An Experimental Study on Flame Structure and Combustion Instability Characteristics in Model Gas Turbine Combustor (모형 가스터빈 연소기에서 화염구조와 연소불안정 특성에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • The present work addresses structural characteristics of natural gas flames in a lean premixed swirl-stabilized combustor with an attention focused on the effect of the formation of recirculation zones on the combustion instability. It is known that the recirculation zone plays an important role in stabilizing a turbulent, premixed natural gas flames by providing a source of heat or radicals to the incoming premixed fuel and air. To improve our understanding of the role of recirculation zones, the flame structure was investigated for various mixture velocities, equivalence ratios and swirl numbers. The optically accessible combustor allowed for the application of laser diagnostics, and Particle Image Velocimetry(PIV) measurements was used to characterize the flame structure under both cold flow conditions and hot flow conditions. Dynamic pressures were also measured to investigate characteristics of combustion at the same time. The results indicates that the formation of recirculation zone is strongly related to the occurrence of thermo-acoustic instabilities.

  • A swirler is a flame holding device generating recirculation regions in a gas turbine combustor, and the flow pattern due to a swirler has major effects on the flame distributions, combustion efficiency, and characteristics of exhaust gas. An experimental study for a counter-rotating swirler has been conducted to find out effects of the mass flow rate ratio of the inner/outer swirler flow area, the pressure difference between the swirler inlet and outlet, and the flare exit length ratio on the flow patterns in a model combustion chamber by using PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) technique.

Pulsatile Flow characteristics of Non-Newtonian fluid in the Stenosed Tubes (협착관내 비뉴턴유체의 맥유동특성)

  • 본 논문에서는 협착이 발생된 원관내 뉴턴유체와 비뉴턴유체의 정상 및 맥동유동특 서을 유한요소법으로 해석하였다. 본연구는 맥동유동특성에서 협착관 형상의 변화, 협착이 주기적으로 발생된 협착관에서 협착부사이의 거리와 협착부의 수가유동특성에 미치는 영향 을 검토하였다. 레이놀즈수가 일정할 때 협착이 발생된 원형관내 뉴턴유체와 비뉴턴유체의 맥동유동특성은 정상유동의 경우와 크게 다르게 나타난다. 맥동유동에서는 정상유동보다 관 중앙부에서 속도분포가 훨씬 평탄하고 맥동유동의 속도분포는 감속시에 비하여 가속시에 관 중앙부의 속도분포가 더 평탄하게 나타난다. 정상유동과 맥동유동으 감속시에서는 협착부 하류의 벽면에서 재순환영역이 발생된다. 협착부의 수가 증가하면 각 협착부 주위의 속도장 은 유사하게 나타나지만 전체 압력손실은 크게 증가한다. 협착부사이의 거리가 변화될 경우 맥동유동속도의 국소최대치와 국소최소치의 차이가 가속시에는 거의 없지만 감속시에는 협 착부사이의 거리에 따라 다르게 나타난다.

A RANS modeling of backward-facing step turbulent flow in an open channel (개수로에서의 후향단차 난류 흐름 RANS 수치모의)

  • The backward-facing step (BFS) is a benchmark geometry for analyzing flow separation occurred at the edge and resulting development of shear layer and recirculation zone that are occupied by turbulent flow. It is important to accurately reproduce and analyze the mean flow and turbulence statistics of such flows to design physically stable and performance assurance structure. We carried out 3D RANS computations with widely used, two representative turbulence models, k-ω SST and RNG k-ε, to reproduce BFS flow at the Reynolds number of 23,000 and the Froude number of 0.22. The performance of RANS computations is evaluated by comparing numerical results with an experimental measurement. Both RANS computations with two turbulence models appear to reasonably well reproduce mean flow in the shear layer and recirculation zone, while RNG k-ε computation results in about 5% larger velocity between the outer edge of boundary layer and the free surface above the recirculation zone than k-ω SST computation and experiment. Both turbulence models underestimate the shear stress distribution experimentally observed just downstream of the sharp edge of BFS, while shear stresses computed in the boundary layer downstream of reattachment point are agree reasonably well with experimental measurement. RNG k-ε modeling reproduces better shear stress distribution along the bottom boundary layer, but overestimates shear shear stress in the approaching boundary layer and above the bottom boundary layer downstream of the BFS.

