The Relationship between Burning Mouth Syndrome and Helicobacter pylori in the Oral Cavity (구강작열감증후군과 구강 내 Helicobacter pylori의 상호관련성)

  • Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is bacterial infection, with more than half of the world population infected and relates to many oral disease such oral lichen planus, recurrent aphthous ulceration, periodontal disease and halitosis and so on. Burning mouth syndrome(BMS) is defined as a burning sensation of the oral mucosa, lips, and/or tongue, in the absence of specific oral lesions. The etiology of BMS is suggested local, systemic and psychological factors and researchs related BMS and to infection of H. pyloir in the oral cavity are few. The purpose of this study was to evaluate relationship between burning mouth syndrome and H. pylori in the oral cavity. We recruited 21 subjects with burning mouth syndrome and 21 subjects as control group. Samples in the oral cavity were taken area of buccal mucosa, dorsum of the tongue and saliva. We analysed samples by nested polymerase chain reaction(PCR). The results were as follows: 1. Among 21 patients with burning mouth sydrome and 21 subjects of control group, 6(29%) and 3(14%) were positive respectively(P>0.05). 2. In detection rate of H. pylori in area taken sample, 3(14%), 2(10%) and 4(19%) were positive in buccal mucosa, dorsum of the tongue and saliva of patient and 2(10%) and 1(5%) were positive in dorsum of the tongue and saliva of control group(P>0.05). Conclusively, we can guess that H. pylori in the oral cavity is not related with burning mouth syndrome.

Development and Effect of a Metabolic Syndrome Prevention Program for University Students using Mobile Application (대학생을 위한 대사증후군 예방교육프로그램 개발 및 효과-어플리케이션(Application) 매체 적용)

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to develop and evaluate the effect of a metabolic syndrome prevention program using mobile application for university students. Methods: A pretest-posttest design with content analysis as a triangulation method was used. The participants were 49 university students. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, $x^2$-test, t-test and Fisher's exact test with the SPSS WIN 18.0 program. Results: The application consisted of six main menus as follows: 'basic education', 'nutrition education', 'exercise education', 'meal diary', 'exercise checkup', and 'tips'. The experimental group had higher recognition about metabolic syndrome prevention than the control group (F=7.919, p=.007). Understanding of metabolic syndrome among participants was mostly related to chronic diseases such as obesity, hypertension and diabetes in relation to the importance of eating habits and exercising. Conclusion: The results indicate that metabolic syndrome prevention education using mobile application is necessary and would be useful for university students.

Effects of Rice Added with Mulberry Leaves and Fruit on Blood Glucose, Body Fat and Serum Lipid Levels in Rats (뽕잎오디쌀이 흰쥐의 혈당농도와 체지방 및 혈청지질 분획에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was performed to investigate the effects of rice added with mulberry leaves and fruit on blood glucose, body fat and serum lipid levels in Sprague-Dawley male rats for 4 weeks. Mulberry rice diet was prepared with mixture of 50% of purified AIN-diet and 50% of formulated rice consisting of soybean, barley, polished rice, black rice, uncleaned rice bud, mulberry leaves and fruit. The experimental animals were fed the mulberry rice diet (group A) and the purified AIN-diet (group B, diabetic control) for 4 weeks in rats injected with streptozotocin. In terms of observing hypolipidemic effect of mulberry rice, rats were fed either high-fat diet (13% fat) with additional lard, corn oil, cholesterol to AIN-diet (group C, control) or mulberry rice diet mixed with high fat diet (group D) for 4 weeks. Blood glucose level at the 4th week of group A had increased 5 mg/dL compared with that of day 0, while group B increased 51 mg/dL. However, the glucose levels of the groups A and B at the final day were 156 mg/dL (12.4% decrease compared with B) and 178 mg/dL, respectively. As for hypolipidemic effect, weight gain and body fat were 8% lower in the group D and serum triglyceride level also 19% lower in the group D compared with those of group C (p<0.05).

