Dynamic Frictional Behavior of Artificial Rough Rock Joints under Dynamic Loading (진동하중 하에서 거친 암석 절리면의 동력 마찰거동)

  • Recently, the frequency of occurring dynamic events such as earthquakes, explosives blasting and other types of vibration has been increasing. Besides, the chances of exposure for rock discontinuities to free faces get higher as the scale of rock mass structures become larger. For that reason, the frictional behavior of rock joints under dynamic conditions needs to be investigated. In this study, artificially fractured rock joint specimens were prepared in order to examine the dynamic frictional behavior of rough rock joint. Roughness of each specimen was characterized by measuring surface topography using a laser profilometer and a series of shaking table tests was carried out. For mated joints, the static friction angle back-calculated ken the yield acceleration was $2.7^{\circ}$ lower than the tilt angle on average. The averaged dynamic friction angle for unmated joints was $1.8^{\circ}$ lower than the tilt angle. Displacement patterns of sliding block were classified into 4 types and proved to be related to the first order asperity of rock joint. The tilt angle and the static friction angle for mated joints seem to be correlated to micro average inclination angle which represents the second order asperity. The tilt angle and the dynamic friction angle for unmated Joints, however, have no correlation with roughness parameters. Friction angles obtained by shaking table test were lower than those by direct shear test.

An Experimental Study on Shear Behavior of Steel Fiber-Reinforced Ultra High Performance Concrete Beams (강섬유 보강 초고성능 콘크리트 보의 전단 거동에 관한 실험 연구)

  • Experimental investigation on the structural behavior of steel fiber-reinforced ultra high performance concrete (UHPC) beams subjected to shear are presented. Six tests carried out on simply supported I-beams under concentrated loads are presented. The parameters varied were the volume fraction of the fibers (1.0, 1.5 and 2.0%) and shear span-effective depth ratio (2.5, 3.4). The test results indicated that ultimate shear strength increased with increasing fiber volume, and that ultimate shear strength decreased with increasing shear span-effective depth ratio. In addition, applicability of predictive equations for evaluating the ultimate shear strength of steel fiber-reinforced UHPC beams are estimated based on the test results. The comparison between computed values and the experimentally observed values are shown to validate the proposed theoretical equations. It is found that predictions by using AFGC and JSCE recommendations provide the most accurate estimates of shear strength of steel fiber-reinforced UHPC beams.

  • This paper evaluates seismic capacities of slab-column joints in flat plate system which has columns with various aspect ratio as experimental parameters. Continuous - bended shear reinforcements were applied for the prevention of punching shear failure in this study. The specimens of FIS1-05, FIS1-10, and FIS1-20 have the aspect ratio of 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 respectively. Static lateral force was applied to the specimens in a horizontal direction and vertical load was applied by constant gravity load ratio. The test results were evaluated by lateral displacement and strength of slab-column joint. Consequently, the lateral resisting capacity of rectangular type column such as FIS1-05, FIS1-20 is superior to the square type column such as FIS1-10.

Fatigue Strength of Composite Joint Structures Reinforced by Jagged Shaped Stainless Steel Z-pins (요철 형상의 스테인레스강 Z-핀으로 보강된 복합재 접합 구조물의 피로강도)

  • Recently the authors had proposed the z-pinning patch concept to simply manufacture z-pinned composite structures at industrial production site and manufactured composite single-lap shear joint specimens using the concept. Through static tensile test on the specimens they had obtained 54~68% improvement of the joint strength. As a sequential study of it, in this study, fatigue test has performed to measure an improvement of joint strength under cyclic loading. The z-pin's material is stainless steel and its surface was specially machined into zagged shapes and chemically corroded to increase the connection force with composite materials. Approximately 98~125% improvement of the joint strength under cyclic loading was obtained.

  • In this study, the behavior and safety factor of a nailed-soil excavation wall during earthquake is presented. The horizontal displacement, axial force, shear force, and moment of facing of a nailed-soil excavation wall subjected to static and seismic load are analyzed using time history analysis. The safety factor based on the strength reduction technique proposed by Dawson and Roth is used to calculate the safety factor of a nailed-soil excavation wall during earthquake. The safety factor by the proposed method is verified by comparing with those by other methods.

