In order to investigate the degree of apartment parking lot dust contamination, total 72 samples of parking lot dust (36 from ground parking lots and 36 from the underground parking lots) were collected in Daegu city from the end of March to the early June 2010. The dust samples were sieved below $100{\mu}m$, and analysed by ICP for 14 elements after an acid extraction. Results obtained from the source assessment of trace element using enrichment factor showed that Fe, K, Mg, Mn, Na and V were influenced by natural sources, while Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn were influenced by anthropogenic sources in both the ground parking lot and the underground parking lot. And results showed that Ca were influenced by natural sources in the ground parking lot, but influenced by anthropogenic sources in the underground parking lot. The measured values were remarkably higher in components from natural sources than in components from anthropogenic sources. Underground parking lot dust was more affected by anthropogenic sources and contaminated compared with the ground parking lot dust. Pollution index of heavy metals revealed that underground parking lot dust was 5.5 times more contaminated with heavy metal components than the ground parking lot dust. The results of correlation analysis among trace elements indicated that components in the ground parking lot were more correlated than those in the underground parking lot, and especially more correlated with natural sources-natural sources. Analysis for correlations between components and influencing factors in the underground parking lot showed that concentrations of heavy metals were higher with smaller number of parking spaces and no ventilation system, and older apartments in last paint and cleaning had relatively higher contents of heavy metals than those of recently painted and cleaned.
The safety of animal feed was evaluated by analyzing the levels of heavy metals (Pb, Cr, Cd, As, Se and Ag) in cattle, swine, and poultry feeds and the levels of Cu, Zn and P in swine feed. Feeds used in the analysis were produced in Korea from 2004 through the first half of 2007. The results of the study revealed that, with the exception of Cd, the concentration of heavy metals were much lower than the Minimum Regulation Levels (MRLs). However, the Cd concentration exceeded the MRL in 1 of 987 swine feed samples in 2005, as well as in 4 of 1,239 swine feed samples and 1 of 778 poultry feed samples in 2006. The levels of Cu, Zn and P in swine feed were compared with the swine breeding standard. The results of this analysis revealed that the Cu concentrations in the samples exceeded the MRL for growing pigs by 0.97%, and that for finishing and breeding pigs by 9.9%. In addition, the Cu levels (80.98 ppm for piglet, 44.82 ppm for growing pigs, 19 ppm for finishing and breeding pigs) in swine feed showed higher levels compared to 3.5-6.0 ppm, which is the Cu requirement for swine. Furthermore, the results of the Zn analysis revealed that the samples exceeded the MRL for piglets, growing pigs, and finishing and breeding pigs by 5.7%, 7.7%, and 9.3%, respectively. Finally, the average concentration of P in swine feed was 0.74%, which is almost the same as the phosphate requirement for swine.
Studies of non-point pollutant treatment facilities have widely been conducted for a decade, but natural non-point pollutant treatment facilities implemented on roads have not been carried out for the removal efficiency of non-point pollution sources. This study analyzed the removal efficiency of non-point pollution sources from constructed wetlands using monitoring and event mean concentration method. As a result of this study, removal efficiency of general non-point pollution sources as TSS, COD, BOD is relatively good, but removal efficiency of TN, TP, Cr, Zn, Pb is very small or nothing.
Blood soil and the mixture of blood soil, elvan soil and, silica soil materials were molded, then they were sintered in $1100^{\circ}C$ and were used for the emission of the far infrared ray boll. The emission from the manufactured bolls was relatively high in the range of $8{\sim}12{\mu}m$ wavelength each. The elution of minerals from mixture bolls was very low, but the elimination of heavy metal cadmium ion in activated water and energy water treated with mixture bolls was very high. Activated water and energy water had a high to the UV protected ability in comparison to drinking water.
This paper describes a effect of nano-bubble on removal of complex heavy metals, in order to remove pollutants of soil with copper (Cu) and lead (Pb) based on column test. It was conducted column test considering inflow and fine soil contents condition, and then it was analyzed removal effect of nano-bubble on Cu and Cu/Pb. The test result showed that the removal effect of the nano-bubble was higher than that of distilled water regardless of fine soil contents in case of Cu pollutant, and the removal effect of nano-bubble on heavy metals was found to have a significant impact on Pb than Cu in case of Cu/Pb pollutants. It was also analyzed that engineering properties (like a flow path and permeability) of soil due to void ratio has influenced a significant impact the pollutants removal of nano-bubble. The test results determined that nano-bubble can be applied as a flushing agent for priority target pollutant in complex heavy metals.

