Most of mechanical structures are combined of substructures such as beams and/or plates. There are few systems with unibody structures but are many systems with united body structures. Generally the dynamic a nalysis of whole structures is performed under alternation load. In the structure design, the analysis of each bolted joint is more important than others for zero severity. This paper presents the analysis method of contact stress distribution factor in the bolted joint with variable fastening torque on joints in the structure. At first, a static vibration test was performed to find out a nominal stress of bolt jointed plates from the relationship between natural frequency and nominal stress. Then a contact stress was computed at contact point between bolt and plate in the structure. It is believed that the proposed method has promisiong implications for safer design with index of contact stress distribution factor and has merits for cost-down and saving time at the beginning of vehicle development.

A subdomain-interface finite element method is suggested to solve a class of fully- coupled thermomechanical problems with contact boundaries. The penalty method is used for connecting subdomains that satisfy interface compatibility conditions. As a result, effective stiffness matrices are always positive definite, and computational efficiency can be improved to a considerable degree. Moreover, any complex-shaped domain can be divided into independently modeled subdomains without considering the conformity of meshes on interfaces. Using a computer code based on the present method, these advantageous features are shown through a set of numerical studies.

new domain/boundary decomposition method is suggested to perform efficient finite element analyses of contact problems. A penalty method is used for connecting an interface or contact interfaces with neighboring subdomains that satisfy continuity conditions. As a result, the derived effective stiffness matrices are always positive definite, and computational efficiency can be improved to a considerable degree. Moreover, any complex-shaped domain can be divided into independently modeled subdomains without considering the conformity of meshes along the interface. Using a computer code based on the present method, these advantageous features are confirmed through a set of numerical examples.

Subdomain-interface variational formulation is presented to solve a class of dynamic contact problems of composite structures. The penalty method is used for imposing inequality constraints on contact surfaces and for connecting finite element subdomains that satisfy interface compatibility conditions. As a result, any complex-shaped domain can be easily divided into independently modeled subdomains without considering the conformity of meshes on interfaces. Some advantageous features of the present method are shown through a set a numerical studies with a developed computer code.

Machine tool design concepts have evolved towards high efficiency, accurate precision. high structural integrity, and multi-functional systems. Like many other structures, machine tools are also composed of many parts. When these parts are assembled, many kinds of joints are used. In the finite element analysis of these assembled structures, most joints are commonly considered as rigid joints. But, to get the more accurate solution, we need to model these joints in a appropriate manner. In this study, rational dynamic modeling and analysis method for complex structures are studied with special attention to slide way joints. For modeling of slide way joints, a general modeling technique is used by influence coefficients method which is applied to the conversion of detailed finite element model to the equivalent reduced joint model. The theoretical part of this method is illustrated and the method is applied to the structure with slide way joint. In this method. the non-linearity of the contact surfaces is considered within a proper range and the boundary effect of the joint model can be eliminated. The proposed method was applied to finite element modal analysis of a clamp jointed cantilever beam and slide way joints of the vertical type lathe. The method can also be used to other kinds of joint modeling. The results of these analysis were compared with those of Yoshimura models and rigid joint models. which demonstrated the practical applicability of the proposed method.

A contactor coupled sequencing batch reactor composed of pre-anoxic contact zone and intermittently aerated zone was proposed and operated for nitrogen removal. Emphasis was placed on the fact that the contactor can be operated in a rapid reaction mode that results In biological uptake but incomplete metabolism of organic matter. Consequently, 61.2% of the sewage SCOD was adsorbed to activated sludge by 30-minute contact reaction. The specific uptake of organic matter was 22.3 mg SCOD/g MLVSS that enhanced the denitrification efficiency in the following denitrification stage. The removal efficiencies of the organic matter(SCOD) and the total nitrogen(T-N) were 86% and about 60% at the TCOD/TKN ratio as low as 6.0, respectively.

The shear behavior at the particle/surface interface such as rock joint can determine the mechanical behavior of whole structure. Therefore, a fundamental understanding of the mechanisms governing its behavior and accurately estimation of the interface strength is essential. In this paper, PFC, a numerical analysis program of discrete element method was used to investigate the effects of the surface roughness crushing on interface strength. The surface roughness was characterized by smooth, intermediate, and rough surface, respectively. Particle shape was classified into one ball model of circular shape and 3 ball model of triangular shape. The surface shape was modelled by wall model of non-crushing surface and ball model of crushing surface. The results showed that as the bonding strength of ball model decreases, lower interface strength is induced. After the surface roughness crushing was occurred, the interface strength tended to converge and higher bonding strength induced lower surface roughness crushing. Higher friction angle was induced in wall model and higher surface roughness induced the higher friction angle. From these findings, it is verified that the surface roughness and surface roughness crushing effect on the particle/surface interface shear behavior.
We investigated the structure of inductive coupler and its magnetic coupling to increase the transmission coefficient for power line communication. A Rogowski coil, which is an air-cored inductive coupler, and a magnetic cored coupler were fabricated to analyze the transmission coefficient for different coupler parameters. This paper proposes the impedance matching method using lumped elements and an impedance transformer to increase the transmission coefficient. In the experiment, the transmission coefficient of the proposed system was increased in both narrowband and broadband cases, and a trade-off between the transmission coefficient and the bandwidth was shown. This method will be useful for the further study of impedance matching with the load variation.
