An experimental study on the bond strength of wall-slab joint in SC(steel plate-concrete) structure was performed. Six-full scale specimens were tested. Specimens were constructed with key variables, such as, development length, location of the bar and quantity of the shear bar. The experimental results, show that as the development length and quantity of the shear bar increase, the bond strength increases. As the bars is located on the inside the stud bolt, the bond performance was highly increased compared to the bars located out of plane of the stud bolts.
Fatigue failure modes of load-carrying cruciform weld joints are dependent on the characteristics of the fatigue crack initiation and propagation from the weld toe or the weld root. In this study, constant amplitude fatigue tests on load-carrying fillet welded specimen carried out, and fatigue strengths were evaluated. Also, an attempt is made to develop a new analytical model with more accuracy to predict the fatigue crack propagation life of fillet welded cruciform joints of SWS 490B steels containing lack of penetration defects. From the result of this study, fatigue crack growth characteristics of load-carrying fillet welded cruciform joints, containing lack of penetration defects are found to be affected by the weld geometry, stress range and microstructures of the weld zone.
Indentation fracture method and 4-point bending test are carried out to measure the residual stresses and the bending strength, and to investigate the mechanism of fracture mechanics in the bonded interface of ceramic and metal. The results obtained are as follows ; 1) The fracture patterns of bonded materials shows that the delamlnatlon fracture of Interfaces is stablely developed from the interfaces of ceramic/active metallic bonded materials at the specimen center, and the fracture is unstablely generated through a refraction on the middle ceramic. 2) Distribution of residual stresses is quantitatively investigated on the ceramic side of bonded materials. 3) It Is found that the residual stresses of interface vertical direction are concentrated on the bonded interface at the ceramic side.
This paper is focusing on the model to predict the ultimate shear strength on joints of composite system (RCS) with reinforced concrete columns and steel beams considering the transverse beam. It reviews the ratio of experimental shear strength to design strength calculated by existing desist equations which are proposed by Kanno, Wight, Noguchi and the rising of strength by the transverse beams. When the shear strength of joints is estimated, it is necessary to do research work for the stress transfer mechanism considering two concrete strut of inner and outer panel by web of the transverse beam. In order to confirm it requires further experimental and analytical study.
This study deals with spot weld ability of dissimilar aluminum alloy sheets in order to take advantage of its lightweight and strength. The paper also shows the relationship between weld elements(i.e. current, welding time and tip force) and weld quality on the resistance spot weld part of the same and dissimilar Al alloy. The conclusions are: (1) Because of excessive tip force, deep indentation remained at the Al 5182 side which is lower stiffness at the dissimilar Al alloy. (2) Weld quality (i.e. tensile shear strength) of dissimilar Al alloy is superior to that of the same Al 6061 alloy. (3) As long cycles, fatigue life of spot weld specimen on dissimilar Al alloy sheets was better than that of the same Al alloy.
S-N fatigue tests were conducted to investigate the fatigue strength of small diameter socket and butt welded joints made of carbon steels. Experimental parameters were pipe diameter, throat depth, shape of socket welds and welding procedure. Filler metals used in SMAW and GTAW procedure were E9016-G with diameter of 4.0 m and ER70S-G with diameter of 2.4 m. API 5L Gr.B pipes were adopted as a small diameter branch pipes. All socket fittings were machined from ASTM A105 carbon steel. Tensile strength was not affected by the welding procedure. Fatigue strength in socket weld joints increased with increasing pipe diameter, area of weld metal and weld leg length of pipe side.
It is necessary to investigate the welding performance and fracture resistance of welding part in structure. This study presented a most suitable condition of welding process for butt and lap joints by $CO_2$ arc welding which is widely used in the vehicle structure. Also it was conducted to tensile and fatigue test under various welding conditions. For butt and lap joints, the best conditions of welding voltage and current were 30V and 320A, respectively, in 3.2 and 4.5 mm thick steel plate. Under this condition it could be taken the highest tensile strength and fatigue strength, and a good bead appearance.
The microstructure and mechanical properties of the high-strength low-alloy steel weld metals with a variation of nickel content were investigated. The weld metals with a variation of nickel content from 2.3 to 3.3 wt% were prepared using Gas Metal Arc Welding process. The amount of acicular ferrite decreased with increasing nickel content; this is accompanied with an increase in the region of bainite and martensite, hence the hardness and tensile strengths were increased with the increase in nickel content, whereas the impact energy was deteriorated.
