CORE $SHELL^{TM}$: THE LATEST INNOVATION IN POLYMER TECHNOLOGY FOR THE PAPER INDUSTRY (코어쉘 : 제지산업에 있어서 고분자 기술의 최근 혁신)

  • A new polymer technology commercialized with the name of Core Shell has been developed by Ondeo Nalco Company. Laboratory evaluations have demonstrated that Core Shell polymers produce a floc with high shear resistance, making them the flocculants of choice for modern high-speed paper machines. Core Shell polymers provide significant papermaking benefits, when used as single component or in combination with microparticles. At this time, the new program has been successfully applied on more than 60 paper and board machines across the world. Implementation of Core Shell polymers with or without a microparticle provided better and more stable retention values and improvements in paper quality, system cleanliness and machine runnability.

  • 1. 서론 : Nanofiltration(NF)은 분자량이 200-1000인 유기물과 음이온 및 다가 이온등을 일가 이온으로부터 선택적으로 분리함으로써 유기물의 농축과 이온의 선택적인 분리를 동시에 행할 수 있는 분리 공정이며, 순수의 제조, 과일과 야채주스의 농축, 저알콜 맥주와 와인의 제조, 낙농 산업에서 유제품의 농축, 섬유공업에서 염료와 이온의 분리 및 제지공업의 폐수 처리 등에 응용되고 있다. NF용 막재료로는 셀룰로오스 계열의 고분자나 폴리아미드, 폴리술폰, PAN등이 연구되어 왔으며 최근에는 친수성이 좋고 가교를 하지 않고도 이온 결합에 의하여 강도를 유지할 수 있다는 아이오노머의 성질을 이용하여 아이오너마를 Nanofiltration용 막재료로 이용하려는 연구가 이루어지고 있다.[1-3] 그러나 아이오노머의 미세구조와 유기물의 분리특성간의 관계에 관한 연구는 미흡한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 분리막의 성형성을 향상시키고자 알킬메타크릴레이트가 도입된 아이오너머를 합성하고 알킬기의 길이나 이온의 함량 등 고분자의 구조에 따른 아이오노머막의 분리특성을 연구하여 아이오노머막의 NF용막으로서의 응용가능성을 살펴보았다.

  • The recent market trend of demand and supply of domestic paper industry expected confusion in near future due to massive imports of low cost product because of suddenly emerging of China's mass productive equipment and capacity. Related domestic industry is deploying joint co-coperative partnership and logistic service, joint operations of transportation and distribution center and innovation activity for customer satisfaction. This paper tries to present a solution through analysis of related paper industry a case study.

  • 열린 경영, 일터혁신, 노사화합, 인적자원 개발 등 최근의 노사문화는 다양한 위기를 극복해 나가며 한층 발전해 나가고 있다. 이 가운데 요즘 특히 강조되고 있는 것이 바로 노사의 상생과 협력이다. 회사를 꾸려나가는 중심축에는 경영진은 물론 근로자들이 자리 잡고 있다는 인식이 바탕에 깔리면서 대내외적인 어려움을 함께 해결해 나가고 있는 것이다. 이는 안전 분야에도 그대로 적용된다. 사업장의 사정을 가장 잘 알고 있는 경영진과 근로자들이 합심해 산재예방활동을 전개하는 것이 대표적인 경우라고 할 수 있다. 이런 활동이 활발하게 진행되고 있는 곳이 바로 대명기업이다. 울산에 위치해 있는 대명기업은 지난 1995년 한국제지의 협력업체로 시작했다. 그리고 현재 이곳은 82명의 근로자들이 일을 하고 있을 정도로 성장했다. 이곳 임직원들은 이처럼 회사가 발전할 수 있었던 가장 큰 원동력으로 노사가 함께 안전을 최우선으로 여긴 것을 꼽는다. 노사 협력 속에서 근로자들의 안전과 복지를 가장우선시하고 있는 대명기업을 찾아가 봤다.

