  • Despite numerous studies, research on ginseng in aspect of an economic and business perspective are insufficient. Recently, research to reveal the economic cause of ginseng products purchase is drawing attention. The purpose of this study is to analyze empirically the factors of ginseng products purchase by international consumers from a microeconomic perspective. Using the survey data, we empirically investigate the determinants of ginseng products purchase by international consumers visiting Korea. We use a multinomial logistic model to find the determinants that influence the purchase of ginseng products. This study finds the followings. First, the economic factor is an important determinant of ginseng products purchase. The average daily expenditure has a greater impact on ginseng products purchase than household income does. Even though the average daily expenditure is high, they tend to buy less ginseng products when they prefer other products. Second, demographically, gender and age are also important determinants of ginseng products purchase. It has been found that elderly male consumers are more likely to buy ginseng products. Third, international consumers for leisure purposes have a higher probability of buying ginseng products than tourism consumers for other purposes do. Finally, destination attributes such as security (safety), ease of use of mobile/Internet, and ease of finding directions are also important factors affecting ginseng products purchase. In addition, it is found that the convenience of using the mobile/Internet, the ease of finding directions, and the convenience of shopping increase the probability of buying ginseng products by international consumers. This study is meaningful in that it explored the determinants of ginseng products purchase by analyzing individual consumers' ginseng products choices.

  • With concerns for consumers' return behaviors affecting internet shopping malls' profits and product management in the internet clothing market, this study is designed to investigate determinants affecting return and path models for return behaviors. For an empirical study, questionnaires are prepared and respondents in their 20s and 30s with internet clothing purchase experience are selected using the convenience sampling. A total of 517 questionnaires are used for the final analysis. Data are analyzed by using SPSS 12.0 software and descriptive statistics, $x^2$-test, discriminant analysis, regression analysis, and path analysis is conducted. The results are as follows. First, ones who have returned after purchasing clothing items in internet shopping reached 63.4% of the total consumers. Respondents returned items with price at 50 thousand won or less stood at 67.2%, and the most frequent return shopping malls are open markets with their return rate at 51.1%. Second, variables such as risk perception, information search, impulse buying, buying experience, and age have a positive effect on return experience. Impulse buying and buying experience turn out to have a significant effect on the degree of return, but risk perception, information search, age, and gender to have an insignificant effect. Return intention is significantly affected by risk perception, gender, and age. Third, the analysis of path model for return experience shows that perceived risk has a positively effect, and information search has a direct effect as well as an indirect effect through buying experience or impulse buying. The analysis of path model for the degree of return shows that risk perception does not have effect, but information search has indirect effect through buying experience or impulse buying. This study is thought to find consumers' return behavior characteristics in online shopping, and help businesses operating online shopping malls to efficiently manage returns and set up strategies against returns.

  • We sought to define the main motivational factors promoting consumption of Prunus mume products. We surveyed both specialized high-volume consumers and public consumers, and focused on consumption of and preferences for Prunus mume and Prunus mume products. We investigated how products were preferentially consumed, purchase experience, purchase location, purchase price, consumption experience, factors important in a purchase decision, preference factors, dissatisfaction factors, consumption outlook, comments on new processed foods, and activation of consumption. A total of 534 responses were received and data were analyzed using the SAS program (Version 9.1) of the Frequency test; Chi-square test was used to detect significant factors. A greater percentage of high-volume(compared with low-volume) consumers processed personal products at home. The public consumer tended to buy commercial products. However, public consumers who were older, who had higher incomes, and who were heads of households, tended to both buy commercial products and to prepare foods at home. The common purchase methods used by high-volume consumers were internet and direct marketing, but the public consumer frequented department stores and hypermarkets. High-volume consumers observed that commercial products were expensive, and such consumers seemed to be particularly cost-sensitive. The decisive factor triggering purchase decisions in high-volume consumers was the geographical origin of the fruit, whereas the public consumer was more concerned with taste. In public, positive factors were that the product was good for health and had a pleasant taste. Some of those surveyed complained of a lack of variety in Prunus mume products and that the amount of Prunus mume in certain products was low. To promote and increase consumption, convenient-to-eat products with healthy images are needed.
