  • Today's healthcare, intelligent robots, smart home systems, and car sharing are already innovating with cutting-edge information and communication technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things, the Internet of Intelligent Things, and Big data. It is deeply affecting our lives. In the factory, robots have been working for humans more than several decades (FA, OA), AI doctors are also working in hospitals (Dr. Watson), AI speakers (Giga Genie) and AI assistants (Siri, Bixby, Google Assistant) are working to improve Natural Language Process. Now, in order to understand AI, knowledge of mathematics becomes essential, not a choice. Thus, mathematicians have been given a role in explaining such mathematics that make these things possible behind AI. Therefore, the authors wrote a textbook 'Basic Mathematics for Artificial Intelligence' by arranging the mathematics concepts and tools needed to understand AI and machine learning in one or two semesters, and organized lectures for undergraduate and graduate students of various majors to explore careers in artificial intelligence. In this paper, we share our experience of conducting this class with the full contents in http://matrix.skku.ac.kr/math4ai/.

  • The role of instruments in scientific inquiry is very important. As science and technology develop, science inquiry instruments are also changing. IoT-based inquiry tools and output data, which are newly introduced in science inquiry class, can play a role in reaching the goal of scientific inquiry. The aim of this study is to find the appropriateness of digital inquiry instruments based on Kirschner and Kreijns (2004).T he students who participated in this study were 8 middle school students located in Seoul and they investigated the quality of classroom air. During the four months of the inquiry activity, we had participant observation and retrospective interviews. We recorded the data, analyzed it, and coded it in terms of educational affordance. As a result, there are four educational affordance of digital inquiry instruments. First, it stimulates students' interest and motivation to learn basic knowledge for data processing, because digital inquiry instruments deals with real-life data. Second, the digital inquiry instruments as a complex sensor made a big data so it serves as an affordance that leads to hypothetical hypotheses. Third, because of the features and limitations of the digital inquiry instruments itself, it shapes and limits the design of the science inquiry method. Fourth, since the data is measured in real time, the amount of data is enormous. So the digital inquiry instruments serves as an affordance of increasing the information processing competence to analyze data. In order for science inquiry activities based on digital inquiry tools to be activated, various policy and economic supports are needed, such as the science environment, the contents of the software, software training, and guided learning materials.

The educational value of cultural heritage sites is not limited to provide visitors with various information on historical facts and events related to the cultural heritage site, but to provide the public with a new recognition of the importance of the preservation of cultural heritage sites by understanding the site well. In order to utilize the educational value of the cultural heritage site, interpretation must be emphasized as an important element of cultural heritage sites management and much attention should be given on the development and practice of interpretation programs in each cultural heritage site. In order to develop an interpretation program of the site, a specific target audience must be defined first to find most resonable scope and direction of an interpretation program and then, site specific interpretation themes (or a theme) should be developed from the interpretive topic. According to these defined elements, an interpretation program(s) is established by using various interpretation methods and techniques in order to provide visitors with useful information and knowledge on the site efficiently. Interpretation methods and techniques are various as defined by various ways and most effective methods or techniques are employed as a specific interpretation program is presented most effectively. The evaluation processes in planing stage, during developing stage, and after completion of interpretation program development are important processes to find out any problems of planed interpretation program and to revise or update the interpretation program. Conclusively, the direction of cultural heritage sites management in Korea has focused on the conservation and restoration of cultural heritage sites to preserve the original conditions of cultural heritage sites so far. This direction on current practice on cultural heritage sites management should he changed to more active utilization of the sites and interpretation of the sites is a way to accomplish the this goal.
