  • The purpose of this study was a descriptive research that identified the levels of health-promoting behaviors, previous related behavior, perceived benefits/barriers, self-efficacy, and social support. In addition, it was to establish the relations among the variables, and determine the factors affecting the health-promoting behaviors. Study participants were 311 middle aged between 55-64 in urban areas, and the data were collected through self-reported structured questionnair. According to the results, the mean score for the levels of health-promoting behaviors of the late middle aged was 2.64. Also, among the variables related to health-promoting behaviors, perceived benefits were the highest score (30.7), and perceived barriers were the lowest one (2.08). Meaningful positive correlations were found among health-promoting behaviors and previous related behavior, social support, perceived benefits, and self-efficacy, but perceived barriers showed weakly negative correlations. In addition, the factors affecting health promoting behaviors were revealed in order as following: Previous health related behavior(${\beta}$=.35, p<.001), perceived benefits(${\beta}$=.32, p<.001), social support(${\beta}$=.28, p<.001), and life satisfaction(${\beta}$=.13, p<.001), and this model's explanatory power was 68.8%(F=166.71, p<.001). Based on the findings from the study, in order for the late middle aged to have a well-being old age, an health promoting education program including exercises and stress management should be provided to maintain and improve proper health promoting behaviors. The network with the same age groups also should be supported to share useful information and back up one another.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between craniovertebral angle(CVA), age, and body mass index(BMI) in middle-aged people in their 40s and 50s. The forward head posture(FHP) was measured using a posture measuring device using a 3D sensor for 456 healthy men and women. As a result of the study, the middle-aged CVA had a high level of negative correlation with age (r=-.937; p<.01) and a very low level of positive correlation with BMI (r=.071). CVA of middle-aged men had a high negative correlation with age (r=-.932; p<.01) and a very low positive correlation with BMI. There was a correlation (r=.056), whereas, for middle-aged women, there was a high level of negative correlation (r=.939, p<.01) only with age, but had a weak (low level of negative) correlation with BMI. This study suggests that CVA has a significant negative correlation with age in both males and females however, has a weak relationship with BMI.

  • This study examined the sexual function, sexual distress, and quality of life of middle-aged women with osteoarthritis, as well as the factors influencing the quality of life. The participants were 121 middle-aged women who have been suffering osteoarthritis. Data collection was conducted from September 1 to October 31, 2019. The instruments were the Female Sexual Distress Scale (FSDS), the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI), and the World Health Organization Quality of Life Assessment Instrument (WHOQLO) -BREF scale. Data were collected with structured questionnaires and analyzed using a t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. A positive correlation was observed between sexual function and quality of life, whereas sexual distress had a negative correlation between sexual function and the quality of life. Factors affecting the quality of life of middle-aged women with osteoarthritis were sexual function, sexual distress, which explained 16.1%. Sexual distress, sexual function, and quality of life showed a correlation. Therefore, it is important to develop a nursing intervention that can improve the sexual function and reduce the sexual distress of middle-aged women with osteoarthritis to improve their quality of life.

  • This study is a comparative descriptive research that identifies the degree and difference of the brain education meditation program from participation stress(physical stress, psychological stress), depression, resilience(self-control ability, interpersonal relationship ability, and positive) for middle-aged women. The subjects were 26 middle-aged women who participated in the brain education meditation program at the D metropolitan city D center for more than a year, 29 middle-aged women did not participate in the brain education meditation program and a total of 55 middle-aged women collected for three weeks from November 4 to 22, 2019. Data analysis fesult that the participating groups in brain education meditation programs differ statistically significantly in physical stress(t=2.549, p=.014), psychological stress(t=2.352, p=.022), self-control ability(t=-2.219, p=.031) and positive(t=-2.387, p=.021), which are higher factors in resilience than non-participating groups. In other words, brain education meditation program participants scored lower physical and psychological stress scores than nonparticipating groups, with higher self-control ability and positive scores. Therefore, it is thought that brain education meditation programs can be used as nursing intervention to reduce stress and improve self-control ability and positive in middle-aged women.

  • This study was attempted to identify factors for managing hyperlipidemia in middle-aged adults. The research method is a secondary analysis study analyzing the 2018 data from the Korean Medical Panel Survey. The subjects of the study were 622 adults aged between 40 and 65 who were diagnosed with hyperlipidemia. As a result of the study, it was found that there was a correlation between the level of education and the presence or absence of hyperlipidemia management (𝒳2= 7.285, p = .026), and that there was a correlation between the subject's subjective health status and the presence or absence of hyperlipidemia management (𝒳2= 7.295, p =.026). Middle age is a time when the physical aging process begins in earnest, and there is a high possibility of developing chronic diseases, and hyperlipidemia is an early disease that causes chronic diseases. Accordingly, active health management is necessary, and in particular, the development of differentiated programs for hyperlipidemia management tailored to the subject's education level and health status is required.

  • This research is a descriptive study that aimed to identify the health knowledge and optimistic bias related to stroke of middle-aged adults and the effect these had on their health-promoting lifestyle. The research was conducted from July 15 to August 15, 2015. The research subjects were 191 adults aged between 40 to 60 years. A structured questionnaire was used and self-administered for data collection. The PASW Statistics 21.0 and AMOS 21.0 programs were used for data analysis, and analysis of variance, correlation analysis, and structural equation modeling analysis were conducted. It was found that the middle-aged adults recognized smoking and hypertension as higher risk factors for stroke than diabetes, and there was a slight optimistic bias for stroke. Health knowledge about stroke had correlations with optimistic bias (r = -.143, p = .048) and health-promoting lifestyle (r = .268, p = < .001), while optimistic bias had correlations with interpersonal relationships and stress (r = .177, p = .014) in health-promoting lifestyle. In addition, health-promoting lifestyle affected health knowledge more than optimistic bias. In conclusion, it was found that the active information acquisition, health knowledge, and optimistic bias of middle-aged adults toward stroke were important factors pertaining to a stroke-related health-promoting lifestyle. Therefore, an education program to improve the health-promoting lifestyle related to stroke in middle-aged adults should be considered as a way to enhance stroke-related health knowledge and reduce optimistic bias.
