  • I analyze orange that is consistently used, even though not consciously, in the films whose function and meaning are clear. In detail, there are examples of color in films, psychological phenomena of colors expressed in posters and opening titles, color characteristics of clothes and costumes, and semiotic analysis of color names in film titles. (1) Fact and Truth; civilization and criticism. The film tries to tell the truth than the fact. It represents facts as it is, but it presupposes truth. This is a unique characteristic of media films. The truth of the fact is not important. The film tells the truth believing and wanting to show off. The film, which has inherent characteristics of the gap between fact and truth, represents nature and civilization. It carries nature as it is and criticizes the harm of civilization. Orange is nature and civilization. Realistic films such as Hong Sang Soo and Kim Ki Duk, fall into this category. For example, there are A Taxi Driver(2017) and I Can Speak(2017). (2) Virtual History; fake images and memories. In Hollywood SF genres like The Matrix(1999), orange was dealt with virtual reality. However, in Korean films they are replaced by historical dramas. The representation of history becomes a virtual reality. Films such as The Fortress(2017), Masquerade(2012), and Roaring Currents(2014) deal with virtual history. In these films, orange is a fake image and memory. (3) Light=color; Aura. The color and light of orange is aura. At sunrise and sunset, the orange of the incandescent light is almost similar to that of the artificial light. Orange of tungsten makes the real characters surrealistic and mysterious. For example, there are The City of Madness(2016), The Man from Nowhere(2010), and Coinlocker Girl(2014). (4) Fantasy; communication with other worlds. Orange is a sweet fantasy. In our daily life, we go to a supermarket, share a chat with friends in a coffee shop, and spend time in front of a television. Orange makes our life free and dreams. It is the communication between the former being and the other world. This can be found in the sexual fantasy scenes of all genres. For example, there are Sunny(2011), Welcome To Dongmakgol(2005), and 200 Pounds Beauty(2006).

  • Host plants or Ectinohoplia rufipes (Motschulsky) (En) were investigated in golf courses and laboratory. E. rufipes adults fed on 61 plant species of 27 families out of 101 plant species of 41 families supplied in laboratory. In addition, twenty-seven plant species in 8 families were observed to be fed on from golf courses. Thus, total number of host plants of E. rufipes were 84 species in 29 families. E. rufipes adults preferred Japanese green alder (Alnus firma) , cherry apple (Malus sieholdii), cherry (Prunus serrulata var. spontanea) and sweet oliver (Osmantus asiaticus) in golf courses . The preference of E. rufipes adults with A. firma , P. serrulata vu. spontanea and O. asiaticus was bioassayed in laboratory. E. rufies adults preferred A. firma consuming 58.1% to O. asiaticus and p. serrulata vats. spontanea. The most number of E. rufipes adults was attracted to damaged leaf of A. firma by E. rufipes representing 45.3clo and followed by artificial damaged leaf representing 26.5% , untried feeding leaf representing 12.9% and undamaged leaf representing 4.0%. More E. rufipes adults were attracted to damaged leaf of A. firma by 67.5% than artificially damaged leaf by 30.5% or undamaged leaf treated with feces of E. rufipes by 2%.

  • This study intended to improve traffic safety in work zones using fluorescent orange color traffic signs. For this end, the current problems of existing traffic signs and facilities in work zones were analyzed and some good examples of foreign countries were compared. More specifically, in order to identify current problems, the basic shape and color of traffic signs in use were examined through literature review, surveys and field studies. It was found that the fluorescent color worked more effectively than other colors in terms of visibility and conspicuity in work zone sign system. For evaluation, both Conspicuity surveys and in-door simulator experiments were conducted to effectively assess the merits and demerits of different types of traffic signs for work zones. The results of evaluations showed that black lettering on a fluorescent orange background outperformed more than 70% in terms of visibility and ability to call drivers' attention compared with those from black/red lettering on yellow/white backgrounds currently used at work zones on expressways and national highways. In addition, simulated driving experiment disclosed that drivers recognized the fluorescent orange background sign 15m ahead compared with the yellow background sign and 25m ahead compared with the white background sign, respectively. As for the diamond-shaped "Under Construction" sign, drivers recognized fluorescent orange background 11m ahead compared with the yellow background sign and 19m ahead compared with the white background sign, respectively.

