Vitamin C and Mineral Contents in Perilla Leaves by Leaf age and Storage Conditions (깻잎의 엽령 및 저장에 따른 비타민 C와 무기질 함량)

  • In this study, the differences in the contents of vitamin C and minerals in perilla leaves were compared according to the age of leaf and storage conditions. The content of vitamin C in perilla leaves the younger the perilla leaves, the higher the content of vitamin C: Vitamin C content of mature leaf at the lowest part of the stem was 63.7mg/100g, and that of young leaf at the top of the stem was 129.0mg/100g. However, the contents of Ca and Fe by the leaf age were in an opposite tendency with vitamin C: Ca content of the leaves at the lowest and the top part of the stem were 449.4 mg and 311.8mg/100g, respectively. But, the contents of Na and Mg were poor in mature leaf, and the content of K showed no particular difference according to leaf age. When stored at 5$^{\circ}C$, residual rate of vitamin C content was 92.56, 81.52 and 77.05%, after stored 1, 5 and 10 days, respectively. In the case of 20$^{\circ}C$, residual rate of vitamin C was 85.80, 79.90 and 72.53%, respectively. When stored at 5$^{\circ}C$, Ca content in perilla leaves was in the range of 348.93∼408.81mg/100g, and at 20$^{\circ}C$, the content of Ca was 360.26∼392.25mg/100g. Storage time and temperature did not make a significant difference in the mineral content of perilla leaves.

포도 ‘켐벨얼리’의 예냉 및 저온 유통 기술 연구

  • 포도 중 캠벨얼리 품종은 색이 검붉고 당도가 높아 우리나라 대표적인 품종 중에 하나로 알려져있다. 그러나 수확 후 저장 유통 중 품질이 저하되기 쉽다. 따라서 예냉 조건 및 수송, 저장, 유통조건에 따른 품질조사를 비교실험하여 가장 안전한 저장 유통 방법을 개발하고자 하였다. 실험재료는 2003년 8월20일경에 포도 주산지인 영천 농가에서 수화 한 후 바로 예냉처리를 하였다. 이때 사용한 예냉기는 원예연구소에서 개발한 시제작품을 사용하였다. 대조구로 무예냉을 두었으며 예냉 후 수송온도도 관행적인 상온과 저온(2$^{\circ}C$)로 구분 처리하였으며 저온온도별로도 함께 실험하였다. 포장단위도 2kg 와 5kg로 각각 처리하여 수행하였다. 예냉이 품질에 미치는 영향을 조사하기 위하여 예냉처리에 따른 호흡패턴 변화와 이화학적 특성변화를 조사하였다. 또한 저장 중 중량감소율, 부패율 및 탈립율을 조사하였다. 포도 ‘켐벨얼리’의 수확 시 품온 29.5$^{\circ}C$를 적정 저장 온도인 2$^{\circ}C$로 저하시키는데 일반 저온 저장고에서 10시간 정도 걸리는 데 반하여 차압예냉기 이용시 3시간으로 단축시킬 수 있었으며 예냉 포도의 처리구별 호흡량은 초기 6.65$m\ell$/kg/hr 였으나 상온무예냉 및 예냉 처리구의 경우에는 저장해가면서 급격히 증가되었고 저온에서는 무예냉의 경우에는 계속 증가되는 반면 예냉 처리구의 경우에는 포장 규격과는 상관없이 다른 처리구 보다 호흡억제 효과가 있었다. Ethylene 발생량 역시 호흡과 비슷한 경향을 보여 주어 예냉 시 과실의 품질 저하 요인 발생량을 억제시킬 수 있었다. 경도는 저장 기간이 경과됨에 감소되나 저온 예냉 처리구의 경우가 초기 1.26N을 높게 유지하였고 자연중량 감모율은 상온저장 2주째 무예냉처리구 8.40%로 감소된데 비하여 예냉 저온 수송 구의 경우에는 0.25%로 매우 낮았다. 포도 ‘켐벨얼리’의 저온 저장중 부패율은 저장 2주째 상온 무예냉 처리구의 경우 19.8%이었으나 저온 예냉 처리구의 경우는 부패과가 발생하지 않았고 탈립율 역시 상온무예냉처리구의 경우 53.5%인데 반하여 저온 예냉 처리구는 저장 4주경과 시까지 탈림과가 없었다. 당도 및 pH변화 역시 차압 예냉 후 저온 수송 처리구가 초기당도(12.0Bx)$^{\circ}$값과 초기 pH(3.8)를 저장 25일 경과시까지 유지하였다. 수확 시 높은 품온을 갖고 있는 과일을 산지에서 예냉 처리를 한 후 저온 냉장차를 이용하여 유통한다면 관행 유통 구조보다 고품질의 포도를 유통시킬 수 있는 것으로 사료되며 앞으로는 완숙된 고 당도(12.0~15.0Bx)$^{\circ}$ 포도를 수확 한 즉시 예냉 처리하고 저온 유통한다면 보다 신선한 과일을 소비자에게 전달 할 수 있을 것이다.

