The early senescence mutant induced from Gihobyeo by $\gamma-ray$ irradiation was determined. The mutated gene expression was identified with comparing the characteristic of original cultivar. The mutant had so similar the morphological characteristics to original cultivar that it couldn't be distinguished until senescence occurred at about 20 days after heading. Suddenly yellow leaves were observed within a few days due to great decreases in total chlorophyll and various carotenoid contents. Transmission electron microscopy showed the formation of starch granules, distortion of fine structure of leaf cell organelles, especially grana structures, and the decrease in grain filled after senescence occurred. But banding patterns of total proteins and isozymes have not show any differences, The early senescence mutant will be very useful for study material not only on physiological and biochemical properties of plant senescence but also on gene expression regulating senescence which gives great influence on yield potential and its stability.

This study was undertaken to clarify the effect of killing methods on the morphological and histological changes of plaice, Paralichthys olivaceus muscle at early stage after killing. Killed samples by the three different methods were stored at $5^{\circ}$, and the changes in breaking strength of muscle, morphological observation of myofibrils and histological observation of extracellular spaces through storage were monitored. Samples killed by electrifying in sea water showed the maximum value of breakin strength immediately after killing and then it dropped significantly(p<0.05) until 2.5hrs passed. Breaking strength of samples killed by spiking at the head instantly and dipping in sea water including anesthetic rose steadily over 10hrs and 15hrs after killing, respectively. In myofibrills prepared from dorsal muscles immediately after spiking at the head instantly, A-band, H-band, I-band, and Z-line in sarcomere were clearly distinguishable each other. Due to muscle contraction by electrical stimulation, it was impossible to distinguish H-band from I-band observed in sarcomere immediately after killing for samples killed by electrifying. But, in the cases of samples killed by spiking and dipping, H-band could be observed dimly until 10hrs and 15hrs storage. No extracellular space was observed among muscle cells immediately after spiking at the head instantly. Samples killed by spiking at the head instantly and dipping in sea water including anesthetic showed extracellular spaces among all muscle cells after 15hrs and 25hrs storage, respectively. The other hand, samples killed by electrifying in sea water (110V, 30sec.) showed a few extracellular spaces immediately after killing and then it showed extracellular spaces among all muscle cells after 2.5hrs storage.
Between Oct. 1985 and July 1995, 230 patients underwent mitral valve replacement. There were 77 men and 153 women whose mean age was 35.7 years, range 9 to 62 The concomitant operations were 40 aortic valve replacements(17.4%), 25 tricuspid annuloplasties(10.4%), 8 aortic valve replacements & tricuspid annuloplasties(3.5%), 2 tricuspid valve replacements(0.9%) and others, We used 139 mechanical (76 51. Jude medical, 33 CarboMedics, 30 Sorin) and 91 tissue 386 Carpentier-Edwards, 5 lonescu-Shiley) valves. The early postoperative complications occurred in 28 cases. There were 8 low cardiac output syndrome, 5 pleural effusion, 3 significant arrhythmia, 2 cardiac rupture and others. There were 6 early hospital deaths (2.6%) due to low cardiac output syndrome(2), arrhythmia(2) and ventricul r rupture(2). The cuAmulative notal follow-up period was 764. 4 patient-years with a mean of 4).9 months. The long term follow-up information was available for 212 patients(94.6%). There were 21 cases of valve-related complications. Prosthetic valve failure(10), anti-coagulation related bleeding (5), prosthetic valve endocarditis (4), and thromboembolism (2) occurred at rates of 1.3, 0.7, 0.5, and 0.3%Ipt-yr respectively. Late death occurred In 5 cases (0.7%/pt-yr) associated with prosthetic valve endocarditis (2), heart failure (2) and anti-coagulation related bleeding (1). There was no difference in the rate of freedom from prosthetic valve failure between the mechanical and tissue valve group at 6 years (100%), but there was significant difference at 9 years between the tissue (34.4%) and mechanical valve (100%) group (p=0.032). Actuarial survival rates were 98. 8% in tissue valve. 9).7% in mechanical valve group and 96.6% in total patients at 9 years.
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease, which is mainly characterized by disease of joints affected with synovial hyperplasia, pathological immune response, and progressive destruction; all of which represent an important social health problem. These provide new insights in its pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis and disease progression in molecular changes. This review focuses on new serological and immunological markers which seem to be useful in early diagnosis and prognosis of rheumatoid arthritis. Therefore, such tests are widely conducted for serological biomarkers and the developments with such immunological factors to identify patients who are at risk for disease progression. This evidence of the disease based on laboratory medicine could provide the best outcome for patients. Finally, data from recent studies will help to refine the ultimate usefulness of this novel approach for early diagnosis, treatment, and helping clinicians to optimize therapy by using this approach.

