  • Composite materials consists of two or more different material layers. The usefulness of clad metal rods forms the possibilities of combination of properties of different metals. Copper clad aluminum composite materials are being used for economic and structural purpose. In this study, composite billet consists of commercially pure copper and aluminum(A6061) and experimental conditions consist of the combinations of clad thickness, extrusion ratio, and semi-cone angle of die. In order to investigate the influence of these parameters on the hot direct extrudability of the copper clad aluminum composite material rods, the experimental study have been performed with various extrusion temperatures, extrusion ratios, semi-cone angles of die, and composition rate of Cu:Al.

  • Twin screw extruders are the heart of the polymer processing industry. The single most important mechanical element of a screw extruder is the screw. The proper design of the geometry of the excluder screw is of crucial importance to the proper functioning of the extruder. If material transport instabilities occur as a result of improper screw geometry, even the most sophisticated computerized control system cannot solve the problem. For this purpose, Tool shape design for the screw flights cutting in twin screw extruder.

  • Traditional forging of a hollow T-shaped part has been applied to forge a solid T-shaped product from a solid billet and then to machine the hollow in that. In a case, a hollow T-shaped part can be forged by backward-extruding from a solid billet. In this study, four types of forging were suggested for manufacture of hollow T-shaped parts. Forging simulations for each of these forging methods were carried out to investigate folding defect, metal flow pattern, effective strain, and forging loads. Experimental works were carried out to be compared with the simulation results. Here, the ratio of the thickness of the hollow tube to that of the flange was selected to investigate a forging defect like folding.

  • In general, the contact pressure to the die cannot be easily determined by using upper bound solution. Recently, the authors have proposed the method determining the contact pressure with the upper bound solution for the forming with the plane stain plastic deformation. In this paper, the method is applied to an axisymmetric forward extrusion process. The contact pressure to the die of the axisymmetric extrusion has been determined with the upper bound solution and compared with the result of rigid plastic FEM. The optimal semi-angles of die have been obtained minimizing the relative contact pressure to die fur the extrusion ratio.

  • In this paper, the formation of a corner cavity in the final stage of axisymmetric backward extrusion process is studied by means of upper bound analysis using kinematically admissible velocity. The quantitative relationships between corner cavity formation and process parameters are studied. And analytical results are compared with those of experiment to which plasticine is used. It is found that the analytical results agree well with experimental one. In addition, to restrict the formation of a corner cavity, driven container is applied to backward extrusion and the results are compared with those of FEM. The critical thickness of the bottom of the billet decreases with increase in reduction of area, and increases with decrease in friction. To prevent the formation of corner cavity, the concept of moving container was applied. Throughout this process, the occurrence of a corner cavity is delayed and forming limit area is enlarged.

  • This study presents development of a automatic design software for process and die design of hot extrusion of aluminium alloys through square dies. The design of extrusion dies is still an art rather than a science with increasing complexity of shape and thinness of section. Therefore, most of the die design is still dependent on personal judgement, intuition and experience. The objective of this study is to develop a software system which includes a design rule extracted from literatures and experts in the extrusion industry. The developed system is effectively used to design extrusion processes and dies with reduced lead time and trial extrusion.

  • It have been proceeded that research of analysis of extrusion process using porthole die. recently it is performed partly through the finite element method in the non steady state that design variables. The subject of this research is integrity improvement of speaker body which is being produced by porthole die extrusion in my country. Extrusion load of speaker case, and welding pressure of billet in the chamber are estimated by the means of rigid-plasticity finite element method. And then extrusion of trial was performed to estimate the validity of FE analysis.

  • The velocity distrubution at the exit of extrusion die depends on the width of bearing land very much. When uniform bearing land without flow guide is used, the material which is extended through the same die does not, deflect to the constant direction, but when the flow guide is equipped and then the volume compensation is done accurately, the material deflects to one constant direction. Therfore, the part of problem can be known exactly, and extrusion products of straight shape can be produced by the corrected bearing land width.

  • Twin screw extruders are the heart of the polymer processing industry. They are used at some stage in nearly all polymer processing operations. This paper is concerned with the basic elements of the extruder design. The proper design of the geometry of the extruder screw is of crucial importance to the proper functioning of the extruder. If the material transport instabilities occur as a result of improper screw geometry, even the most sophisticated computerized control system cannot solve the problem. For this purpose, a characteristic design on the screw flights shape of the closely intermeshing co-rotating twin screw extruder. This paper presents design parameters of double flighted screw and triple flighted screw elements, and characteristics of various screw channel area versus screw diameter ratio, K value, in the barrel of screw extruder.

  • Composite material consists of more than two materials and make various kinds of composite materials by combining different single materials. Copper clad aluminum composite material is composed of Al and Cu, and it has already been put to practical use in Europe because of its economic benefits. This paper presents the interface bonding according to the variation of extrusion ratio and semi-angle die by observing the interface between Cu and Al using metal microscope. By that result, we can predict the conditions of the interface bonding according to the extruding conditions.