Development of Short-span Precast Concrete Panels for Railway Bridge (철도교용 단지간 프리캐스트 콘크리트패널의 개발)

  • This paper presents experimental static test results of the precast concrete panels developed for short-span concrete bridge deck form. Different from LB-DECK, concrete rib attached to the bottom surface of concrete panel, and Top-bar is not used at the top surface of concrete panel. Number of concrete ribs and cross-section details of concrete rib are determined from the analytical results of parametric study considering the span length and the thickness of concrete bridge decks. Shear rebars are installed at the top surface of concrete panel for composite action between precast concrete panel and cast-in-place concrete. In order to evaluate the safety and the serviceability of the developed short-span concrete panel subjected to design load, static load test is conducted. Three test panels with span length of 1.6m are fabricated, and during the load test displacements, strains and cracks of test panels are measured and final failure modes are investigated. Serviceability of the test panels is evaluated based on the results of displacements, cracking load, and crack width at the design load level. Safety is also evaluated based on the comparison of the ultimate strength and the factored design load of test panels. Based on the test results, it is confirmed the short-span precast concrete panel satisfies the serviceability and safety regulated in design codes. In addition, the range of span length of concrete bridge decks for the short-span concrete panel is discussed.

Effects of Thermal and Mechanical Fatigue Stress on Bond Strength in Bracket Base Configurations (열적, 기계적 피로응력이 교정용 브라켓의 결합강도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of mechanical and thermal fatigue stress on the shear, tensile and shear-tensile combined bond strengths(SBS, TBS, CBS) in various orthodontic brackets bonded to human premolars with chemically cured adhesive(Ortho-one, Bisco, USA). Five types of commercially available metal brackets with various bracket base configurations of Photoetched base(Tomy, Japan), Non-Etched Foil Mesh base(Dentaurum, Germany), Micro-Etched Foil Mesh base(Ortho Organizers, USA), Chessboard base(Daesung, Korea), and Integral base(3M Unitek, USA) were used. Samples were divided into 3 groups, the first group was acted with shear-tensile combined loads($45^{\circ}$) of 200g for 4 weeks(mechanical fatigue stress), the second group was subjected to the 5,000 thermocycles of 15 second dwell time each in $5^{\circ}C\;and\;55^{\circ}C$ baths(thermal fatigue stress), and the third group was the control. Bond strengths were measured at the crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min. The cross-section of bracket base/adhesive interface and the fracture surface were examined with the stereoscope and the scanning electron microscope. The resin remnant on bracket base surface was assessed by ART(Adhesive Remnant Index). The obtained results were summarized as follows, 1. In static bond strength, Photoetched base bracket showed the maximum bond strength and Integral base bracket showed the minimum bond strength(p<0.05). In all brackets, shear bond strength(SBS) was in the greatest value and shear-tensile combined strength(CBS) was in the least value(p<0.05). 2. After mechanical fatigue test, Photoetched base bracket showed the maximum bond strength and Integral base bracket showed the minimum bond strength(p<0.05).   • Existing shear wall system may cause ductility fallen to the structure which it is on because relatively weak concrete core would easy to be damaged. In this study, steel hysteresis dampers whose stiffness is higher than existing coupling beam and whose strength is easy to change depending on design load was used in coupling beam. The steel hysteresis damper was proposed for the shape connected in double in series, from this, several static test were conducted to verify structural performance of the damper. FEM analysis was also performed, then design equation were suggested.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the seismic behavior of precast concrete segmental bridge piers with shear resistance connecting structure. A model of precast concrete segmental bridge columns with shear resistance connecting structure was tested under a constant axial load and a cyclically reversed horizontal load. A computer program, RCAHEST (Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures was used. The proposed numerical method for the seismic behavior of precast concrete segmental bridge piers with shear resistance connecting structure is verified by comparison with reliable experimental results.

  • In this study, the impact problems are brought up and the formulation by isoparametric element is attempted for the purpose of analyzing the response characteristics of laminated plate receiving impact load based on the first-order shear deformation theory expanded from the Mindlin plate theory. The result of static analysis and dynamic analysis is drawn through the numerical analysis rectangular and circular plates of antisymmetric Angle-Ply laminated plate using the finite element method and the analysis on each displacement is compared.
