The behavior of earth retention wall installed in cut slope is different from the behavior of retention wall applied in urban excavation. In order to establish the design method of anchored retention walls in cut slope, the behavior of anchored retention wall can be investigated and checked in detail. In this study, the behavior of anchored retention wall was investigated by instrumentation installed in cut slope for an apartment construction stabilized by a row of piles. The horizontal displacement of anchored retention wall was larger than the displacement of slope soil behind the wall at the early stage of excavation. As the excavation depth became deeper, the horizontal displacement of slope soil was larger than the displacement of anchored retention wall. It means that the horizontal displacement of anchored retention wall due to excavation is restrained by soldier pile stiffness and jacking force of anchor. Jacking force of anchor was mainly influenced in the horizontal displacement of anchored retention wall. The displacements of anchored retention wall and slope soil were affected mainly by an rainfall infiltrated from the ground surface. Meanwhile, the horizontal displacement of anchored retention wall with slope backside was about 2-6 times larger than the displacement of anchored retention wall with horizontal backside of excavation.
In the case of excavating ground backfilled with soft ground, ground destruction occurs owing to the discharge of groundwater from excavated back ground in spite of earth retaining wall. To minimize this, indoor model test was implemented applying stabilizing pile as a solution for ground destruction. The unreinforced case was compared with the reinforced case and the comparison demonstrated that the ratio of the gap in settlement of the two cases is about three to one, which proves the reinforcement effect (Kim, 2014). This study has carried out the evaluation of appropriate pile spacing ratio, according to the confirmed effect of stabilizing pile. In the evaluation test the case with pile spacing ratio of 0.66 (5 stabilizing piles) was compared with that of 0.76 (3 stabilizing piles), and it has been shown that applying stabilizing pile has effect on ground destruction reduction, but may rather work as load when pile spacing ratio is narrower than a certain interval. So it was found that adjustment for appropriate pile spacing ratio is required at the stage of design. This study has shown that the pile spacing ratio is appropriate at around 0.7~0.8, which reduces ground destruction and does not function as the load of excavated back ground.

The presence of cavitations under pavements or behind tunnel linings of concrete is likely to result in collapse. One method of detecting such voids by non-destructive means is low frequency type radar(GPR). By the way, the size and thickness of small cavitation can't be detected by the present radar technology with low frequency and low resolution when it apply to civil structures like that. To overcome these problems and limitations, this study aims to develope and propose a new analysis method for estimating the depth, cross-sectional size and thickness of cavitations using low frequency radar. A new proposed method is based on the experiments that are carried out for analyzing the correlation between the measurement values(the amplitudes of radar return) of low frequency radar and various type of cavitations. In this process, the threshold value for radar image processing which aims to represent only cavitations to be fitted size can be obtained. As the results, it is clarified that a proposed method has a possibility of estimating cavitation depth, size and thickness with good accuracy in laboratory scale.
In this study, the centrifuge tests were performed to investigate the lateral flow behavior and stability of the ground improved by SCP. The centrifuge tests were fulfilled in the case of the back of abutment filled by EPS (case 1) and soil (case 2), and the potentiometer was installed on the abutment and embankment to measure the vertical and horizontal displacement at the top of abutment. As a result, the vertical displacement measured at the back of abutment was maximum 2.1 m, which was about 12% if compared with the height of embankment. In the case of the back of abutment filled by soil, the vertical and horizontal displacement measured at the top of abutment was 10 cm and 1.1 m, respectively, which exceeded the allowable horizontal displacement. On the other hand, in the case of the back of abutment filled by EPS, the vertical displacement of abutment did nor occur and the horizontal displacement was 1.4 cm. Therefore, the effect of SCP improvement with EPS method adopted to prevent the lateral flow and assure the stability of embankment on the soft ground was far superior.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the elevations of standard rural house designs after the 1990's. Various types of analysis were carried out on a total of 18 different sizes and 50 types of designs with p'yong sizes ranging from 12 to 44. The objects of analysis are the various elevations & the roof types that were supplied in the standard rural house design according to each year 1995 (8 sizes 20 types), 1997 (8 sizes 8 types), 1998 (l size 8 types), 2000 (2 sizes 4 types), 2001 (2 sizes 4 types), and 2004 (3 sizes 6 types). Results from the analysis demonstrate that (1) The gable roof has been used as the roofing type for standard rural house design since 1990. However the roof types of the standard rural house design includes only a few different types of gable roofs and roof materials(most roof types use asphalt shingle). (2) While most front elevations have been altered from asymmetrical to symmetrical most rear elevations have evolved from symmetrical to asymmetrical proportions since the 1990's (3) While siding materials and red-brick were most commonly used the main outer-wall materials prior to 2000, environmentally-friendly materials have been used as outer-wall materials since 2000. (4) In terms of the analysis of outer-wall objects before 2000 the walls were even, yet after 2000 these outer-walls evolved to become concave-convex walls. In other words, the evolution of the outer-wall has included a variety of wall types.