고지방식이를 섭취한 흰쥐에서 난소화성전분의 섭취형태가 체중, 혈액지방과 면역능력에 미치는 영향

  • 난소화성전분(resistant starch, RS)는 건강한 사람의 소장에서 흡수되지 않는 전분과 분해된 전분의 산물을 총칭하는데. 대장에서 발효와 미생물성장, 식후 혈당, 변부피, 장통과시간, 식품의 열량가 등에 영향을 미치므로 생리적인 이점을 갖는다. 본 연구에서는 고지방식이와 콜레스테롤을 섭취란 흰쥐에서 제조과정이 다른 RS의 섭취가 저 열량원으로서 체중감소나 혈액내 지방성분을 낮추는 효과가 있는지를 알아보는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 연구방법으로 실험동물은 생후 4주된 Sprague-Dawl ey계 수컷 흰쥐로, 지방을 식이 무게의 20%, 콜레스테롤이 식이 무게의 1%로 첨가 된 고지방식이로 6주를 사육시켜 비만과 고콜레스테롤증을 유발시켰다. 고콜레스테롤이 유발된 실험동물은 섭취하는 전분의 형태가 다른 실험식이로 4주간을 더 사육하였고 사육기간이 끝난 실험동물들은 희생하여 생화학적인 실험- 혈액과 간의 총지방양, 중성지방양, 콜레스테롤양을 측정하였고, 면역능력으로 비장세포 증식, 혈장내 IgG, $C_3$양을 측정하였고. 혈장내 leptin 양을 측정하였다. 실험결과는 체중과 체내 저장지방무게가 난소화성전분 혼합군(RSNE)에서 유의적으로 감소하였다. 혈장내 지방성분을 보면, 총 지방의 경우 고지방대조군(HC)이 저지방 대조군(LC)에 비래 유의적으로 높았으며, RS를 섭취하면 유의적으로 낮아지는 경향을 보여 저지방을 섭취한 LC군에 비해서 낮은 수치를 나타내고 있다. 혈장 중성지방은 저지방 즉 고 탄수화물식이를 섭취하는 LC군이 유의적으로 높았으며 고지방을 섭취하는 경우는 실험군에 차이가 없었다. 혈장 총 콜레스테롤은 LC군에 비해 고지방과 콜레스테롤을 섭취하는 HC군이 유의적으로 높았으며. RSNE군에서는 유의적인 감소를 보였다. HDL-콜레스테롤에서는 실험군간에 차이가 없었다. 간내 총지방과 콜레스테롤량, 중성지방량은 LC군이 다른 군에 비해 유의적으로 적었으며 고지방섭취군들은 섭취하는 전분의 종류에 따른 차이가 나타나지 않았다. 면역능력을담당하는 체내 기관인 비장세포의 중식능력은 실험군간에 유의적인 차이가 없으나 혈장의 Ig G 양은 RSNE군이 유의적으로 높고, $C_3$ 양은 난소화성 전분 추출군(RSEX)에서 유의적으로 높게 나타났다. 혈장에서의 leptin 농도는 고지방 대조군인 HC군이 유의적으로 높았으며, RSNE군이 LC군과 같이 유의적으로 낮았다. 결론으로 난소화성 전분(RS)를 식이무게의 10%로 첨가하는 수준에서 순수한 RS보다는 RS제조과정 중 순수한 RS를 분리하기 전 단계인 RS를 포함한 전분이 체중감소, 체내 저장지방감소, 혈액 내 콜레스테롤을 저하시키는 효과를 보였다. 그러므로 RS의 섭취는 섭취형태에 따라 저 열량원으로, 혈액 내 지방성분을 낮추는 효과를 가진 기능성 식품소재로 사용될 수 있을 것이다.

Critical Review of Simulation Training's Effects on Nursing Students (간호학생을 대상으로 한 시뮬레이션 실습 효과에 대한 비판적 고찰)

  • This study was undertaken to analyze the intervening effect of nursing simulation among nursing students. This was a critical review study, and data obtained were reviewed using various data bases, including RISS, KISS, NDSL, DBpia, and KRI. The terminologies entered in the data base were nursing and simulation. Selected studies were assessed for methodological quality; and narrative, descriptive or one group post-test studies were excluded from the analysis. Ed. Notes: Please review for accuracy. I have suggested the edit to the best of my understanding. Finally, 234 studies were included for investigation. Results included studies of nursing simulation intervention in Korea, commencing from 2008. One group pre-post test and two group post test were more designed in journals comparing to master thesis or doctoral dissertation. Clinical practice was the most frequently studied aspect by both the assessor and student in the two groups' pre-post test design. Nursing competences associated with dependent variables during simulation were integrated skills, critical thinking, communication, cooperation, professional recognition and leadership. The two groups pre-post design explored more varied competences as compared to other designs. Considering the results obtained, we conclude that simulation intervention is an effective teaching method for nursing students to help improve their clinical practice. However, further studies are required to assess the impact of critical thinking and problem solving.

Modification of Gamma-radiation Response in Mice by Green Tea and Diethyldithiocarbamate (마우스에서 방사선 영향에 대한 녹차와 Diethyldithiocarbamate의 조절효과)

  • We performed this study to determine the effect of green tea on jejunal crypt survival, endogenous spleen colony formation, and apoptosis in jejunal crypt cells of mice irradiated with high and low dose of gammairradiation. The radioprotective effect of green tea was compared with the effect of diethyldithiocarbamate (DDC). Jejunal crypts were protected by pretreatment of green tea (p<0.01). Green tea administration before irradiation resulted in an increase of the formation of endogenous spleen colony (p<0.05). The frequency of radiation-induced apoptosis in intestinal crypt cells was also reduced by pretreatment of green tea (p<0.05). The radioprotective effect on jejunal crypts and apoptosis in the DDC treated group appeared similar to those in the green tea treated groups. Treatment with DDC showed no significant modifying effects on the formation of endogenous spleen colony. These results indicated that green tea might be a useful radioprotector, especially since it is a relatively nontoxic natural product. Further studies are needed to characterize better the promotion nature of green tea and its components.