The bone of spinal animals has a hydroxylapatite ($Ca_{10}(PO_4)_6(OH)_2$, HAp) structure which is well known as an excellent inorganic ion exchanger for various heavy metal ions in solutions. In this study, the reusability of cow-bone, pig-bone and fish-bone as a potential material for the removal of heavy metals in solutions was evaluated from the removal of Cu(II) ion in batch tests. The surface properties of three bones, calcined at different temperatures, were measured with SEM, XRD, FT-IR analyses. From the SEM analysis, a clear development of heterogeneity as well as pores having small diameter was observed as the calcination temperature increased. The results of X-ray diffraction analysis showed well developed crystallinity on the surface of calcined bones obtained at higher temperatures, suggesting a transform of amorphous type to crystalline type. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) analysis showed disappearance of water molecule on the surface of HAp and organic functional groups of the HAp with increasing the calcination temperatures. Cu(II) removal in the control test was below 15%. By the way, additional 40% increase of Cu(II) removal was observed in the presence of calcined bones. For three bones, Cu(II) removal was decreased as the calcined temperature increased. Cu(II) removal was increased as the solution pH increased due to a favorable condition for the cation exchange as well as precipitation.

The urban is possessing of various landuses such as commercial, industrial, residential and official areas. All of these landuses is including the paved areas that are roads and parking lots. The NPS (nonpoint sources) pollutants are generally originated from pavement areas in urban by human activities. Especially the roads are stormwater intensive landuses because of high vehicle activities and high imperviousness. The main NPS pollutants from roads are particulates and metals from vehicles and pavements. The Korea MOE (Ministry of Environment) is developing the NPS control program to reduce the NPS pollutants from the basins. However, it is not easy to control the NPS because it has high uncertainty by characteristics of rainfalls and watersheds. Therefore, this research was conducted on characterizing the runoff and providing mean EMC from roads. The monitoring were performed for total 16 rainfall events from a road in Youngin City since 2006. The results show that the TSS is highly correlated with other pollutant parameters. The statistical regression models using TSS EMC have been developed to easily determine the EMC of other pollutant parameters.

Response surface methodology(RSM) was applied to monitor the elimination rate of heavy metals(Pb, Cd) and soluble solids depending on the steaming and roasting conditions of Polygonatum odoratum roots. Experiments of 16 different steaming and roasting conditions based on a central composite design for steaming time($60{\sim}180$ min), roasting temperature($110{\sim}150^{\circ}C$), and roasting time($10{\sim}50$ min) were conducted, thereby predicting the steaming and roasting conditions for the maximal responses; soluble solids($71.47\%$) at 65.24 min, $126.93^{\circ}C$ and 37.58 min; Pb removal rate($18.87\%$) at 71.23 min, $119.81^{\circ}C$ and 24.35 min; Cd removal rate($50,85\%$) at 160.89 min, $126.43^{\circ}C$ and 15.81 min, respectively. The optimum conditions estimated by RSM for the maximized values of soluble solids and heavy metal elimination rates were $165{\sim}180$ min of steaming time, $120{\sim}135^{\circ}C$ of roasting temperature, and $30{\sim}45$ min of roasting time, respectively. These estimated values were in agreement with those measured by real experiments.
According to the element analysis of Korean Quartz Porphyry, the ignition loss related to porosity was 7.03, 3.36, 2.09 and 0.73% in the order of Suanbo, Yeachen, Angang and Kyongsan. Extraction of minerals in deionized water and elimination effect of heavy metals in water by Quartz Porphyry were examined. When the Quartz Porphyry of the Suanbo, Yeachen of 0.5~2.0% concentration and the Quartz Porphyry of the Angang of 1.5% concentration were immersed and stirred in deionized water for 3 hours at 180rpm, various minerals concentration of the all stirred water were suitable for potable water. But Quartz Porphyry of the Yeachen was not suitable for potable water because of excess extraction of iron. The elimination rate of lead in single solution was 99% by Quartz Porphyry of the Suanbo, Yeachen and Angang of 3% concentration, Cadmium by Quartz Porphyry of the Suanbo of 7% concentration was eliminated about 98% in 1 hour. The copper was significantly eliminated in Quartz Porphyry of low concentration. Especially in Quartz Porphyry of Angang at 0.4% concentration, the rate of ion exchange was 99% in 4 hours. But elimination effect of arsenic in water by Korean Quartz Porphyry was very low.
In order to choose a suitable soil extractant for the prediction model of heavy metal content in brown rice, four extractants-0.1 M HCl, 0.1 M $HNO_3$, 0.1 M $NH_4$-oxalate and 0.001 M 2Na-EDTA, were compared by analyzing 84 soil and 45 brown rice samples collected from paddy fields adj-acent to five old zinc-mining sites. Content of cadmium and zinc in brown rice had the highest correlation coefficient to 0.001 M 2Na-EDTA and 0.1 M HCl extractants, respectively. However, the lead content in brown rice was significantly correlated with only 0.1 M $NH_4$oxalate solution. For the simultaneous prediction of zinc, cadmium and lead in brown rice, 0.1 M $NH_4$-oxalate solution was the most effective. On the multiple analysis by using various chemical characteristics of soils, pH and calcium content of soils were effective variables for the estimation of cadmium content in brown rice, while CEC and magnesium content were more effective for the estimation of zinc content in brown rice. Furthermore, for the estimation of lead content in brown rice, factors such as pH, CEC, calcium, magnesium, potassium and organic matter content were important variables in the multiple regression equation.