In this study, it was analyzed how the pore pressure behind a subsea tunnel influences on the stability of the tunnel. The tunnel is located in the soft rock layer, and a soft sandy layer and weathered soil layer are located on the top of it. Coupled numerical analyses are performed for both drained and undrained condition with varying coefficients of lateral earth pressure. In the case of undrained conditions, the stability of the tunnel was analyzed with different thicknesses of shotcrete. On the other hand, a sensitivity analysis was performed with different hydraulic conductivities and porosities of the shotcrete for the drained conditions. The stability of a subsea tunnel was evaluated in terms of safety factor suggested by You et al.(2000, 2001, 2005) based on the shear strength reduction technique. In this paper, the safety factor of a tunnel was calculated under steady state flow condition during hydro-mechanical coupled analysis. As a result, it was found that the stability of a subsea tunnel could be rather increased by allowing a proper amount of groundwater inflow into a subsea tunnel.

This study is based on the evaluation of a single component injection type adhesive repair material and a new 2 component type used in leakage of underground concrete structures. The studies showed that based on different mix ratio of the 2 component type adhesive sealant comprised of an asphalt main and latex mixture agent the viscosity of the material compound differed significantly. Based on a permeability testing, injection and economic efficiency, and performance, the appropriate ratio was determined to be 6:1 and was proceeded to the KS F 4935 evaluation method. The 2 component type adhesive sealant uses a static mixer and a cartridge type container for the injection procedure and was able to satisfy the evaluation criteria outlined in the KS F 4935 standard.

This study is concernsed with the effect of a chimney drainage system installed at the back of reinforced soil block on preventing the pore water pressure development. A series of finite-element analyses based on transient seepage analysis were performed for a number of cases with different patterns of the chimney drainage system. The results were thoroughly analyzed to get insight into the mechanism of pore water pressure reduction effect of the chimney drainage system. It is shown that a vertical drainage system installed at the back of reinforced zone can be an effective means of maintaining the wall stability during rainfall by preventing pore pressure increase in the reinforced as well as the backfill zones. Also shown is that the optimum height of the chimney drain is 50% of the wall height. Practical implications of the findings were discussed.
As urbanization and industrialization increase development in downtown areas, damage due to ground settlement continues to occur. Building collapse in urban has a high risk of leading to large-scale damage to life and property. However, there has rarely been studied on measurement data analysis methods when uneven loads are applied to the excavated ground and no prior knowledge of the ground. Accordingly, it was attempted to analyze the relative settlement behavior and correlation by processing the time-series surface settlement of construction sites in the urban. In this paper, the average index of difference in settlement and average of relative difference in settlement are defined and calculated, then plotted in the coordinate system to analyze the relative settlement behavior over time. In addition, since there was no prior knowledge of the ground, a standard to classify the clusters was needed, and the observation points were classified into using k-means clustering and Dunn Index. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that all the clusters moved to the stable region as the settlement amount converges. The clusters were segmented. Based on the analysis results, it was possible to distinguish between the independent displacement area and same behavior area by analyzing the correlation between measurement points. If possible to analyze the relative settlement behavior between the stations and classify the behavior areas, it can be helpful in settlement and stability management, such as uplift of the surrounding area, prediction of ground failure area, and prevention of activity failure.