The definition of fascial spaces are latent spaces between fascial planes. If infections which spread from dental origin to soft tissue are mild, they are restricted by fascial planes. But, when infections are severe, fascial spaces are often used as a natural pathway which spread to the deep cervical region. If they are not treated at early stage, they may result in the fatal complications as followings; airway obstruction, septicemia, cerebral abscess, and thrombophlebitis etc. The early treatment of fascial space abscess is very important for young children. These case reports present the successful result of fascial space abscess treatment through intracanal drainage without surgical excision. It is proven that the treatment through intracanal drainage has some benefits to the surgical excision, which are as follows: 1) It is economic to the patients or their parents avoiding admission. 2) The treatment procedure is more simple. 3) Childrens can avoid the fearful environment.

Although the ultrasonic method has been developed and used widely in the fields, it has been used only for measuring the defect size and thickness loss. In this study, the relationship between surface wave attenuation through micro-crack growth and variation of velocity under repeated cyclic loading has been investigated. The specimens are adopted from 2.25Cr-1Mo steel, which is used for power plant and pipeline system, and have dimensions of $200{\times}40{\times}4mm$. The results of ultrasonic test with a 5MHz transducer show that surface wave velocity gradually decreases from the point of 60% of fatigue life and the crack length of 2mm with the increasing fatigue cycles. From the results of this study, it is found that the technique using the ultrasonic velocity change is one of very useful methods to evaluate the fatigue life nondestructively.

Steel corrosion in concrete is a main cause of deterioration and early failure of concrete structures. A novel integration of electromagnetic heat induction and infrared (IR) thermography is proposed for nondestructive detection of steel corrosion in concrete, by taking advantage of the difference in thermal characteristics of corroded and non-corroded steel. This paper focuses on experimental investigation of the concept. An inductive heater is developed to remotely heat the embedded steel from concrete surface, which is integrated with an IR camera. Concrete samples with different cover depths are prepared. Each sample is embedded with a single rebar in the middle, resulting an identical cover depth from the front and the back surfaces, which enable heat induction from one surface and IR imaging from the other simultaneously. The impressed current (IC) method is adopted to induce accelerated corrosion on the rebar. IR video images are recorded during the entire heating and cooling periods. The test results demonstrate a clear difference in thermal characteristics between corroded and non-corroded samples. The corroded sample shows higher rates of heating and cooling than those of the non-corroded sample. This study demonstrates a potential for nondestructive detection of rebar corrosion in concrete.

Fiber-sheet and steel-plate strengthening methods have been mainly used for strengthening the RC structures. However, recently the application of these two methods have dramatically decreased due to premature debonding failure between concrete surface and fiber-sheet and heavy self-weight of steel-plate. This article presents experimental results of shear behavior in RC beams strengthened with GSP(Glass fiber-Steel composite Plate). The thin steel plate in GSP makes usage of the anchoring system possible, which could delay or prevent the premature debonding failure. Three reference beams and 60 strengthened beams with GSP were tested. The experimental results showed that strengthened beams with GSP considerably increased in shear capacity compared with the reference beams.
Moisture damage of asphalt mixtures can occur because of a loss of bond between the asphalt binder and the fine and coarse aggregates. Therefore, moisture damage on asphalt pavements is the main cause of potholes, which is one of the main distress type of asphalt pavement. The purpose of this study is to evaluation effect moisture damage on material properties of asphalt mixtures through the laboratory performance test. The existing Modified Lottman test procedure was improved and the number of times that thermal cyclic conditioning can be added until the asphalt mixtures is damaged, was tested in order to exhibit the changes of the material properties because of moisture damage by immersion. Through the above experiments, it was found that the material properties of asphalt mixtures on room-temperature were rapidly decreased with loss of about 50% at initial stage of moisture damage caused by the amount of repeated immersion. Also, it was found that the property damage ratio using material properties of failure energy and $DCSE_f$ by test temperature $25^{\circ}C$ were showed a high relationship to moisture damage of the asphalt mixtures caused by the amount of repeated immersion.
This paper deals with an enhanced structural capacity of reinforced concrete bridge deck strengthened with carbon fiber rod (CFR) which is subjected to monotonic and cyclic loads. Strengthening variables considered in this test were evenly and unevenly strengthening type. To evaluate strengthening capacity for these two strengthening types, load-carrying capacity and crack and failure pattern from the failure test were analyzed and fatigue response were examined. According to the test results, all the strengthened specimens showed punching shear failure as a result of premature failure of bonding interface between mortar and concrete. In the case of strengthening capacity, it was observed that the strengthened specimens was more effective in strength, stiffness and fatigue endurance limit than the unstrengthened specimen. In addition, the unevenly strengthening method (CR-UE) was more effective than the evenly strengthening method (CR-E).