Effects of Heat Treatment on the Characteristics of Royal Paulownia (Paulownia tomentosa (Thunb.) Steud.) Wood Grown in Korea (국산 참오동나무재의 열처리 특성)

  • Effects of heat treatment on the characteristics of Royal paulownia (Paulownia tometosa) wood were investigated. The results were compared with those of Suwon silver poplar (Populus tementiglandulosa) and Korean red pine (Pinus densiflora) woods. The wood samples of the three species were treated at $160^{\circ}C$, $180^{\circ}C$, $200^{\circ}C$ and $220^{\circ}C$ in an electric furnace for 2 hours. The changes of color, density, mass loss, and relative crystallinity were investigated before and after heat treatment. The lightness ($L^*$) decreased rapidly from $200^{\circ}C$ in all species. There were no change in red-green chromaticity($a^*$) and yellow-blue chromaticity($b^*$) of Royal paulownia and poplar woods with increasing temperature. Whereas, yellow-blue chromaticity($b^*$) of Korean red pine wood decreased sharply from $200^{\circ}C$. Royal paulownia wood showed appreciable color change(${\Delta}E^*$) after heat treatment above $180^{\circ}C$. Poplar and pine woods, however, presented significant color change from $160^{\circ}C$. Color change of the three wood species increased rapidly with increasing temperature. Mass loss of the three wood species by heat treatment was the highest in the Royal paulownia wood and the lowest in the pine wood. Mass loss and relative crystallinity increased and density decreased slightly with increasing temperature. Consequently, it is revealed that Royal paulownia wood showed considerable differences in the temperature of color change, weight loss and change of relative crystallinity compared to the other wood species.

Effects of Grapefruit Seed Extract and An ion Solution on Keeping Quality of Mungbean Sprouts (자몽종자추출물과 은이온 용액이 숙주나물의 저장품질에 미치는 영향)

  • Effects of grapefruit seed extract and Ag ion solution on the keeping quality and shelf life of mungbean sprouts were investigated in terms of weight loss, gas composition, hardness, color, ascorbic acid content, and viable cell counts during storage. Packages with $30\;{\mu}m$ polypropylene(PP) film was applied for mungbean sprouts dipped in Ag ion solution, 50 ppm and 100 ppm GFSE, 50 ppm and 100 ppm GFSE in Ag ion solution and stored $5^{\circ}C$. Totally weight loss exceeded $1\%$ and no visible signs of shrivelling of mungbean sprouts were observed. GFSE in Ag ion solution treatment, resulting in mungbean sprouts of better visual quality, weight loss, color, ascorbic acid as compared to the control without dipping. A shelf life of 6 days was achieved with 100 ppm GFSE in Ag ion solution treatment.

Quality Characteristics of Cherry Tomatoes Packaged with Paper Bag Incorporated with Antimicrobial Agents (항균소재를 함유한 포장재에 의한 방울토마토의 저장중 품질 특성 변화)

  • In order to help the preservation of the cherry tomatoes, antimicrobial paper incorporating grapefruit seed extract and zeolite was applied to packaging fruits. The fruits were packed with a paper bag of 15.5${\times}$24 cm and then stored at 1$0^{\circ}C$. During the storage, weight loss, pH, total acidity, soluble solid content, microbial load and decay were measured as quality indices. Steady weight loss due to the transpiration was observed to slightly increase the solid content during the storage with little difference between the packaging treatments. There were little change in pH and acidity of the stored fruits. The microbial loads of total aerobic bacteria, and yeast/mold counts were significantly suppressed during 10 day storage by the antimicrobial paper packaging, which also contributed to reducing the decayed fruits observed after 15 days.

Differences in Growth and Photosynthesis among Three Half-sib Families of Betula schmidtii in Response to Cd Treatment (카드뮴 처리에 대한 박달나무의 가계간 생장과 광합성 차이)

  • The objective of this study was to understand differences among three half-sib families of Betula schmidtii seedlings in the effect of three Cd levels on growth and photosynthesis. One-year-old seedlings of B. schmidtii were treated with 0, 0.4 and 0.8 mM CdSO$_4$ㆍ8/3$H_2O$ for two months. Growth and physiological responses to Cd treatment levels of three families determined using dry weight, relative height growth rate(RHGR), apparent quantum yield and carboxylation efficiency. The B. schmidtii seedlings exposed to 0.4 and 0.8 mM Cd showed statisticall significant decrease in dry weight and RHGR relative to controls. In addition, the growth inhibition of B. schmidtii seedlings was accompanied by a significant decrease in net photosynthesis measured as $CO_2$ assimilation. Apparent quantum yield and carboxylation efficiency were also affected by Cd treatment, undergoing a significant and progressive reduction with increasing Cd concentrations in all families. We also found significant difference among three families of B. schmidtii in growth, biomass and photosynthesis when exposed to Cd stress. Therefore the present study showed that the difference in Cd tolerance among families might be attributed to genetic factor in response to Cd stress.

