  • This work presents a vulnerability assessment procedure for a complex structure using vibration characteristics. The structural behavior of a three-dimensional framed structure subjected to impact forces was predicted using the spectral element method. The Timoshenko beam function was applied to simulate the impact wave propagations induced by a high-velocity projectile at relatively high frequencies. The interactions at the joints were analyzed for both flexural and longitudinal wave propagations. Simulations of the impact energy transfer through the entire structure were performed using the transient displacement and acceleration responses obtained from the frequency analysis. The kill probabilities of the crucial components for an operating system were calculated as a function of the predicted acceleration amplitudes according to the acceptable vibration levels. Following the proposed vulnerability assessment procedure, the vulnerable positions of a three-dimensional combat vehicle with high possibilities of damage generation of components by impact loading were identified from the estimated vibration responses.

  • Nonuniform transmission lines(NTLs) with the desired frequency response can be realized by synthesizing the potential from the coupled mode Zakharov-Shabat(ZS) equation in the one-dimensional inverse scattering problem. In this study, an efficient synthesis method using the ZS equations is presented for NTLs with arbitrarily specified reflection coefficients which take the restricted potential. This method lessens the line length which plague conventional design schemes using specific windows for reflection coefficients. Furthermore solving the ZS inverse transform problem is simplified by adopting the successive approach instead of the conventional iterative method. The proposed method is compared with the conventional method using specific windows by applying to design of dispersive NTL filters, and verified by two-port analysis through the chain matrix.

  • In the synthesis of the current source distribution function of an array antenna with the arbitrary radiation pattern, the Woodward-Lawson sampling method has been mainly used for the synthesis of an even function lobe pattern. In this paper, the method is extended to the synthesis of the odd function pattern and then the optimum synthesis method for the nonlinear source distribution function is proposed. The proposed method is applied to the design of nonuniform transmission lines with arbitrary reflection responses. The both dispersive impedance profiles of single and coupled nonuniform lines with arbitrary reflection responses are directly synthesized by the sampled values of a reflected spectral pattern which is optimally shaped by a perturbation of its complex null positions, hence removing the conventional step-by-step segmentation process and global optimization routines. The control problem in the case that all of port impedances are identical is also solved. The generality of the proposed method is verified by a filter design with the controlled arbitrary passband

  • Finite Element Method(FEM) is the essential tools for analyzing structural and vibration problem. But common commercial program is high-priced and the usage is not easy. Hereby the authors developed FEM program by using Matlab, whose usage is very simple and whose performance is very high. For the convenience of use and calculating efficiency Component Mode Synthesis Method is adopted, which divides a structure by some sub-structures for easy handling, analyzes them by parts and analyzes the structure with encompassing Degrees of Freedom(DOF). And encompassed DOF could be restored to full DOF. To confirm the accuracy the program was applied to a flat plate, and the results were compared to experiment, and good agreements were achieved. The developed program is going to be opened to public.
