Seismic Response of CWR on HSR Bridge Considering Derailment Inducing Factors (탈선취약요소를 고려한 고속철도교량 장대레일 지진응답 평가)

  • n the event of an earthquake, additional stresses can occur in the continuous welded rails (CWR) of High-speed railway (HSR) bridges due to relative displacements at expansion joints, and this stress can cause derailment. The amplification of ground motion occurs as a result of site effects, and this is pronounced at the site of a soft surface soil layer and of a rigid surface soil layer over a soft one. As a result, the amplified ground motion leads to an amplified seismic response in HSR bridges. A change in bridge pier height affects the seismic behavior of the bridge. A HSR bridge with gravel ballast tracks will show different dynamic behavior during an earthquake than one with concrete ballast tracks. The seismic responses of HSR bridges and their CWR are analyzed considering the derailment-inducing factors.

  • In this study, we conducted a structural design and analysis of air intake of aircraft engine using composite materials. First, an investigation on structural design requirement of target structure was carried out. The distributed pressure load and acceleration condition was applied to structural design. To evaluate the structural design result, finite element analysis was carried out. The stress, deflection and buckling analysis for structural safety evaluation was performed. Finally, it was confirmed that the air intake through structural analysis is safety.

Seismic Performance Evaluation of Inverted V Braced Steel Frames with Considering P-Δ Effects: A Case Study (P-Δ 효과를 고려한 역 V형 철골 가새골조의 내진성능평가: 사례연구)

  • Most of the columns in centrally braced steel frame buildings are usually designed as the gravity columns to reduce connection cost. For a rational seismic performance evaluation of centrally braced steel frame buildings, it is important to properly incorporate in the analysis  the P-${\Delta}$ effects arising from the gravity columns. An effective scheme for the P-${\Delta}$ effects modeling due to the gravity columns was illustrated based on the concept of fictitious leaning column. Seismic performance evaluation of inverted V braced steel frames with or without P-${\Delta}$ effects modeling was conducted by following the FEMA 273 NSP (Nonlinear Static Procedure). The problem in estimating dynamic P-${\Delta}$ modification factor (C3) in FEMA 273 was discussed. The results of this study indicated that the P-${\Delta}$ effects should be included in the seismic performance evaluation of centrally braced steel frames. This study also showed that the inverted V braced frames, retrofitted by applying the tie bars to redistribute the inelastic demand over the height of the building, exhibit significantly improved seismic performance.

Reliability-Based Assessment of Safety and Load Carrying Capacity of Steel-Box Pedestrian Bridges (신뢰성에 기초한 강상형 보도육교의 안전도 및 내하력 평가)

  • A number of standard type of steel-box pedestrian bridges are constructed in th metropolitan high way or heavy traffic urban area. Although it has the advantage of speedy construction because of its simple structural form and prefabricated erection method, it has been reported that many of these bridges are deteriorated or damaged and thus are in the state such that it would give unsafe and uncomfortable feeling to pedestrians. In the paper, for the realistic assessment of safety and load carrying capacity of deteriorated and/or damaged steel box pedestrian bridges, an interactive non-linear limit state model is formulated based on the von Mises' combined stress yield criterion. It has been demonstrated that the proposed model is effective for the reliability-based safety assessment and load carrying capacity evaluation of steel-box pedestrian bridges. In addition, this study suggests an effective and practical field load test method for pedestrian bridges.

Study of Failure Mode and Static Behavior of Lightweight FRP Truss Bridge Deck System (복합재료 트러스 교량시스템의 정적거동 및 파괴모드에 관한 해석적 연구)

  • There is a concern with worldwide deterioration of highway bridges, particularly reinforced concrete. The advantages of fibre reinforced plastic(FRP) composites over conventional materials motivate their use in highway bridges for replacement of structures. Recently, an FRP deck has been installed on a state highway, located in New York State, as an experimental project. In this paper, a systematic approach for analysis of this FRP deck bridge is presented. Multi-step linear numerical analyses have been performed using the finite element method to study the structural behavior and the possible failure mechanism of the FRP deck-superstructure system. Deck's self-weight and ply orientations at the interface between steel girders and FRP deck are considered in this study. From this research, the results of the numerical analyses were corroborated with field test results. Analytical results reveal several potential failure mechanism for the FRP deck and truss bridge system. The results presented in this study may be used to propose engineering design guideline for new and replacement FRP bridge deck structure.

Seismic Performance Evaluation and Retrofit of a 2-Story Steel Building Using a Fragility Contour Method (취약성 등고선을 이용한 비내진 2층 철골조 건축물에 대한 내진성능 평가와 보강)

  • Based on the Korean Building Standard Law, a building less than 3-stories and $1000m^2$ in area is defined as a small-level building and, as a result, this type of building has been excluded from the requirement to comply with seismic design. In order to prevent the loss of life and property under earthquake loadings, the small-scale building should satisfy the seismic performance specified in the current code through a seismic retrofit. In this study, a seismic retrofit scheme of a Buckling-Restrained Knee Brace (BRKB) was developed for non-seismic 2-story steel buildings, including small-scale buildings, using a fragility contour method. In order to develop an effective retrofit scheme of the BRKB for the building, a total of 75 BRKB analytical models were used to achieve the desired performance levels and analyzed using the fragility contour method. The seismic performance of the retrofitted building was evaluated in terms of the weight of the developed BRKB systems. This study shows that the fragility contour method can be used for rapid evaluation and is an effective tool for structural engineers.

