Correlation Between Transient Regime and Steady-State Regime on Creep Crack Growth Behavior of Grade 91 Steel (Grade 91 강의 크리프 균열성장 거동에 대한 천이영역과 정상상태영역의 상관 관계)

  • A correlation between the transient regime and steady state regime on the creep crack growth (CCG) for Grade 91 steel, which is used as the structural material for the Gen-IV reactor systems, was investigated. A series of CCG tests were performed using 1/2" CT specimens under a constant applied load and at a constant temperature of $600^{\circ}C$. The CCG rates for the transient and steady state regimes were obtained in terms of $C^*$ parameter. The transient CCG rate had a close correlation with the steady-state CCG rate, as the slope of the transient CCG data was very similar to that of the steady state data. The transient rate was slower by 5.6 times as compared to the steady state rate. It can be inferred that the steady state CCG rate, which is required for long-time tests, can be predicted from the transient CCG rate obtained from short-time tests.

  • The creep crack growth properties in 3.3NiCrMoV steel were investigated at 55$0^{\circ}C$ by using CT specimen under constant load and constant Ct condition that was held during crack growth of Imm distance. Ct lelied on load line displacement rate, C*usually increased with crack length though load is reduced in order to maintain constant Ct value as crack growth and appeared scatter band. At constant load and Ct region, crack growth slope was 0.900 and 0.844 each, on the other hand C* slope was 0.480. Fully coalesced area(FCA) ahead of crack tip increased as Ct increase to the critical value, and after that value FCA decreased. For the tertiary creep stage of crack growth test, the most of displacement was due to the steady state creep, except only small part due to the primary creep and other effects. Therefore, tests were mainly interrupted in the tertiary stage to obtain high value of Ct.

  • The creep crack growth properties in 3.5NiCrMoV steel were investigated at $550^{\circ}C$ by using CT specimen under constant $C_t$ condition that was held during crack growth of 1mm distance. $C_t$ lely on load line displacement rate and $C^*$ usually increase with crack length though load is reduced in order to maintain constant $C_t$ value as crack growth. Fully coalesced area(FCA) ahead of crack tip tend to increase as $C_t$ increase to the critical value, and after that value FCA decrease. For the tertiary creep stage of crack growth test, the most of displacement is due to the steady state creep, except only small part due to the primary creep and other effects.   • This paper deals with the variability analysis of short term creep rupture test data based on the previous creep rupture tests and the possibility of the creep life prediction. From creep tests performed by constant uniaxial stresses at 600, 650 and $700^{\circ}C$ elevated temperature, in order to investigate the variability of short-term creep rupture data, the creep curves were analyzed for normalized creep strain divided by initial strain. There are some variability in the creep rupture data. And, the difference between general creep curves and normalized creep curves were obtained. The effects of the creep rupture time (RT) and steady state creep rate (SSCR) on the Weibull distribution parameters were investigated. There were good relation between normal Weibull parameters and normalized Weibull parameters. Finally, the predicted creep life were compared with the Monkman-Grant model.

  • In this study, a small punch creep(SP-Creep) test using miniaturized specimen$(10{\times}10{\times}0.5mm)$ has been described for the development of the newly semi-destructive creep test method for high temperature structural components such as headers and tubes of boiler turbine casino and rotor and reactor vessel. The SP-Creep testing technique has been applied to 2.25Cr-1Mo(STBA24) steel used widely as boiler tube material and the creep test temperature are varied at $550^{\circ}C{\sim}600^{\circ}C$. The overall deformations of SP-Creep curves are definitely depended with applied load and creep test temperature and show the creep behaviors of three steps like conventional uniaxial creep curves. The steady state creep rate${\delta}_{ss}$ of SP-Creep curve for miniaturized specimen increases with increasing creep temperature, but the exponential value with creep loading is decreased. The activation energy$(Q_{spc})$ during SP-Creep deformation with various test temperatures shows 605.7kJ/mol that is g.eater than 467.4kJ/mol reported in uniaxial creep test. This may be caused by the difference of stress states during creep deformation In two creep test. But from the experimental results, e.g. SP-Creep curve behaviors, the steady state creep rate${\delta}_{ss}$ with creep temperature, and the exponential value(n) with creep loading, it can be summarized that the SP-Creep test may be a useful test method to evaluate the creep properties of the heat resisting material.

