This paper examines the impact of the institutional complementarity between welfare regimes and production regimes on income inequality. Using comparative welfare data by various sources for 14 OECD nations from 1980 to 1997, this paper attempts to answer two questions. First, is there a institutional complementary in regulatory process between distribution and production? Second, if it is correct, what kind of causal structure do we predict? Panel Corrected Standard Errors(PCSE) model, a data analysis method in pooled cross-sectional time-series, is employed to examine the interaction effects between the two variables: coordination in the sphere of distribution; coordination in the sphere of production The evidence suggest that there are powerful interaction effects between distributive coordination and production coordination and that the institutional complementary has effects on income inequality. First, the income inequality effect of coordination in the sphere of distribution becomes less positive(more negative) as coordination in the sphere of production increases. Second, the income inequality effect of coordination in the sphere of production becomes less positive(more negative) as coordination in the sphere of distribution increases.

Seasonal adjustment is useful to provide a better understanding of underlying trends in Korean economic statistics. The seasonal component also includes calendar effects such as Seol and Chuseok. Most popular seasonal adjustment methods are X-12-ARIMA of the U.S. Bureau of the Census and TRAMO-SEATS of the Bank of Spain. Statistics Korea and the Bank of Korea compile seasonally adjusted series of several Korean economic statistics. This paper illustrates basic principles for seasonal adjustment and the current status of seasonal adjustment in Korea based on previous research. In addition, several issues on seasonal adjustment are addressed.

계절변동조정방법인 X-12-ARIMA방법을 이용할 때에는 우리 실정에 적합한 옵션을 선택하고, 우리만에 특수한 명절과 조업일수영향을 사전에 조정해야한다. 본고에서는 명절과 조업일수영향을 측정하는 모형을 설정하고, 이것으로 추정된 사전조정요인을 원계열에서 제거했을 때 계절변동 및 계절변동조정계열의 안정성이 향상되었는가를 진단하고, 분류별로 적합한 X-12-ARIMA방법의 옵션을 제안하였다.

원사업자가 발주자로부터 계약금액을 조정받지 아니한 경우에도 일부 품목의 가격이 급변동시 원사업자와 수급사업자는 상호 협의하여 서면으로 계약금액을 조정할 수 있도록 했다. 공정거래위원회는 납품단가 조정을 위해 지난 1월 10일 14개 업종의 표준하도급계약서를 개정했다. 서면계약서에는 대금조정요건, 방법 및 절차 등이 기재된다. 원사업자는 이 계약서에 따라 발주업체로부터 계약금액을 조정받지 못하더라고 수급사업자와 상호 협의를 통해 서면으로 계약금액을 조정해야 한다.

This paper investigates how firms adjust wages, employment and hours in response to demand shifts. It focuses on rigidities and asymmetries in such adjustments. Major findings are as follows. First, wage adjustments are fairly small compared with worker adjustments. Second, wage adjustments are asymmetric with respect to sales growth: there is no responsiveness of wage growth when sales are declining, while adjustments are significantly positive when sales are rising. On the contrary, worker adjustments are symmetric with respect to demand shifts. Third, while workers are linearly adjusted to the sales growth, some nonlinearity is observed in the wage adjustment. Fourth, hours are generally nonresponsive to demand shocks. Finally, union firms cut wages rather than workers in the face of negative demand shocks.

Two alternative dispute resolutions for medical dispute have been operated under the States of German Medical Associations. The first is the medical mediation committee of North german area, the other is the advisory committee on medical errors in North-Rhine area. The former has focused on the mediation itself, the latter commission has focused on the expert review itself whether the physician has maintained reasonable care in diagnosis and treatment. Even though these organizations have maintained under the medical associations, to maintain the neutrality on legal and medical decision, the North German mediation committee is composed of a lawyer and a medicine doctor respectively and North-Rhine advisory committee has a lawyer chair person and four medicine doctors. The main difference of Korean Medical Dispute Mediation Agency in respect from the german system is that expert review is subordinated to the mediation process. The neutrality of expert review is suspected from the medicine doctors. The neytrality and the efficiency should be improved to treat the medical disputes. To do so, lawyer and medicine doctor work together in mediation process and lawyer should manage the expert review process but not involved. Mediation process and expert review should be checked and balanced, and they could be developed as a separated process itself.

The United States Census Bureau released a new version of X-13ARIMA-SEATS that integrates X-12-ARIMA with TRAMO-SEATS. This paper compares a seasonal adjusted series from X-13ARIMA-SEATS and those from X-12-ARIMA. An X11 filter and SEATS filter were used for the X-13ARIMA-SEATS. The result of the comparison suggests that seasonal adjusted series using X-13ARIMA-SEATS with the X11 filter are similar to those of X-12-ARIMA.

This paper presents the evaluation of LPG (Liquefied petroleum gas) regulators for home use. For the evaluation, several properties of the regulators were experimentally analyzed, such as the operation of safety device, the adjusting and lock-up pressure, the adjusting spring and the diaphragm, with respect to the used time of the regulators. Experimental results showed that the initial operation performance of regulators were degraded with increase of the service time and also showed that the degradation of the performance and material property could become serious after six-year-use of the regulator.
