity and cost-effective property, and the retrodirective array developed in this research can be applied directly in the base station facilities for the wireless mobile communications. indoor wireless LAN and RFID transponders.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze impact absorption function of midsole in cushioned marathon shoes. The foot is made up of a complex interaction of bones, ligaments, and muscles. These structures help the foot alternate between being a mobile, flexible adaptor and a stable rigid lever. The foot is broken down into two functional parts, the forefoot and the rearfoot. Cushioned marathon shoes for high arches have generous cushioning for efficient and high-mileage runners. Cushioned marathon shoes are made for feet that have high arches or no excessive motion and don't roll inward or roll outward. This condition is known as underpronation. Especially, Cushioned marathon shoes are designed to reduce shock and generally have the softest (or most cushioned) midsoles and the least medial support. They are usually built on a semicurved or curved last to encourage foot motion, which is helpful for underpronators (who have rigid, immobile feet). Cushioning marathon shoes recommended for the high-arched runner, whose foot may roll outward (supinate) rather than the natural slight inward roll, or whose feet may be relatively rigid. Cushioning shoes emphasize flexibility and usually are built on a curved or semicurved last to encourage a normal motion of the foot. Cushioning shoes usually offer no medial (inner foot) support. Cushioned marathon shoes have the single-density midsole, which is stable and relatively firm for a cushioned shoe, stays the same. But the forefoot is more rounded, and the rearfoot now includes a new and supportive rearfoot cradle. A foam midsole, perhaps with layers of different densities, to provide cushioning and shock absorption. EVA (ethylene vinyl acetate) and PU (polyurethane), the materials from which these foams usually are made. EVA is slightly softer than PU. EVA and PU may be layered together in a shoe, or a shoe may have more than one density of EVA.