High Temperature Creep Rupture Characteristics of Ni-Based Alloy718 Jointed by Friction Welding (마찰용접된 니켈기 초내열합금 Alloy718의 고온 크리프 파단 특성)

  • The short-term high temperature creep rupture behavior of Ni-based Alloy718 steels jointed by friction welding wasinvestigated at the elevated temperatures of 550 to $700^{\circ}C$ under constant stress conditions. The creep rupture characteristics such as creep stress, rupture time, steady state creep rate, and initial strain were evaluated. Creep stress has a quantitative correlation between creep rupture time and steady state creep rate. The stress exponents (n, m) of the experimental data at 550, 600, 650 and $700^{\circ}C$ were derived as 26.1, -22.4, 22.5, -18.5, 17.4, -14.3 and 6.9, -8.1, respectively. The stress exponents decreased with increasing creep temperature. The creep life prediction was derived by the Larson-Miller parameter (LMP) method and the result equation obtained is as follows: T(logtr+20)=-0.00148${\sigma}^2$-3.089${\sigma}$+23232. Finally, the results were compared with those of the base metal for Alloy718.

The Effects of Hot Corrosion on the Creep Rupture Properties of Boiler Tube Material (보일러 管材料의 크리프破斷特性에 미치는 고온부식의 影響)

  • In order to investigate the effects of hot corrosion on the creep rupture properties and creep life of 304 stainless steel being used as tube materials of heavy oil fired boiler, the creep rupture tests were carried out at temperature 630.deg.C, 690.deg.C and 750.deg.C in static air for the specimens with or without coating of double layer corrosives according to the new hot corrosion test method simulating the situation commonly observed on superheater tubes of the actual boiler. The double layer corrosives are 85% V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ + 10% Na$_{2}$So$_{4}$ + 5% Fe$_{2}$O$_{3}$ as the inner layer corrosive being once melted at 900.deg. C and crushed to powder, and 10% V$_{2}$O$_{5}$ + 85% Na$_{2}$SO$_{4}$ +5% Fe$_{2}$O$_{3}$ as the outer layer corrosive. As results, in the specimen coated with the double layer corrosives, the rupture strength was extremely lowered and showed a large difference each other. The rupture ductility also lowered remarkably as a result of the brittle fracture mode due to hot corrosion. These results indicate that hot corrosion could essentially alter the creep fracture mechanism. From the metallographic observation, it was clarified that the rupture life of 304 stainless steel subjected to hot corrosion was chiefly determined by the behavior of the aggressive intergranular penetration of sulfides.des.

  • The creep behaviors of 1%Cr-Mo-V and 12%Cr steam turbine rotor steels under static or cyclic load were examined at 600 and $700^{\circ}C$. The relationship between these two kinds of phenomena was studied and the experimental results were summarized as follows: 1) It is confirmed that the cyclic creep strain dependent on time is more available for creep, behavior analysis according to frequency change than that dependent on number of cycles, and the static creep, the special case of cyclic creep with stress ratio of 1 can be also more effectively analyzed by time-dependence. 2) The steady cyclic creep rate vs. the steady static creep rate, increases according to the increase of stress ratio, and this phenomena may occur on occasion of the decrease of the internal stress. 3) The initial strain affects on all the creep properties of the transient region, the steady state region and the rupture time in cyclic creep as well as static creep, and the quantitative relationships among them exist.

  • The short-term high temperature creep rupture behavior of Ni-based Alloy718 steel was investigated at the elevated temperatures range of 550 to $700^{\circ}C$ under constant stress conditions. The creep rupture characteristics such as creep stress, rupture time, steady state creep rate, and initial strain were evaluated. The stress exponents (n, m) of the experimental data at 550, 600, 650 and $700^{\circ}C$ were derived as 33.5, -24.9, 26.1, -21.2, 16.8, -12.8 and 10, -8.2, respectively. The stress exponent decreased with increasing creep temperature. The creep lift prediction was derived by the Larson-Miller parameter (LMP) method and the resultant equation was obtained as follows: T($logt_r$+20)=-0.00252 ${\sigma}^2$-1.377${\sigma}$+-22718.

Creep Properties of Type 316LN Steel Welded by the SAW Method (SAW 법으로 용접된 Type 316LN 강의 크리프 성질)

  • The creep properties have been evaluated for type 316LN stainless steel welded by the SAW method. The creep tests were conducted with different stress levels for both the base and weld metals at $550^{\circ}C\;and\;600^{\circ}C$. The results of the creep-rupture time of the weld metal did not show a large difference when compared to those of the base one, though it exhibited a little lower value at $600^{\circ}C$. The creep rate of the weld metal was lower than that of the base one at the same stress and rupture-time conditions. The creep-rupture ductility of the weld metal is found to be decreased by about 60%, compared to the base one. This is due to the decreasing of tensile elongation and the increasing of the yield stress in the weld metals.
