  • A detailed satellite panel thermal model composed of more than thousands nodes can not be directly integrated into a spacecraft thermal model due to its node size and the limitation of commercial satellite thermal analysis programs. For the integration of the panel into the satellite thermal model, a reduced thermal model having proper accuracy is required. A thermal model reduction method was developed and validated by using a geostationary satellite panel. The temperature differences of main components between the detailed and the reduced thermal model were less than $1^{\circ}C$ in steady state analysis. Also, the dynamic responses of the detailed and the reduced thermal model show very similar trends. Thus, the developed reduction method can be applicable to actual satellite thermal design and analysis with resonable accuracy and convenience.

  • A preliminary thermal analysis is performed for the optical payload system of a geostationary satellite. The optical payload considered in this paper is GOCI(Geostationary Ocean Color Imager) of COMS of Korea. The radiative and conductive thermal models are employed in order to predict thermal responses of the GOCI on the geostationary orbit. The results of this analysis are as follows: 1) the GOCI instrument thermal control is satisfactory to provide the temperatures for the GOCI performances, 2) the thermal control is defined and interfaces are validated, and 3) the entrance baffle temperature and shutter wheel motor gradient are found slightly out their specification, therefore further detailed analyses should be continued on these elements.

  • A conceptual thermal design is performed for the optical payload system of a geostationary satellite. The optical payload considered in this paper is GOCI(Geostationary Ocean Color Imager) of COMS of Korea. The radiative thermal control system is employed in order to expect a small thermal gradient in the telescope structure of GOCl. Two design margins are applied to the dedicated radiator dimensioning, and three kinds of configuration to the heater power sizing. A Monte-Carlo ray tracing method and a network analysis method are utilized to calculate radiative couplings and thermal responses respectively. At the level of conceptual design, sizing thresholds are presented for the radiator and heater on the purpose of determining the mass and power budget of the spacecraft.

  • As the water supply facilities are recently getting larger, the domestic waterworks become multi-regional water supply system. Large water supply facilities generally consist of the intake pumping station, water treatment plant and water supply/distribution facilities. Although the pumping stations and the pipeline systems are used to pump up water, it often happens pipeline damage and flooding accident by the water hammer. In this paper, the intake pumping station is guaranteed by both the computer simulation and the field test analysis. This study is contributed to the safe operation program for the pumping station in which results of the adjustment on the safety plan of the pumping station, the air valve and the valve closing time.

  • In the present paper, hovering performance analyses of proprotor and helicopter rotor blades were performed by using FLUENT software. As a proprotor, TRAM(Tilt Rotor Aeroacoustic Model) was selected and performance analysis was carried out with mesh adaptation for more elaborate solution. As a helicopter rotor blades, two bladed Caradonna and Tung's rotor and four-bladed BO-105 helicopter rotor blades were selected. In case of Caradonna and Tung's rotor, vortex trajectory was compared with experimental data to inspect the vortex convection capability of the present flow solver. For the final case, performance of BO-105 helicopter rotor blades was investigated and compared with experimental data. After performance analyses of proprotor and helicopter rotors, it was shown that the present solver showed reasonable vortex strength, wake geometry and thurst coefficient distributions. But power coefficient was somewhat overestimated about $10%{\sim}15%$ regard less of mesh adaptation.

  • A heat dissipation modeling method of EEE parts is developed for thermal design and analysis of an satellite electronic equipment. The power consumption measurement value of each functional breadboard is used for the heat dissipation modeling method. For the purpose of conduction heat transfer modeling of EEE parts, surface heat model using very thin ignorable thermal plates is developed instead of conventional lumped capacity nodes. The thermal plates are projected to the printed circuit board and can be modeled and modified easily by numerically preprocessing programs according to design changes. These modeling methods are applied to the thermal design and analysis of CTU and verified by thermal cycling and vacuum tests.

  • The geostationary satellite propulsion system has thermistors which can measure liquid propellant temperature at tanks, pipes and etc. In the satellite propulsion system with several tanks, the propellant in the tanks is moved by temperature change and this temperature pattern is constant. In this paper, the temperature change pattern of KOREASAT 1 propulsion system is compared and the prediction study of pressurant inflow using temperature change of geostationary satellite propulsion system is described.

  • In this paper a method for the design optimization for helicopter rotor blade in hover is studied Numerical analysis of aerodynamic characteristics of the flow around a rotor blade is analysed by usign panel method and CFD code based on Navier-Stokes equation. The result is validated by comparing with existing experimental result. Optimization methods RSM(Response Surface Method) and DOE(Design of Experiments) are applied in combination. The object functions are power, twist angle, taper ratio, and thrust. The optimized result showed a decrease of 17% of the power required.

  • This report is to provide a comparison of the hydrodynamic characteristics of a single strut SWATH(Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull) model and a tandem(twin) strut SWATH model. The hydrodynamic characteristics included are the resistance in calm water, 6 degree freedom of motion responses in stationary and with forward speeds, and wave loadings etc. All these quantities are measured in the towing tank and compared with the computational results. Based on the present study, the pros and cons for single and tandem strut SWATH designs are clarified and some design suggestions are made.