Proposal of a New Type of 4-Lane Soundproof Tunnel Girder and Structural Performance Evaluation (4차선급 신형식 방음터널 거더 제안 및 구조적 성능평가)

  • The soundproof tunnels have been generally designed with H-beam girders, and the high weight of H-beam may cause the excessive design of the substructure. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a new soundproof tunnel girder design composed of pipes and discontinuous plates. First, the structural behavior of the straight girder according to the design parameters was examined through finite element analysis. The arrangement and shape of the plates were determined as the design parameter, to obtain the optimal design of girder. After then, the structural behavior and buckling stability of the arched girder were subsequently evaluated. As a result of the parameter analysis, it was confirmed that the axial force acting on the girder increased and the moment decreased as the ratio of unsupported sections decreased or the number of supporting plates increased. The stress concentration on the pipe member was relieved by increasing the long axis length of the elliptical plate. Arched girder analysis showed that the structural efficiency increase as the long axis of elliptical plate increase. As a result of the buckling evaluation, the buckling threshold load of the three connected girders was about 3.7 times higher than the design load. Consequently, it was confirmed that the proposed soundproof tunnel structure design satisfies both light weight and structural safety.

  • Because the framed wall system using steel studs and runners with square steel tubes as structural elements is reinforced by the horizontal members called runners, it has more strength and load bearing capacity than the steel house wall system. Also, this system improves adiabatic and sound insulation performance by filling up the autoclaved lightweight concrete. We need to evaluate load bearing capacity according to the axial load and lateral load in case this system is applied in the housing system with 3~5 stories through variations in intervals for the runners under the placement effect of autoclaved lightweight concrete. Therefore, this study seeks to analyze axial and shear behavior of the framed wall system according to the placement effect of autoclaved lightweight concrete, and to secure safety for the vertical and lateral loads.

Structural Performance Evaluation to Centrally Compressed CFT Columns Using Seismic Rectangular Steel Tube (중심압축력을 받는 내진 건축구조용 각형강관 CFT 부재의 구조성능평가)

  • In this study, This study investigates the axial load behavior of concrete-filled steel columns using seismic rectangular steel tube with the width-to-thickness and slenderness ratio. Due to cold-roll forming and cold-press forming of steel tube, the flat part and the corner part of the rectangular steel tubes are changed in the material properties compared to SN-steel plate. It was showed the tendency to increase yield strength, tensile strength and upper limit of yield ratio This phenomenon affects the nonlinear behavior after local buckling of the steel tube. Therefore, the coupon test was performed by the processing of rectangular steel tube, in order to assess forming performance. And a total of 6 CFT-columns were tested under monotonic loading condition. Main parameters were the width-thickness ratio and the slenderness ratio.

  • 내진 설계규정이 적용되기 이전에 시공되어 사용 중인 교량의 경우 지진 발생시 교각의 파괴 또는 구조적 피해는 교량 전체 시스템의 붕괴를 초래하므로 지진하중에 대하여 피해를 최소화해야 한다. 이를 위해 내진설계규정이 적용되기 이전의 교량 또는 지진취약지역으로 분류된 곳의 교량, 사회적 중요도가 높은 교량에 대해 교각의 내진성능보강을 실시하고 있다. 2007년 말 국토해양부가 관리하고 있는 11,940개 교량 중 지진 발생시 피해가 우려되는 1,342개(일반국도 682개, 고속국도 600개) 교량에 대해 2006년부터 내진보강이 착수되었고 2009년에는 확대 추진하여 일반국도 80개교, 고속국도 100개교에 대한 보강을 실시하였다. 이와 같이 확대 추진되고 있는 정책에 반해, 내진보강 기술 및 제품이 부족하고 새로운 내진보강재 개발이 불가피해지고 있는 것이 현실이다. 소성영역에서의 횡방향 철근은 지진 시 종방향 철근의 좌굴과 콘크리트의 압축강도저하를 방지하며, 전단보강철근으로도 중요한 역할을 하여 교각의 전단강도를 증가시킨다. 그러나 이러한 횡방향 철근은 초기 설계에 의한 시공이 종료된 후 기존의 성능을 증가시키기 위하여 철근량을 증가하거나 단면의 변화를 주기에는 매우 어려운 일이다. 따라서 내진성능을 위한 단면력 증가를 위하여 다양한 재료의 보강재와 형식이 사용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 원형교각 모델의 구조해석을 이용해 내진성능평가를 선행한 후 실험체를 제작, Helical Bar를 보강하여 준정적 실험을 통해 내진보강성능을 평가하였다. 압축설계강도 $f_{ck}=240kgf/cm^2$를 기준으로 교량등급 2등교인 일반적인 도로교의 1/4축소모형을 설계, 기초부는 $1,200{\times}600{\times}600$ (mm)으로 철근과 콘크리트로 구성하였으며, 기둥부는 직경 400mm, 높이 1,250mm 크기의 철근콘크리트 원형 교각 실험체를 제작하였다. 제작된 실험체는 총 3개로, 분류는 무보강 일반 실험체, Helical Bar 직경에 따른 분류, 보강간격에 따른 분류로 나누어진다.
