  • The purpose of this study is to see relationship between middle school students' cellular phone consumption behavior and their mothers' consumer education. A survey was conducted with middle school students at nine middle schools in Gyeongnam who possessed a cellular phone and their mothers(1,080 in total). The results of this study are as follows: First, middle school students' cellular phone consumption behavior was relatively at the average level or higher: they were best at A/S and change and refund and were at the average level in collecting and using information for purchase followed by contract. This consumption behavior was associated with such variables as gender, academic performance, and monthly pocket money. Second, as for consumer education for middle school students' mothers in general, purchase education was most highly recognized, followed by citizenship education and value education. However, value education was relatively weak, which should be reinforced. Mothers' consumer education was associated with children's grade, academic performance and monthly pocket money. Third, since middle school students' desirable cellular phone consumption behavior was strongly associated with their mothers' consumer education, it is highly urgent to improve the quality of consumer education by mothers at home.

  • In this study, we analyzed the process of pre-service science teachers' designing and implementation of lessons in teaching practice from the perspective of CHAT. Five pre-service teachers attending the Department of Chemistry Education at the College of Education in Seoul participated in this study. We observed their teaching practice, collected documentary data, and conducted in-depth interviews. The data were analyzed using the constant comparative method based on grounded theory. The analyses of the results reveal that, due to the lack of authority to make decisions for lesson design, pre-service teachers faced difficulties and had direct conflict with teachers. In addition, it was difficult for them to obtain sufficient contextual information for lesson design even through subject orientation and classroom observation, which made it difficult for them to design lessons. When consecutive lessons were taken by several pre-service teachers, there were many problems such as poor continuity of lessons. Given limited authority to assess students, they conducted additional assessments. They showed a lack of professionalism when conducting assessments. The cause of this could be found in the curriculum of the College of Education. Some ways to provide better teaching practice based on the results are discussed.

  • Most of the current administrative names and locations for the names of places in the Nanjung diary have since been confirmed. However, a disagreement ensued among translators or researchers over Anpyeon-do (Baleum-do) islet recorded in Admiral Yi Sun-Shin's diary. Anpyeon-do was first recorded in the diary on October 11, 1597. It is credited to be the location where Yi Sun-shin and Chosun Naval Fleet stayed when sailing along the Southwestern coast of the Korean Peninsula after the battle of Myeongnyang. However, Anpyeon-do's exact geographical location has never been accurately confirmed. To accurately locate the islet, this study compared the direction and position of geographical locations observed in the Anpeon-do site match to actual geographical positions and directions. In addition, the direction and position of the geographical locations observed in the newly explored islands and mountains were evaluated with regard to how they correspond to the actual Anpeon-do. As a result, we concluded that the real location of Anpyeon-do recorded in the Nanjung diary is the Maebong mountain in Anjwa-do.

  • Awireless sensor network utilizes small sensors with a low cost and low power being deployed over a wide area. They monitor the surrounding environment and gather the associated information to transmit it to a base station via multi-hop transmission. Most of the research has mainly focused on static sensors that are located in a fixed position. Unlike a wireless sensor network based on static sensors, we can exploit drone-based technologies for more efficient wireless networks in terms of coverage and energy. In this paper, we introduce a transmission power model and a video encoding power model to design the network environment. We also explain a priority mapping scheme, and deploy drones oriented for network coverage and energy consumption. Through our simulations, this research shows coverage and energy improvements in adrone-based wireless sensor network with fewer sensors, compared to astatic sensor-based wireless sensor network. Concretely, coverage increases by 30% for thedrone-based wireless sensor network with the same number of sensors. Moreover, we save an average of 25% with respect to the total energy consumption of the network while maintaining the coverage required.

  • Objectives: Synchronous electroencephalogram (EEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has been used to explore sleep stage dependent functional brain networks. Despite a growing number of sleep studies using EEG-fMRI, few studies have conducted network analysis on whole night sleep due to difficulty in data acquisition, artifacts, and sleep management within the MRI scanner. Methods: In order to perform network analysis for whole night sleep, we proposed experimental procedures and data processing techniques for EEG-fMRI. We acquired 6-7 hours of EEG-fMRI data per participant and conducted signal processing to reduce artifacts in both EEG and fMRI. We then generated a functional brain atlas with 68 brain regions using independent component analysis of sleep fMRI data. Using this functional atlas, we constructed sleep level dependent functional brain networks. Results: When we evaluated functional connectivity distribution, sleep showed significantly reduced functional connectivity for the whole brain compared to that during wakefulness. REM sleep showed statistically different connectivity patterns compared to non-REM sleep in sleep-related subcortical brain circuits. Conclusion: This study suggests the feasibility of exploring functional brain networks using sleep EEG-fMRI for whole night sleep via appropriate experimental procedures and signal processing techniques for fMRI and EEG.