  • Recently, the concern of groynes that provide us with various ecological environment and improvement of scenary near river as well as hydraulic improvement has greatly increased for naturalized river and ecological river restoration. However there is no adequate design guidelines in Korea. Furthermore there is lack of research for installation of groynes in Korea. Thus, in this study, we have conducted hydraulic modeling test for kinds of groyne and changes of permeability and made a study of the analysis for installation factor of groyne. Experimental conditions were the fixed bed model for flow pattern of groyne tip and separation length about changes of groyne length and permeability. The Experiments were conducted to measure velocity and drift angle at groyne tip. The main study kas measured the groyne tip velocity for a factor of scour and drift angle for velocity increase at center of channel. We have suggested the equation about groyne tip velocity rate(tip velocity/ approach velocity) and area rate(groyne area/ flow area). And In recirculation zone of groyne downstream, To study the basic data of groyne about installation interval has analyzed the change of separation length and incidence angle. We have suggested the equation about separation length rate(separation length/ groyne length), changes of permeability and installation angle.

The Effect of the Distance Between $CO_2$ Agent Nozzle and Wall ($CO_2$소화제 노즐과 벽간 거리의 영향)

  • We have conducted a numerical simulation under three-dimensional unsteady conditions in order to analyze the effect of flow and CO₂ mass transfer according to the distance between the CO₂ nozzle of CO₂ fire fighting system and the rear wall in a protection space. Flow fields and CO₂ concentration fields were measured. The different recirculation flow form and wall jet was developed according to increasing the distance between CO₂ nozzles and rear wall. In all the case, CO₂ mass transfer was generated toward the center of a protection space from each walls, but the CO₂ mass fraction of front and rear areas based on CO₂ nozzles showed higher or lower by increasing the distance between CO₂ nozzle and rear wall.

  • In this study, a scaled model chamber was built to investigate ventilation characteristics of the hood room in LNG carrier. Experimental study was performed in model by visualization equipment with laser apparatus. Four different kinds of measuring area were selected as experimental condition Instant simultaneous velocity vectors at whole field were measured by 2-D PIV system and its software adopting two-frame grey-level cross correlation algorithm. The flow pattern reveals the large scale counter-clockwise forced-vortex rotation at center area.

  • 수제는 비용 대비 높은 효율을 가지는 수공 구조물로 하천과 해안에 많이 이용된다. 수제는 하천에서 식생물의 서식처, 유량 확보, 하천시설 보호 등의 목적으로 설치되며 해안에서는 해안선보호, 수심 확보 등의 다양한 목적으로 설치된다. 수제는 일반적으로 넓은 영역을 제어할 수 있도록 여러개의 군수제 형태로 설치한다. 수제설치 시 기존 하도나 수로의 흐름에 교란이 일어나는데 본류부에서는 하폭이 좁아져 수제선단부에 의한 영향으로 높은 유속이 발생되며 수제역내에서는 재순환흐름과 함께 다양한 형태의 유속분포가 형성된다. 이러한 수제에 의한 흐름은 수제 선단부의 영향으로 발생하는 흐름분리선(Separation Layer)을 기준으로 흐름중심선(Talweg Line)과 흐름분리영역(Separation area)을 만들어내며 수제역내의 재순환영역에서 완화된 유속은 제방을 침식으로부터 보호하며 식생물의 서식처를 제공한다. 기존의 연구는 대부분 단일수제에 대한 연구가 수행되었으며 연속된 군수제에 대한 연구는 다소 제한된 조건에서 수행되었다. 이에 본 연구에서는 연속된 수제가 설치된 경우 수리실험을 통해 수제주변의 흐름 변화 특성을 분석하였다. 수리실험은 30.0m(L')×1.52m(B')×1.10m(H')의 직선 개수로에 050m(l)×0.10m(b)×0.25m(h)의 수제를 수로측면을 따라 연속적으로 배열하여 설치하였다. 실험은 수심, 유량, 수제설치간격을 변화시키면서 수행했으며 마그네틱유속계를 사용해서 수제의 영향을 받지 않으며 벽면의 영향이 가장 적은 수로상류의 중앙지점에서 접근유속을 측정했다. 표면유속을 취득하기 위해 일반디지털카메라로 FHD(1920×1080) 해상도를 가진 영상을 각각의 조건마다 10~20분 촬영했다. 촬영된 영상을 연속된 정지영상으로 변환하고 영상해석 프로그램을 이용하여 표면유속을 도출했다. 표면영상유속계를 활용하여 도출한 결과로 각각 조건에 따라 발생하는 최대유속과 최대역방향유속, 와도(vorticity), 흐름중심선과 단면유속분포의 변화와 발생 위치를 분석했다.
