  • This study aimed to verify the mediating effect of locus of control on the relationship between materialism and well-being of middle-aged woman. For the study, the survey of 239 middle-aged women in B, C, D city was used. As a scale, a Richins & Dawson(1992)'s widely-used materialism scale, the Levenson(1981)'s locus of scale, Watson, Clark & Tellegen(1988)'s positive and negative affect scale (PANAS) and Ryff(1989)'s psychological well-being scale(PWBS) were used. The survey data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, reliability, correlation and the mediating effect was verified by Baron & Kenny (1986)'s 3 step using SPSS 23 and sobel test. Mediating analysis indicated that the significant relationships between materialism and affective well-being and psychological well-being were reduced significantly when the external locus of control was statistically controlled. Results are meaningful with respect to overcome materialism of middle-aged woman and in the relation to other research that has explored reasons why materialism is related to lower level of affective well-being & psychological well-being.

Data were collected using questionnaires from 412 middle-aged parents of university student. There were significant differences in PCHC and quality of life according to educational level, family support, monthly income, exercise over 3times a week, subjective health status. However, religion and drinking made a differece only in PCHC on the other hand, sex and disease affected quality of life. All subdomains of PCHC had significant positive correlations with quality of life. Factors predicting quality of life among subdomains of PCHC were health perception, sociocultural relationship and socioeconomical involvement, which explained about 50.3%. These results indicate a need to develop programs to improve health perception, sociocultural and socioeconomical competence for middle-aged adults.

The results were as follows. First, hiearchical multiple regression analysis showed that education level, couples' problems, replanning strategies were proved to be significant for the marital satisfaction of the husbands, while age, couples' problems, acceptance strategies were significant for the marital satisfaction of the wives. Second, cognitive emotion-regulation strategies were proved to partially mediate in the relationship between family stress and marital satisfaction. The limitations of the study and implications for the further research were discussed based on the results.

  • This study aimed to provide basic data on health promotion programs to prevent cardiocerebrovascular Disease by identifying knowledge, attitude and self-efficacy. Data were collected from 198 middle-aged adults in S-city. The data analysis was analyzed with technical statistics and t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient. There were significant differences in knowledge depending on the age, education level, monthly income and there were significant differences in attitude depending on the education level and monthly income. There were also significant differences in self-efficacy between gender. The correlation analysis also showed a significant correlation between knowledge of cardiovascular disease and attitudes toward prevention(t=.45, p<.001). In other words, the higher your knowledge of cardiovascular disease, the more positive you are about preventing it. Therefore, it is necessary to develop education and mediation programs that can form a positive attitude toward preventing cardiocerebrovascular disease and to develop programs that enhance the self-efficacy of middle-aged men.
