  • The bond performance of prestressing strands is still not well understood and is still in controversy on the validity of the test results up to today, although it is a basic information to desing the prestressed pretensioned concrete beams. Different transfer length has been found for a product of the same company, but of the different production methods and factories in the United States. It is necessary to determine optimum transfer bond length of the domestic stands because the ultimate flexural and shear capacity in a section of prestressed concrete beams are evaluated under the assumption that the anchorage bond failure shall not happen. The transfer lenght of low-relaxation, Gr 270, and 1/2" seven-wire prestressing strands from four domestic companies will be evaluated by the concrete strain method. The recent concept of the 95% Maximum Average Strain Method suggested by Russel et al. will be considered to obtain the transfer length of domestic strands. It will be also evaluated if the domestic strands are conform to ACI 318-95.8-95.

  • In the post-tensioned concrete member, additional reinforcement is required to prevent failure in the anchorage zone. In this study, the details of reinforcement suitable for the anchorage zone of the post-tensioned concrete member using circular anchorage was proposed based on the experimental results. The tests were conducted with the compressive strength of concrete and reinforcement types as variables. The experimental results indicated that the additional reinforcement for the anchorage zone is required when the compressive strength of concrete is less than 17.5 MPa. U-shaped reinforcement shows most effective performance in terms of maximum strength and cracks patterns.

  • CFRP tendons have been attempted in concrete structures as a substitute for steel tendons considering their many advantages such as the corrosion-resistance, light weight etc. However, the elastic behavior up to failure is likely to result in ductility problems. To overcome such problems, prestress concrete beams with partially bonded tendons have been developed and suggested. In this new system, the un-bonded part near the mid-span contributes to the improvement of ductility. And the bonded parts at both ends play a role as a safe anchorage. According to the previous research on the static behavior, the suggested method has demonstrated enough ductility and strength. However it is essential to verify the long-term safety for repetitive fatigue loads under service states. For this purpose, flexural fatigue loading tests were carried out in this research. This paper includes an experimental investigation on the static load-carrying capacities of the beams with or without fatigue tests. The results showed that the beams prestressed with partially bonded CFRP tendons possessed good fatigue capacity under the constant cyclic loads.

  • The development length equations of the GFRP rebars are suggested based on the pullout tests performed in this study. A total of 48 pullout and modified pullout tests were completed. Test variables included embedment length (L=10, 15, 20, and $30d_b$), vertical and horizontal installation of the rebars, height of the rebars (H=100 and 300 mm), and cover thickness $(C=2{\sim}5d_b)$. D13 GFRP rebars domestically developed were used in the experimental program. The average of the bond strength of all vertically installed GFRP rebars was 6.39 MPa with a 5% fractile of 4.63 MPa. A basic development length equation was derived that resulted in an equation equivalent to the one proposed in the ACI 440.1R-03. Careful reevaluation of the bond strength using the modified pullout test indicated that a modification of the design equation was necessary so that the basic development length increases by 11%. The top bar effect of the horizontally installed rebars as well as the effect of the cover thickness were determined and included in the set of suggested equations. Since the current equations were derived from testing rebars embedded in relatively low strength concrete $(f_{ck}=20{\sim}24MPa)$, they result in conservative development lengths when applied to bars embedded in higher strength concretes.

  • Composite slab with deckplate needs sufficient bond strength between deckplate and concrete to conduct composite behavior Composite slab can transfer the shear by either chemical adhesion interface interlock, or active friction. There are several way of mechanical shear connection in composite slab. that is embossments shear connector shape of deckplate etc. Effect of mechanical interaction is deped on shape of deckplate which is to prevent peeling between deckplate and concrete and an amount of shear connector. The behavior and strength of the connection between the decking and the concrete slab due to embossments and end anchorage may be estimated using the push-off tests described in this paper We proposed the equation of shear bond strength in the composite slab It will be use to design by basic data in composite slab.

  • This paper presents a hysteretic damage model for reinforced concrete (RC) joints that explicitly accounts for the bond-slip between the reinforcing bars and the surrounding concrete. A frame element whose displacement fields for the concrete and the reinforcing bars are different to permit slip is developed. From the fiber section concept, compatibility equations for concrete, rebar, and bond are defined. Modification of the hysteretic stress-strain curve of steel is conducted for partial unloading and reloading conditions. Local bond stress-slip relations for monotonic loads are updated at each slip reversal according to the damage factor. The numerical applications of the reinforcing bar embedded in the confined concrete block, the RC column anchored in the foundation, and the RC beam-column subassemblage validate the model accuracy and show how including the effects of bond-slip leads to a good assessment of the amount of energy dissipation during loading histories.

  • An energy balance procedure is developed to incorporate the effects of earthquake duration which involves the effect of cyclic loading and the corresponding cumulative plastic deformation. Particular emphasis is given to the flexural failure of non-seismically designed columns of reinforced concrete frames. For this, conceptual strength deterioration models for columns, governed by concrete, anchorage failure and longitudinal steel fracture due to low-cycle fatigue, are proposed. It is evident that the energy-based method has good agreement with the experimental data and is able to predict the failure mode.

  • In exterior beam-column joints, hooked bars are used for anchorage, but usage of high-strength and large-diameter bars increases, headed bar is preferred for solving steel congestion and difficulty in construction. To investigate the structural performance of headed bars, Six exterior beam-column joints were tested under cyclic loading. Tests parameter were the anchorage methods and concrete strength. The test results indicate that behavior of headed bar specimens shows similar performance with hooked bar specimens. All specimens failed by flexural failure of the beam. Headed bar specimens shows better performance in anchorage and joint shear. All specimens were satisfied the criteria of ACI374.1-05. Test results indicate that use of headed bar in exterior beam column joint is available.

  • In this paper, an analytical method which can describe the structural behavior of prestressed concrete (PSC) bridges reinforced with the unbonded external tendon is developed. Since the unbonded external tendon is directly installed to the deviators while maintaining a straight configuration, it has a different deformation field from that of concrete and accompanies the secondary effect caused by the change of the primary eccentricity between concrete and external tendon. In advance, the friction slip at the deviators is also taken into consideration on the basis of the force equilibrium between the friction force and the driving force. Through correlation studies between experimental data and analytical results, it is verified that the proposed numerical model can effectively predict the structural behavior of PSC beam bridges with comparative precision.

  • This study aims to suggest an appropriate flexural reinforcement technique by evaluating the reinforcement capacity of specimens that underwent flexural reinforcement according to the post-tension method with the anchoring position of an unbonded tension member on the conventional SC composite beam and the applied tension level as variables. For the experiment, up to a predetermined yield load was applied to each type of specimen and then, unbounded post-tensioning was additionally conducted to examine its reinforcement capacity. The analysis of the said experiment showed that the post-reinforced SC composite beam was characterized by significantly improved yield stress and initial stiffness, compared with the pre-reinforced one and the experimental measurements/theoretical values of maximum stress ranged from 0.95 to 1.13 following reinforcement. There was little or no change depending on the maximum stress and tension in the specimen (D160, Class 240) whose neutral axis and upper part had anchoring devices mounted prior to reinforcement. Rather, the ductility decreased with the increasing tension. On the contrary, in the case of the other specimen (Class D120) whose neutral axis had anchoring devices mounted after reinforcement, both the maximum stress and ductility increased with increasing tension, which indicates that the latter tension reinforcement was reasonably appropriate and effective for the neutral axis reinforcement.
