  • Evacuation and Fatalities Simulation is one of the core technologies for performance based design. Recently, developed programs in foreign countries have limitations such as simple fatality calculation and coarse visual interface. This study developed an advanced evaluation program for evacuation and fatalities to overcome limitations of existing programs and improve various applications, i.e., an evacuation algorithm using elevators as well as evacuation stairs. In addition, the evaluation program can let users make a decision of fatalities from fire by coupling with FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator) from NIST and realizes three-dimensional virtual space using a graphic module.

  • Long Sleeve Costume is often seen not only in ancient China but also in various neighboring places throughout the time. Costumes show the societies cultural preferences and values at that time, and Long Sleeve Costume is no exception. In my research, 1 focused on the time period from Han Dynasty to Tang dynasty in ancient China. During Han dynasty, Shenyl style robe(심의형 포) was widely worn, and it shows very little foreign cultural influence. For the period of Wei·Jin Southern and Northern Dynasties, foreign aspects of costume started to show up Possibly due to the influence of Buddhism and influx of foreign tribes. For instance, it is not too difficult to find hufu (호복) as well as Shenyl style robe, and it appears this Wei Jin Southern and Northern Dynasties may have been a transitional period of accommodating two cultures without complete merger. Now, when it comes to Tang dynasty, we observe a creation of new cultural form in costume after adopting exotic culture. Because Sh ny style robe. often observed for a long time in Chinese history, disappeared, and tuanling(단영) and fanling(번영) became the main stream in their costume style in Tang dynasty.

  • The morphological development of Mycoplasma pneumoniae attached to solid surfaces was examined by light and electron microscopies. Critical point drying and carbon replication techniques revealed that during the growth cycle of developing microcolonies, the morphological form coincided with the pH of the culture. M. pneumoniae appeared to have a well defined morphology associated with age of the culture. The organisms were dimorphic, with round cells capable of reproduction and segments consisting of a spindle shaped body with one pointed and one knob-like end. Starting with single cells, there were the following stages in the development of a culture: replication stage through binary fission and segmentation, stage of confluency, and a degeneration stage into rough spherical forms. The round cells appearrd to replicate by binary fission during the lag and early log phases of growth, while spindle segments replicated by segmentation during most of the logarithmic growth. The growth of the filaments and replication of the segments occured at the knob-like ends, showing a type of polarity, and formed a meshwork across the surface. This development could be cycled under favorable growth conditions, but the culture aged and when the conditions became adverse(e.g. pH 6.8 or lower), filamentous cells converted to spherical forms, losing their reproductive capability.