Preparation of Poly(butyl methacrylate) Composite Beads containing Carbon Black by Suspension Polymerization (현탁중합법에 의한 카본블랙을 함유하는 폴리뷰틸메타크릴레이트 복합체 입자의 합성)

  • Suspension polymerization was carried out to synthesize poly(butyl methacrylate) (PBMA) composite particles containing carbon black. Water was selected as a reaction medium, hydrophobic silica as a stabilizer and azobisisobutyronitrile as an initiator. Concentration of stabilizer was varied from 0.67 to 2.55 weight% with respect to the water, and that of initiator was varied from 0.25 to 3.00 weight% with respect to the butyl methacrylate (BMA) monomer. All polymerization reactions were conducted at 75$^{\circ}C$. It is found that stabilizer concentration has no impact on reaction kinetics, while an increase in initiator concentration enhances polymerization reaction rate. Increase of carbon black concentration from 1 to 3 to 5 wt% into PBMA displayed progressive decrease in reaction conversion. The particle diameter of PBMA composite particles containing carbon black was found to be between 5 and 30 ${\mu}m$. Glass transition was determined to range from 23.8 to 24.7$^{\circ}C$, irrespective of variation in the concentration of stabilizer, initiator or carbon black.

Effect of Polypropylene Film Package and Storage Temperature on the Shelf-life Extension of Spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) (시금치 포장 및 보관온도가 품질보존에 미치는 영향)

  • To extend the shelf-life of spinach after harvest, we investigated the effect of various packaging methods and storage temperature. In case of polypropylene film package, there was no weight loss, but in non-package, remarkably weight loss occurred as storage period extended and storage temperature risen. Content of vitamin C was decreased rapidly at early stage of storage, and decrease of vitamin C in low temperature storage was lower than that of room temperature storage, but its large difference according to packaging method was not observed. In hunter's value on spinach, b value in room temperature storage was higher than that of low temperature storage. In terms of freshness, shelf-life of spinach by low temperature storage $(1{\sim}3^{\circ}C)$ after PP film packaging lasted 34 days, and that by room temperature storage $(10{\sim}15^{\circ}C)$ after PP film packaging lasted 8 days, but that by room temperature storage after non-packaging lasted 3 days.

Properties of Clay-Woodceramics from 3 layers-clay-woodparticleboard (점토목재파티클보드로 제조된 Clay-Woodceramics의 성질)

  • This research was carried out to examine physical and mechanical properties of clay-woodceramics which were carbonized for 3 hours in a special furnace from 3 layers-clay-woodparticleboard made from pallet waste wood, phenol formaldehyde resin(hereafter PF, Non volatile content 52%, resin content 30%) and clay(10%, 20% and 30%). Carbonization temperature was 400℃, 600℃ and 800℃. The results are summarized as follows: 1. The higher the carbonization temperature, the higher the dimensional shrinkage and the lower the carbonization yield ratio. But the higher the clay addition, the lower the dimensional shrinkage and the higher carbonization yield ratio. 2. The higher the carbonization temperature, the higher the water absorption and the density. The higher the clay content, the higher the density. 3. The higher the carbonization temperature, the higher the bending Modulus of Rupture and bending Modulus of Elasticity.

Stress History of a Bridge Estimated from Statistical Analysis of Traffic Bow (교통류의 통계적 해석으로부터 추정한 교량의 응력이력)

  • The stress history of a bridge is different depending on the characteristic of traffic flow. Because the flow is varied with vehicle type, weight and headway time etc., statistical analysis in bridges is necessary to estimate the history by traffic flow. By applying the statistical analyses in fracture mechanics, the remaining service life of the structure can be estimated. In this paper, 1)the statistical analysis of vehicle type, weight and headway time etc. to analysis randomness of traffic flow, 2)measuring and analysis of stress history of a real bridge, 3)reappearance of stress history by Monte-Carlo Simulation using constitution ratio of vehicle type, weight and headway time as probabilitic variable, 4)comparision of the calculated and modelled stress history, 5)calculation of reduction factor, 6)comparision of frequency of stress range depending on span length etc. were performed. From the results, the basic modelled stress history which is necessary for the method of estimation of the remaining service life of the structure could be suggested.
