  • The Back garden in Wanggung-ri Site, Iksan clearly presents an aspect of the landscape gardening techniques of the Baekje, which are significantly unique in the landscape gardening history of East Asia as the structure connected to the main garden through a complex waterway system on a hill. The rear garden has a complex waterway system comprising a large inverted U-shape waterway and its branch waterways, sinuous waterway and water catchment system to enhance the landscape effect with a minimum amount of water on a hill, reducing damage by floods in the case of heavy rain and securing the amount of water required by the main space in the palace. A landscape element using various kinds and sizes of oddly shaped rocks decorated the water catchment area inside or around the large inverted U-shape waterway. On the top of the hill, the center in the Back garden, a building site in the size of 4 Kans each on the front and side was made on a square base surrounded by a round base stone. The building was identified on a space partially surrounded by the rectangular stonework on the left and right slope of the hill. While the functions and roles of the rectangular stonework are not accurately identified due to the poor conditions of the present site, the stonework may be related to the building inside it. The back garden in Wanggung-ri Site, Iksan has a winding pond-shaped waterway to pull or push water into or out of the garden in a rectangular pond shape, which was a conventional landscape gardening technique during the Baekje period. Since the main garden and the back garden in Wanggung-ri Site, Iksan form a systematic connection system, this paper tried to newly establish the main garden inside Iksan Wanggungseong as the 'royal garden'.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate elementary school landscaping. The landscaping has intrinsic value for educational purpose as well as an open space resource in urban area. Four elementary schools in Taegu were surveyed and analyzed to identify the ratio of greenery, green volume and its maintenance. The result can be summarized as follows: 1. While 58 species of trees were quoted all over the text book, 17 to 52 species were found in each school and only few species were always dominant in each school. 2. The greenery and green volume were insufficient in terms of quantity and inadequate in placement, and there were differences in landscaping quality and quantity between schools. However the differences were not associated with the age of schools. 3. Functional implementations of landscaping technique(for example, environmental control) were needed for future landscaping of elementary schools.

  • Green roofs are being created in various purposes to use spaces. Most of them have been built with a goal as a resting place. However, the use of the green roofs needs to be raised. Otherwise, maintenance and administration of green roofs can be loosened. In addition, budget or cost involved can be wasteful. Therefore, this study makes a proposition if the satisfaction of green roofs is higher, the use of green roofs could be increased more. We are willing to analyze how beneficial the awareness can affect for the satisfaction with regard to green roofs. The findings can be helpful to provide a foundation data for raising the use of green roofs. We believe that the awareness benefits and satisfaction could be different depending on the facility's status on green roofs. Therefore, we classified green roofs of 11 department stores, in Seoul, into four types. Among them, we paid attention to five department stores that were able to represent each type. We analyzed the awareness benefits and satisfaction depending on the type of green roofs. We analyzed casual relationships between them using Structural Equation Modeling. We expect that the landscape architecture scholars will expand research on the various determinants in using green roof. een Roof; Type of Green Roof; Benefit Awareness; Satisfaction; Structural Equation Modeling;
