Jeju has many out-of-town cultural areas owing to its low accessibility to concert halls. Based on data from Jeju in 2019, this study selected possible sites for concert halls and examined the location status of existing concert halls in Jeju by utilizing GIS analysis. As a result, directions on location selection are proposed for the western and eastern parts of Jeju, where accessibility to concert halls is relatively difficult. Considering the theory, prior research, and the regional characteristics of Jeju, the directions for location selection exclude residential areas and areas with little accessibility. They also list good points for accessibility within areas that have little of it, that are distant from administrative dong areas in Jeju-si and Seogwipo-si, that have friendly natural scenery, and that already have accessible public transportation. Accordingly, four places were proposed as possible areas for construction of a concert hall in 2020. This study is expected to contribute to cultural marketing that makes the Jeju area a Cultural Island.
Cheju and Oahu island are similar in geology, characterized by same types of volcanic activities during the late Tertiary to the early Quaternary. The occurrence of groundwater in both islands depend on two basic elements, permeability of volcanic rocks and precipitation. However, groundwater occurrence in Oahu is much more controlled by dike complex in the regional volcanic rocks. There are two different types of groundwater in both islands. One is perched groundwater standing at any high altitude, and the other is basal groundwater developed near the coastal area. The groundwater quality of Cheju island is good in general for drinking. But many wells near the eastern coastal area are salt intruded due to over pumping activities and the area of salt water intrusion has increased landward from the year of 1970. This feature of salt water contamination is similar at Pearl Harbour in Oahu island. In order to prevent this salt water contamination into fresh groundwater reservoir on Cheju island, it is urgently asked to make groundwater flow study along the coastal area on terms of groundwater potentials and their maximum ultimate exploration.

This paper examined characteristics of folk houses related to climate in Cheju island using climate data, documents and field survey data. Precipitation and humidity affect characteristics of folk houses in the southern parts of the island during summer while in winter, northern parts are mainly affected by wind. Chuck-gub has been shown through all over Cheju island due to the characteristics of precipitation. Jaechangmoon exists in southern parts of the island and these parts are experienced high humidity in summer The double-row room houses, the low eaves, gentle slop roof and stone wall are distributed through Cheju island and is related to wind. The double door is common in the northern parts because of strong winter monsoon, and Yimoonkan exists in the coastal area of the northern parts. Outer wall, Pung-Che and Gorangche are affected by winter monsoon and abundant precipitation. Gorangche has shown through both the northern parts and southeastern parts. Folk houses in the southern parts are more open than in northern parts. Folk houses in the northern parts are divided into the coastal type and the piedmont type. In the southern parts, they are subdivided the eastern type and the western type by the appearance of Gorangche.

In this study, the AERMOD air diffusing model was used to estimate the range of influence of Hazardous chemicals (hydrogen fluoride) in case of small accidents in Jeju area. The impact scope were in the order of Seogwipo Fire Station, Dongbu Fire Station, Jeju Fire Station, and Seobu Fire Station. Seasonal orders were summer, spring, autumn and winter. The correlation between the meteorological factors shows a strong positive correlation with the wind speed of 0.998 and has a negative correlation with the temperature of -0.463. Through the linear regression analysis, we could estimate the equation of Impact scope = 13.922WS (Wind Speed) - 5.195 and the reliability ($R^2$) was as high as 0.995.

This study aims to analyze the accidence of tourist safety accidents in Jeju using GIS and to expand the understanding of tourist safety accidents in the Jeju area. For this purpose, the eastern part of Jeju was selected as the study area, with the research period set for the entire year of 2021. The analysis utilized data on tourist safety accidents and emergency dispatch data resulting from these accidents in Jeju throughout 2021. Based on this safety accident data, an initial analysis was conducted on the accidence of tourist safety accidents across Jeju Island. This analysis identified patterns in the occurrence of tourist safety accidents by month, time, and location. Subsequently, using spatial data, grid analysis, and overlay analysis, the study examined the status of tourist safety accidents and emergency dispatches to identify vulnerable areas. Through this GIS analysis of tourist safety accidents, the study highlights the need for preventive and responsive measures considering the activity characteristics of tourists. It emphasizes the necessity of proactive preventive measures such as inspecting tourist facilities and promoting safety accident prevention, particularly in vulnerable areas..

Water sources in volcanic Jeju Island are almost entirely dependent on groundwater because there are actually no perennial streams or rivers due to the permeable nature of surface soils derived from basaltic or trachytic rocks. Uncontrolled development of groundwater resulted in substantial water-level decline, groundwater pollution, and seawater intrusion in several places of the island. To maintain its sustainable groundwater, the provincial government has declared some parts of the island as the Special Groundwater Conservation/Management Area since 1994. Hence, all the activities for the groundwater development in the area should obtain official permit from relevant authorities. Furthermore, to acquire information on groundwater status, a network of groundwater monitoring was established to cover most of the low land and coastal areas with the installation of automatic monitoring systems since 2001. The analysis of the groundwater monitoring data indicated that the water levels had decreased at coastal area, especially in northern part of the island. Moreover, very high electrical conductivity (EC) levels and their increasing trends were observed in the eastern part, which was ascribable to seawater intrusion by intensive pumping in recent years. Water level decline and EC rise in the coastal area are expected to continue despite the present strict control on additional groundwater development.

This study was carried out to reveal the genetic population structure of the Jeju Island population and the phylogenetic relationship of East Asian populations of the large-footed bat (Myotis macrodactylus) based on the genetic polymorphisms of mitochondrial cytochrome B (CYTB) and NADH dehydrogenase subunit 1 (ND1) gene sequences. A total of fourteen and nine haplotypes were found in the CYTB and ND1 sequences from East Asian bats, respectively. Haplotype distribution showed locality specific patterns. The results from ND1 haplotype analysis showed that the Jeju Island population has four haplotypes: the Mt. Halla and Western subpopulations have three ND1 haplotypes, but the Eastern subpopulation has just a single haplotype Nd03, which is commonly found on this island. The neighbor-joining (NJ) tree showed the closer relationship between Jeju Island and Japan rather than that between Jeju and Gangwon-do Province. The divergence time between the maternal ancestor lineages of Japanese and Chinese populations was estimated to be 0.789±0.063 MYBP. The secondary divergence between Jeju and Japanese bats was calculated about to be 0.168±0.013 MYBP. The Jeju population has immigrated to the island at least fifty thousand years ago. In addition, ND1 haplotype analysis suggested that the insular bats have experienced at least two further genetic differentiation events within this island. Consequently, these findings suggested that the results of this study may play a critical role in understanding the phylogenetic relationship among East Asian bat populations of M. macrodactylus. To prepare more explainable information on evolutionary correlation, analysis is still required to examine using expanded samples from China, Russia, and southern parts of the Korean Peninsula.
This study was intended to elucidate the petrography and geochemical characteristics of the Someori Basalt in the Udo monogenetic volcano, eastern Jeju Island. The Someori basalts consist of plagioclase, olivine, orthopyroxene, clinopyroxene and ilmenite. The Someori basalts are plotted into subalkali rock series on the TAS diagram, and belong to tholeiitic basalts in the diagram of alkali index against to Al₂O₃ contents. The basalts belong to tholeiitic rock series, having normative quartz (less than 3.9%) + hypersthene + diopside.