  • To select suitable cultivars to produce sweet potato (SP) chips instead of potato chips, ten Korean cultivars, Sinjami, Yeunjami, Sinhwangmi, Juhwangmi, Sincheonmi, Sinyulmi, Gunhwangmi, Dahomi, Daeyumi, and Pungwonmi were used. The acrylamide content, quality characteristics, and oxidation stability of SP chips were investigated. Acrylamide content was shown to be under 0.48 mg/kg in case of all cultivars except Yeunjami (1.07 mg/kg). The color values significantly differed among the cultivars and were maintained like those of raw roots. The hardness, brittleness, and fracturability of Juhwangmi and Sinhwangmi chips showed the lowest values, while those of Daeyumi were the highest. According to the sensory evaluation data, the quality characteristics of chips were influenced by not only hardness, fracturability, and crunchiness, but also the flavor taste. Pungwonmi chips showed the highest score, followed by Gunhwangmi and Dahomi chips. Therefore, Pungwonmi, Dahomi, and Gunhwangmi are suggested as suitable cultivars to make SP chips, because of their high overall quality and very low acrylamide content.

  • A new grafting cactus 'Yeomyeong' was developed by an interspecific crossing between Gymnocalycium marsoneri and G mihanovichii at the National Institute of Horticultural and Herbal Science, Rural Development Administration in 2005. In 2001, an interspecific crossing line '9922012' with orange color was selected from the cross of G. marsoneri ${\times}$ G. mihanovichii 'IG-112'. The line '9922012' as a female parent was crossed with G. mihanovichii 'IG-177', and the orange colored lines were obtained in 2002. The 'Wonkyo G1-159' was selected from the orange colored lines through three times of characteristic evaluation during 2003 to 2005. The 'Wonkyo G1-1 59' was named 'Yeomyeong' in the RDA in 2005. The color of both body and tubercle was orange. The shape of globe was flattened round and it had 7 to 9 ribs. The spine was erect, short sized and grayish brown color. Growth was faster, reaching 41.8-47.7 mm in diameter, than the comparison cultivar 'Hwangwol', at 10 months after planting. The number of tubercle was 6.9-12 per globe. 'Yeomyeong' was developed for export to the America and the Netherlands. Characteristics of the cultivar could be maintained by grafting on the Hylocereus trigomus.

  • Physicochemical properties of flours prepared from sweet potatoes with different flesh color (white, yellow/orange and purple) were investigated. Sweet potatoes were soaked in solutions of antibrowning agents such as sodium metabisulfite and citric acid, and freeze or hot air-dried prior to grinding to produce sweet potato flours. Sweet potato flours with different flesh colors showed differences in chemical composition. Purplefleshed sweet potato flour had higher protein, ash, and dietary fiber contents that white and yellow/orangefleshed sweet potato flours. Average particle size of yellow/orange-fleshed sweet potato flour was higher than those of white/yellow or purple-fleshed sweet potato flour. Both water absorption index (WAI) and oil absorption capacity of flours prepared from sweet potatoes by hot-air drying were higher than those from sweet potatoes by freeze drying.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the effect the water content in coir substrates as according to growth stage on the growth and yield of mini-paprika of three varieties 'E 499524' (red color), 'E 499526' (yellow colar) and 'E 499531' (orange colar) in summer hydroponics. Treatments of I, II and III were composed of 55-65-60, 50-60-55 and 45-55-50% in water contents of growth stages, respectively. Time domain reflectometry (TDR) sensors were used in a drip irrigation system. The early growth of mini-paprika was increased by high medium water content of treatment I in all of three varieties. Mean fruit weight was not affected by medium water content, but the fruit number per plant and yield were increased at high medium water content of treatment I. The Yield of treatment I was higher than that of treatment II and III in all of three varieties. The sugar content was increased by low medium water content of treatment in all of three varieties. The incidence of brown-stem fruit, blossom-end rot and sunburn was decreased with increasing water content of medium. Occurred in the low water content of medium. Mineral contents of fruits such as nitrogen (N), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg) etc. were not affected in all of three varieties.