  • 레이저를 이용한 속도측정은 비접촉식 정밀측정이라는 장점 때문에 산업현장의 생산라인에서 온-라인 계측장비로 이용되고 있다. 특히, 철강업에서는 각종 설비의 제어를 위한 속도측정이나 연신률 측정 및 길이측정에 활용되고 있으며 제지분야나 고무생산 현장에서도 계측장비로 활용성이 점점 높아지고 있다. 본 연구는 레이저를 이용하여 비접촉식 속도계(Laser Doppler Velocimeter; LDV)를 제작하고 특성을 연구하였다. 기본 원리는 두 개의 레이저 빔을 측정대상의 한 지점에 입사시키고 이 지점에서 산란된 빛의 세기를 광검지기로 측정한 후 광검지기 출력의 주파수를 분석하여 측정대상의 속도를 산출하는 방법으로 두 개의 레이저 빔의 주파수가 같은 homodyne type과 주파수가 다른 heterodyne type으로 나누어지고 있다. Heterodyne type의 LDV 시스템은 속도값과 함께 측정대상의 이동방향을 알 수 있고, 측정신호가 고주파 대역에 있으므로 레이저의 불안정성이나 전원잡음 등에 의한 저주파 잡음을 용이하게 제거할 수 있는 장점을 가지고 있다. (중략)

  • Pulp and paper industry is a typical plant industry which usually consume lots of water and energy. Recently, environmental issues have become more important due to climate changes around the world, and reinforcement in the regulatory content in transfer and management of chemical material and that in environmental regulations for waste water and air. Paper industry is a source material recycle industry which recycle or reuse waste paper, recyclable wood, planned plantation or lumber from thinning and waste wood. Hence it can be said that paper industry is the representative industry for earth environment and of 21th century.

  • This study was carried out to understand the present status of the quality evaluation capability of domestic fine paper industry. Six light weight coated papers and one wood containing printing and writing paper with similar basis weights were produced by seven paper companies and their properties were evaluated at four different testing laboratories of domestic fine paper mills. Paper properties including basis weight , thickness , tensile, tear , brightness , opacity, etc were examined , and the repeat ability and reproducibility of the test results were analyzed. Results showed that repeatability of the measurements within the laboratory was satisfactory . Reproducibility of the measurements between laboratories, however, was not satisfactory. This showed that strict implementation of the standard testing methods and periodic calibration of testing equipments should be made to improve quality evaluation capability of domestic fine paper industry.

  • Introduction : Isothiazolinone product is one of new preservatives used in cooling tower, paper mill, and general industrial waters.l) It is also effective in controlling bacteria and fungi in the manufacture and storage of dispersed pigments, such as kaolin clays, titanium dioxide, calcium carbonate and others\ulcorner Its broad-spectrum activity, excellent physical and chemical compatibility with anionic, nonionic and cationic surfactants and most organic and inorganic compounds and low toxicity at recommended use levels provide formulators with an effective, economical, and environmentally acceptable alternative to other commercial biocides. It dose not contain or generate formaldehyde and is easy to formulate (1.5% solution is supplied as an aqueous solution), so that it gains advantage over the other preservatives. The active ingredients of the isothiazolinone product are unchlorinated compound (2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one) and chlorinated one (5-chloro-2-methyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one). Methods preferred for the analysis of preservatives are chromatographic methods, especially high performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC). Although several methods were satisfactory in respect to separation, no offical method has been published for the isothiazolinone components. This study was performed to search for an alternative method in order to show flexible operating conditions of HPLC and to reduce assay time.

  • Neutral red5 (BR 5) adsorption from aqueous solution was investigated. New solid adsorbent was prepared from paper sludge incinerated at $250^{\circ}C$ during 2 hours. Experiments were carried out, in batch system, to remove RB5 dye from the synthetic waste water. Maximum adsorption of 374.98 mg/g at pH 5, at room temperature and contact time of 80 min was obtained. The Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption models were applied to interpret the equilibrium isotherm. The Freundlich isotherm fits quite well with the experimental data (with highly regression coefficient $R^2$). The incinerated sludge solid samples untreated and treated with BR5 dye were characterized by FT-IR spectrophotometer.

Searching for the environmental management plans of Korea paper industry coping with the new climate regime (신 기후체제 협약에 따른 국내 제지산업의 환경경영 방안 모색)

  • The new climate regime for practical reduction in green house gas(GHG) emissions was launched in Paris at Dec. 2015. The Korea government would make various policies and plans in order to achieve the BAU 37 % emission reduction goals by 2030. In this study, the current situation and the possible corresponding methodology to the GHG emission reduction of Korea paper industry were investigated. Although the GHG emission reduction in KOREA paper industry has been successfully conducted compared with other industries until now, the more efforts for controlling GHG emission would be required to meet the new climate regime. The efficiency of various GHG reduction projects conducted by Korea paper companies was evaluated to find efficient way for GHG reduction. The certified methodologies of the external project based offset systems in Korea GHG emission trading scheme were also reviewed for providing the possible way to develope tailored methodology to the Korea paper industry.
