  • A study on the enhancement of the dewaterability of sewage sludge was carried out by using the sea waste materials as a dewatering aid. It was made from a starfish and a shell by heating at $105∼700 ^{\circ}C$ and centrifuge and belt press were used as a mechanical dewatering process. The moisture content of sludge cake was reduced by 15∼22% (w/w) after addition of the dewatering aid at the dose of 1∼8 g/100mL of digested sludge. CST (capillary suction time) was measured to evaluate the effect of dewatering aid on sludge dewatering properties. CST was reduced after addition of a shell while increased after addition of a starfish. Enhancement of dewaterability after addition of a shell was better than that of a starfish. The heating temperature effect of the dewatering aid on dewaterability was not clear.

  • This paper explain about the development of environmental friendly, low cost and stable supply material i.e., rice husk and shell were used as micro incorporating bio waste filler. Those were processed by ball mill and analyzed through micro observation by FE-SEM, EDS and particle size distribution. The obtained filler was mixed with epoxy resin for the manufacturing of CFRP composite and study tensile properties. In EDS analysis main contents of rice husk and rice husk ash are C, O and Si. When rice husk was burned C and Si ration were increased. Shell powder has C, O and Ca. It caused $CaCO_3$ from shell. Surface weighted mean of rice husk powder is $6.19{\mu}m$ and volume weighted mean is $14.77{\mu}m$. And it has rod type particles which caused hair and husk structure parts. Surface weighted mean of rice husk ash powder is $1.55{\mu}m$ and volume weighted means is $8.20{\mu}m$. Surface weighted mean of shell powder is $2.53{\mu}m$ and volume weighted mean is $5.79{\mu}m$. The tensile decreased with increasing the content of micro filler in CFRP composites. In case of rice husk, the significant decrement of tensile strength was observed. and in case of shell powder, there is no effect of changes take place in tensile strength.

  • With the addition of ethanol to wax gourd extract and by acetic fermentation, 5.0% acidity vinegar was produced. After putting 10% extract(10% concentration) of Chrysanthemum zawadskii in this, and by dissolving shell, Chrysanthemum zawadskii-pearl vinegar was produced. When a 1% of ark shell, oyster shell, or ear shell was added to wax gourd vinegar, 95.6~98.4% of the shell dissolved, and when a 2% content of shell was added, 97.2~98.4% was dissolved. The acidity of vinegar which dissolved 1% shell was pH 3.0~3.17, and the acidity of vinegar which dissolved 2% shell was pH 1.11~ 1.20. The pH values of vinegar which dissolved 1%, and 2% shell contents were 4.54~4.55, and 4.86~4.95, respectively. When 1% shell was dissolved, the acidity was higher than that of commercial vinegar, with a high pH value and low level of free acid. This shows that when Chrysanthemum zawadskii 1% is added during acetic acid fermentation, the inhibition was 44.4%, and 22.2% respectively. In this regard, Chrysanthemum zawadskii should be added after the fermentation of acetic acid. The calcium content of 1% shell vinegar is 0.4%, and that of 2% vinegar is 0.78%. Non-heated native wax gourd shows an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibition rate of 21.7%, an antioxidant activity of 5.23%, and a tyrosinase inhibition rate of 5.5%. In the case of heated-extracted wax gourd, the angiotensin converting enzyme inhibition rate was 16.1%, superoxide dismutase activity was 20.5%, antioxidant activity was 23.2%, and the tyrosinase inhibition rate was 7.1%. Also, in the case of Chrysanthemum zawadskii, the angiotensin converting enzyme inhibition rate was 28.8%, the xanthine oxidase inhibition rate was 28.2%, the superoxide dismutase activity was 14.5%, the antioxidant activity was 3.2%, and the tyrosinase inhibition rate was 9.2% Data also revealed that when a 10% sample of the heated-wax gourd extract was added to A549 human lung cancer epithelial cells of, the number of cancer cells declined by 80% in 72 hours, When a 10% native extract was added, the number of cells declined by, 74% in 48 hours, and when a heated-extract of Chrysanthemum zawadskii was added, 100% of the cells died after 72 hours.

  • This study attempted to fortify Kimchi with water extracts of shells of shellfishes (corb shell, short neck clam, taste clam, ark shell, top shell, oyster) as natural resource of calcium. Kimchi added with the shell extracts in 5% were fermented at 1$0^{\circ}C$ with measurements in chemical, microbiological and sensory qualities. Calcium content of shellfish shells before water extraction was in the range of 25.57~38.78%. Kimchi added with the extracts showed higher pH, lower acidity, lower total aerobic bacterial count and higher lactic acid bacteria count compared to control Kimchi without any addition. After 7 day fermentation the Kimchi added with the extracts also showed higher ash and calcium contents compared to control products (3.3~5.0 vs. 2.8~3.0% and 300~376 vs. 70~95 mg%). Kimchi with oyster shell extract gave the most pronounced effect in ash and calcium contents. The addition of extract made Kimchi crisper and less sourer oganoleptically. In the overall acceptability, the Kimchi fortified with the shell extracts were better than control after 14 day fermentation.
