This study aims to suggest the scheme of upbringing Subject Specialists based on the cooperative effort of the main bodies related to Libraries for bringing up and revitalizing plans. Only when all subjects in every sector cooperate hard, upbringing Subject Specialists can come true. To raise subject librarians, First, library-related organizations, groups, and associations have to play an important role in policies and financial support about Subject Specialists. Second, The academic world needs to plan and operate the various education programs for Subject Specialists. Finally, the libraries on the field Have to provide their members with motivation for being Subject Specialists, opportunities for education, and prepare the personage system including employment and compensation for Subject Specialists.

Througout the literature, various opinions and recommendations are presented concerning educational backgrounds for subject specialist librarianship. However, the Korean library and information science education is designed as the college program, and n, utilization of either minor or double major programs is regarded as the best to produce qualified subject specialist librarians. Nevertheless, the courses in the library and information science should be promoted first. Accordingly, this study starts with the assumption that the subject bibliography course in the library and information science is designed directly or indirectly to educate students as subject specialist librarians. For this, law and law firm library were explored as examples, and then, finally a law bibliography was provided for the training of the law specialist librarians.

In this study, an investigation has been made on the status of the issuance of librarian qualification, the status of operating Subject specialized librarians at home and abroad, the status of professional manpower of the similar cultural facilities, and their recruitment method, based on which an attempt has been made to propose a way to nurture the Subject specialized librarians. First, I propose a method for training Subject specialized librarians through a regular curriculum and a retraining process, while suggest the ways to nurture the Subject specialized librarians from undergraduate and also nurture the existing librarians to become the Subject specialized librarians. Second, the basic qualification of the Subject specialized librarians must have a career of more than 3 years in a specific subject area with a master's degree or higher, and in order to have a subject area background, it is proposed that a bachelor's degree or a master's degree must absolutely be acquired in the corresponding subject area. Third, in order to improve the treatment of such Subject specialized librarians, the Subject specialized librarians in the administrative service group could be organized into a research librarian (or library and information science) series and types as a subordinate literary series under the researcher position. That is, it is proposed to differentiate the librarians and the Subject specialized librarians by reorganizing series and types of the Subject specialized librarians while maintaining the current librarian series.

This study suggests ameliorated Library and Information Science education, and its curriculum for education of national subject specialists. For that purpose, this study investigates and compares four internal universities, three American universities along with the figures of the present and future subjects to face updated educational plans and prepare to become a new information specialist at ALA(American Library Association), ALISE(Association for Library and Information Science Education), and other agents. The results of this study can be used as the basic data for training 'subject specialist' in the university curriculum.

There is a strong need to develop a training program for specialized personnel called mental health librarian. The study examines the necessity of ongoing education as series of steps to be considered in actual curriculum development, by looking at the features of bibliotherapy through a literature review and through an analysis to the requirements of a qualified mental health librarian and its training system. The result shows that, in order to train librarian in mental health, it is necessary to establish courses corresponding to the bibliotherapy field within the subject of library and information sciences and to strengthen the specialization in the its curriculum. It is desirable to establish the mental health librarian educational programs in library and information science graduate programs in Korea. The results of this study, as fundamental data for future research, will promote the role of the specialized mental health librarian and guidelines for developing and expanding the qualities and training of specialized librarian to resolve the immediate problem of the Korean library scene and academia.

Most of the university libraries in Korea provide digital reference service(DRS), but the use of DRS is very low. The low usage of DRS seems to result from the lack of subject librarians, of staff, of public relations, and of managers' enthusiastic attitude and understanding of DRS. It is difficult to solve these problems because of the poor circumstances in universities. The collaborative digital reference service(CDRS) is a solution to these problems. Not only CDRS costs little but also can provide reference services in many different subject areas. Though subject specialist librarian, user-friendly system interface, system programs and administrative supports are necessary to implement CDRS, the education and training of the subject specialist librarians is the most important work to be done in the university library situation in Korea.

This study, based on the need for department of LIS education program that targets training of subject-special librarian, focuses on proving that such education can improve perception of subject-special librarian and strengthen career decision-making. This study is composed of two parts. First, this study investigates case studies about subject-special librarian cultivation. Second, this study includes a survey about subject-special librarian, improving understanding about subject-special librarian, and improving career decision-making which was carried out targeting students who take 'Medical Terms and MeSH', and 'Health & Medical Information Sources' courses. Results are as follows. First, most of the respondents felt the need for medical librarian and medical information services (88.7%), understood the role of medical librarian (92.5%), got to know more about the types and functions of medical information services (100%), and came to be more aware of the self-esteem a medical librarian feels as a professional. Second, relatively, the percentage of respondents who demonstrated the willingness to work at a medical library (45.3%) or work in the field of medical information services (26.4%) was noticeably low. Third, there were no statistical difference in whether the students took related courses or not, number of courses they took and difference in their school year, and in regard of the level of understanding of medical librarian and medical information services, those who took courses demonstrated higher understanding than did those who did not take those courses. Also, those who took the courses showed stronger willingness to work as a medical librarian. Fourthly, the curriculum carried out by the department of library and information service was effective in understanding medical librarian and medical information services, but makes students more cautious about deciding whether or not to start their career at a medical library. Lastly, it was recommended that there is a need to have the curriculum updated in order to help students overcome the difficulty and unfamiliarity they feel about medical subject.

The objective of the study is to search for a theoretical and practical solution for the question "what is the most effective and Qualitative method of information service for the college and university libraries in Korea." Assuming the maximum service, or total service theory in information services, it needs the subject specialist who has highly qualified in his subject. This research adapted the survey method by questionnaire to the reference/information librarian who worked in college and university libraries, 159 librarians returned the questionnaires. By the analysis of this questionnaires, the following major results were found: 1. There were only 7.6% who could be called as subject specialist in Korean college and university libraries. 2. The subject specialist system is necessary to enhance the Information services in college and university libraries. 3. The major functions of subject specialists are information services In given subject fields; to prepare the bibliographies, guides, reading lists, indexes and abstracts; distribution of information and current awareness services; well balanced collection developments; liaison function between academic departments, students and faculty members; formal and informal lecture on the use of the library and the resources; and the cataloging and classification. 4. The best library and information education system is the graduate level study which is offering the M.L.S. or M.S. of library and information science with the emphasis on the study of subject background. 5. They will establish the faculty status for academic librarian by the development of subject specialist system in college and university libraries in Korea.

Faced with the establishment of Korean Law School which aims to educate the qualified lawyer to provide the high quality of legal service professionally and efficiently to the people with complicated legal problems, this study analysed the basic approval standards for Korean Law School Library which is described in the bill as a integral part of law school for effective legal education.