Effect of Glue Plant(Codium Fragile) on Physicochemical Characteristics of Dongchimi During Fermentation (청각채가 동치미의 발효 중 이화학적 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • The effect of glue plant(Codium fragile) on the Dongchimi fermentation was investigated by measuring physicochemical properties during fermentation at $10^{\circ}C$. Dongchimi was prepared with various levels(0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5%) of glue plant(Codium fragile). The pH of Dongchimi decreased slowly in all samples during fermentation. Total acidity of Dongchimi increased gradually during fermentation and total acidity of Dongchimi with glue plant(Codium fragile) was higher than that of control. Redox potentials decreased until 30 days of fermentation but increased thereafter. Reducing sugar content increased in the initial stage of the fermentation periods, and then decreased gradually. The reducing sugar content of Dongchimi with glue plant(Codium fragile) was higher than that of control. The content of total vitamin C was much higher in dongchimi with glue plant(Codium fragile). In color measurement, lightness value decreased gradually. However, redness and yellowness values increased gradually during fermentation but decreased thereafter. The content of hot water soluble pectin(HWSP) decreased as the fermentation proceeded, but the content of hydrochloric acid soluble pectin(HClSP) and sodium hexametaphosphate soluble pectin(NaSP) increased.

Effect of Diets with Red Yeast Sweet Potato Powder Supplement on Fecal Amount and Lipid Metabolism in Rats Fed a High-fat Diet (홍국고구마가 고지방식이를 급여한 흰쥐의 배변량 및 지질대사에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was performed to investigate the effects of a diet with a red yeast sweet potato supplement on fecal amount and lipid metabolism in male Sprague-Dawley rats fed a high-fat diet for 10 weeks. Rats were fed a high-fat diet (15% fat) with additional lard (7%) and cholesterol (1%) based on AIN-93G basal diet (7% fat) for 6 weeks during the first phase. In the second phase, which lasted 4 weeks, the rats divided into four experimental groups which were composed of a high-fat diet group as a control (CON), a high-fat diet with 5% white-fleshed sweet potato supplement group (WFSP), a high-fat diet with 5% red yeast sweet potato supplement group (RYSP), and a high-fat diet with 5% purple-fleshed sweet potato supplement group (PFSP). The fecal amount of group RYSP increased significantly during the second phase compared to the other groups (p<0.05). The fecal total cholesterol (TC) and triglyceride (TG) content of group RYSP were also highest among all experimental groups. The serum TC and TG were shown to have the lowest levels in the group RYSP, and LDL-cholesterol levels were significantly decreased in groups RYSP and PFSP than in group CON (p<0.05). These results indicate that supplementation with red yeast sweet potato seemed to be effective in increasing feces and fecal lipid excretion, and also in decreasing serum lipid levels in rats fed a high-fat diet.

Development and Effect of the Feeding Protocol for Preterm Infants (미숙아의 수유 프로토콜 개발 및 적용)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a feeding protocol for premature infants and to evaluate the effects of protocol. Methods: The feeding protocol was developed through a literature review and discussions of an expert group. The developed feeding protocol was tested with 85 preterm infants in one neonatal intensive care unit in B city. A non-equivalent control group non-synchronized design was used. Data were collected from January 1 to April 30, 2013 for the control group and from June 1 to September 30, 2013 for the experimental group. The experimental group (n=38) received the feeding protocol, whereas the control group (n=47) had routine feeding care. Collected data were analyzed by t-test and -test using SPSS/WIN version 18.0. Results: First feeding time (t=2.22, p=.029) and full enteral feeding time (t=2.28, p=.026) were significantly decreased in the experimental group compared to the control group. There was no difference in incidence of complications (p>.05). Also no significant differences in weight reduction rate between the two groups were observed at the 7th postnatal day (t=-1.23, p=.222). Conclusion: The results indicate that the feeding protocol for preterm infants is effective in decreasing first feeding time and full enteral feeding time.

Effects of the Red Garlic Extract for Anti-Obesity and Hypolipidemic in Obese Rats Induced High Fat Diet (홍마늘 추출물이 고지방식이로 유도된 비만 흰쥐의 항비만 및 지질개선에 미치는 영향)

  • This study tested the anti-obesity and hypolipidemic effects of red garlic extract in obese rats induced by a high fat diet over a period of 4 weeks. Red garlic extract of 15 brix was added in 1, 3, 5 and 7% ratios in diets. The obesity index and body fat content significantly decreased in rats fed a diet with over 3% red garlic extract compared to the control group. There was no significant difference in weight of visceral and epididymal fat in rats fed red garlic extract. Total lipid and triglyceride levels in serum were significantly decreased in a dose-dependent manner, and AI and CRF also fell. ALT and AST activities in groups fed red garlic extract were decreased compared to the control group. Total lipid level in liver tissue of the groups fed 5-7% red garlic extract exhibited a significant decrease compared to the control group. Total cholesterol and triglyceride levels in feces were significantly increased in rats fed a diet with over 5% red garlic extract. Lipid peroxide levels were significantly decreased in the groups fed diets with 5-7% red garlic and antioxidant activity in serum was significantly increased in the group fed a diet with 7% red garlic extract compared to the control group. Our results suggest that red garlic extract could have anti-obesity and hypolipidemic effects for suppressing obesity index and decreasing lipid profiles.
